wow, quickest reply ever

also, this topic is win

also also, this is what I thought Rolken and Cherry should look like long ago. I had a topic about it, but the urls for the images have since vanished, so I had to find new versions

Basically I'm working on my first game in C++, which is due this thursday

I'm making a 2 player space shooter. It's set up very much like pong (you only move up and down in a fixed X coordinate) only instead of trying to hit a ball you're trying to shoot the other player

so I don't really have anything special in mind. I already made 3 32 x 32 sprites (different concepts), but it looks too small on the playing field, so I wanted to change it to 64 x 64. Problem is, they look really shitty when I just resize them, and now I don't have any paint program to work with them

I don't need a masterpiece here, since all I really need is a nice clean 64 x 64 sprite, though if you want to go ahead and make one of them more detailed or just make a ship that looks a billion times cooler than mine then by all means please do so

I've attached the three sprite models below.

Note: I'm not a really big fan of ship1a, ship2a looks kinda cool for feeling of oldskoolness I guess, but it's too dark and hard to see against a pure black background, so it's the third ship I've been using really (the one that looks like some sort of airspeeder or something). Also note that player 2's ship will be the same as player 1's, just coated with red instead of blue

Any help would be appreciated. like I said though, all I really need is a clean 64 x64 bitmap of a space ship, whether it's one of mine or somehting you created I don't really care, I just need something that looks like a spaceship

either that, or someone get me MS PAINT!

I'm not sure how it happened, but MS paint no longer exists on my computer (as well as Minesweeper :( ), so I've been looking for a nice simple, yet effective paint program to download. I've already tried Gimp, paint.Net, and paint ultimate, and while they certainly have an array of features, I really just need something simple (as in I am dumb and don't want to deal with these complex programs)

My problem with these programs is that I'm finding that they make simple tasks (such as filling in a portion of a picture with a certain color, or even highlighting and dragging a part of a picture) incredibly annoying to perform. MS Paint was nice because when I wanted to fill in a black bordered square with the color blue, I could do that, or if I wanted to drag a portion of the picture to somewhere else, no problem.

So does anyone know of any simple paint programs that I could use...

or better yet, does someone know if I can re-obtain MS paint from somewhere?

EDIT: OOOOOOR, if someone wants to draw a really cool looking spaceship from a top down perspective (64 x 64) bitmap, that would be REALLY neato :D

I only own the first advance wars. I've played the second and third one a bit, but I'm not too familiar with them (especially the third)

regardless, this does look like fun, but count me out for now, I'm going to be way too busy this week

would love to get in a game sometime though

Where does the spring come from?

Sonic's recovery jump reminds me of game and watches in that it not only has ludicrous height recovery, but he pulls a spring out of seemingly nowhere, just like G&W pulls out a fire crew team with a trampoline to bounce him back onto the stage out of nowhere

oh, and I guess bouncing on a spring and bouncing on a trampoline are both bouncy (not that kind of bouncy CF :( )so they are connected in that sense too I guess

also, has no one else seriously considered / speculated about this yet? The 1 player adventure mode in melee had the player travel through a variety of levels and worlds from the different characters of the smash cast, and from the look of things, brawl is going to follow this trend.

If sonic's in the game now, then there should surely be a section / level for him, right? A remake of Green hill zone?

THAT would be amazing

So far, we've possibly seen four of his specials. The spin dash, some variant of his bounce ball attack (down+B, Donkey Kong as target), a spring jump as his recovery move?? (up+B), and of course super form.

I took his second special move (down + B) to be his down grab. But what do I know? I am just a Taco :(

Also, I was really hoping the elemental shields could of been used for his B moves

left + B or right + B = fire shield
down + B = water shield
up + B = electric shield

but oh well, maybe they will implement them somehow else in the game? as items perhaps?

