Found an utterly hilarious fic by Wetflame. Link: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=11271&view=findpost&p=209966

This is seriously both the funniest AND the most epic piece of text I have ever read. :D A good explanation for why Eggman always outruns Sonic in S2 Death Egg.

Agreed. I've tired to end it with a lulz, but that didn't work.

It's impossible to do a good spindash with 1 key only. WHICH IS WHY DEBUG MODE CONTROLS SUCK.

You know I've asked this because of despair on SB2 -- and if other levels are even harder... Good lord, I might just as well stop RAing this game for now, and switch to something different.

« on: October 28, 2008, 04:41:08 pm »
Right now I have 5 levels to worry about: Star Light 1, Star Light 3, Scrap Brain 1, Scrap Brain 2, Scrap Brain 3.

Questions:
1) Which one is the easiest?
2) Which one (if any) includes the least amount of oddball tricks and glitches, because I refues to look at SkyLights's videos just yet?

Probably I wasn't there back then, the "check TSC every day, be uneasy if it's down" routine is fairly recent. :P

I'm a huge TSC addict (though I kinda suck for now) so when TSC is down, it means BAD NEWS for me!

If you know the randomness like I do now, it's EXTREMELY easy to do, even without pause abuse.

Competition Central / Re: GHZ1 Rings -- DONE
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:08:16 am »
Yeah, I've already somewhat figured out how the randomness works: the pattern stays the same as long as you only touch Robotnik for one frame on each hit.
Super easy now. The only thing is that level select gives different patterns if you select Final Zone at different points of time, but you can easily reload and try again.

TSC was down most of this day. The rest of the sites opened up fine, just this one was down.

GHZ1 is pure hell to ring attack. I suggest you to look at SkyLights' video, he does have a pretty short route that leaves you like 7-8 minutes to repeat the trick again and again. I had to use 6 of them.

And Final Zone is not too hard as long you don't speedrun. You just stand at the right, and avoid the orbs, jumping occasionaly, then see if Robotnik is there to hit. Just don't try to rush to Robotnik if he is at the left.

Have no idea how to speedrun through Final Zone without getting hit and dying.

MIKE!
I know that's thread necromancy, but whatever.
I'm calling you out for not warning me that Star Light 2, as opposed to 1 and 3 and Scrap Brain, was so EASY as compared to Green Hill 1!!!

Psychologically damaged! :D
(The other Star Lights/Scrap Brains ARE hard though. Have tried them but no real dice...)

Competition Central / Re: GHZ1 Rings -- DONE

1:13 I can't do because I can't figure out Final Zone's randomness, and staying in the center when the crushers move is way too risky.
I'll soon try Star Light 2, practice runs seem easy enough, just need to do it in one piece without falling onto a spikeball... (or ease up the route)

Competition Central / Re: Hmm..

Sonic 1 RAing, from Green Hill 2 to Labyrinth 3 inclusively. The rest of the RAs are a lot harder.

Looks like you'll be a good addition to our crew...

Maybe, once I'll start sucking less. :P

you're stick-to-it-ive-ness is impressive...

That's not stick-to-it-ive-ness, that's "OK, my skills have improved somewhat, can I do it now?"

Plus, it's "your" and not "you're". Not that I am a huge grammar nazi, but I really couldn't resist pointing that out. :P

Competition Central / GHZ1 Rings -- DONE
« on: October 25, 2008, 10