Competition Central / Re: Your best and worst records.
« on: September 11, 2007, 03:01:59 pm »
Sure, what the hell. Of course all my good records are pretty much gone now, and I don't really remember alot of details about my other records, so I'll just do the memorable ones

In no special order

Best 5

1. Sadv Neo Green Hill 1 - Sonic (359) - HAHA I can get to the secret island, and you can't! lawlawlawlawlawl

2. Sadv Neo Green Hill 1 - Tails (0:29:80) - subbing 30 seconds with Tails was a bitch. A bitch I'll never forget

3. Sadv Secret Base 1 - Sonic (0:39:45) - A very good run alltogether. My one only complaint was near the end, where I felt the airdash could of been a little faster, though it probably wouldn't of made a difference to sub 39. After that's achieved though, I really don't see this time getting any lower than that

4. Sadv2 Leaf Forest 2 - Sonic (0:31:97) - What? I still have a Sonic record in advance 2? Amazing!

5. SPA Cosmic Casino - Sonic (0:24:27) - Because I pwn this level, bitch

Worst 5

1. S3&K Lava Reef 1 - Knux (1:33) - Honestly, I was never content with this time. You can even see in the video numerous mistakes. I was aiming for a time of sub 1:30, but when I spent another hour trying to record it without success, I called it a day and just uploaded this instead. It's not that bad, but I can't help but feel that a time of 1:28 can be achieved if no flaws were to be made

2. Sadv Ice Mountain 1 - Sonic (0:47:63) - Again, the time is good, but I wasn't content with it, as I knew for a fact that the beginning could be faster after I accidently pulled off an uber 1337 trick involving invincibilty power up and spikes. I'm sure sub 45 is possible with perfection, and if I were ever to pick up advance again, this would be one of the first records I would try to improve, no doubt

3. Sadv Secret Base 2 - Sonic (1:09:00) - This time, I really studied the hell out of this level, as it was the last record I submitted to the site. However, while the run went well and smooth as a fox, the boss didn't. Could easily cut a couple seconds off of this time, and who the hell knows, maybe with absolute perfection and dedication a 1:05 could be accomplished

4. SADX Ice Cap - Tails (1:31:85) - I'm really confused this time. I honestly had no idea what I was doing when I did this run (apart from the ramp jump of course), but I had no idea how to take the curves or any little trick to maintain the highest of speeds to achieve the fastest of times, so I am very surprised this is still a record. I say you're all just lazy

5. Any other time I have that used to be a record : /

Can someone tell me how you set the BPM for a song?

I was toying around with the Sonic X japanese song, trying to add steps for the light standard and heavy difficulties, but the BPM it was originally on is not right. I temporarily fixed this by speeding up the song in small increments, and it's fine for the most part for light, but it doesn't feel accurate for my standard step set, and I know I'm going to need complete accuracy of the BPM for the heavy steps

I remember reading a guide about it, but I can't find it now. I thought it was in the readme file, but I checked and it didn't mention anything about it, so if anyone could guide me in the right direction, that'd be great, as I'm rather new to the song editor in stepmania

Stepmania is the only thing I've really been into this entire summer (it's my summer work out)
so I shall have to give these files a go

EDIT: Ok, Mega Upload is being Mega gay right now, so I'll have to check some of these out later I guess : /

« on: June 24, 2007, 11:28:56 am »
I don't see why not.

After all, it is an Awards section

so perhaps there can be a small section on that page as well for any honors one has recieved in the past from previous top ten topics

and I say this mainly because I would have nothing else to show in my awards section, since I never really got into the emerald challenges :(

so?

there is a max ring count for most games, but I still see charts for those

I'm not really seeing a problem with min score here

I'm sorry, but no t-shirt, no participation. It's that simple

This is actually nice

most of the time when a new member comes out of the blue and completly dominates an entire game, we go "omg wtf we call bs" and it's not until much later that we learn they aren't full of bogus bananas

so yeah, proof is good

and not sure if I already posted this in this topic or not, but welcome to the site :)

Actaully, I'm looking forward to it

granted, it'll be weird having sonic run at about the same speed as mario and other characters when he could easily cake em, but it's definetly an interesting concept

The original track and field was awesome. Maybe this will be too :o
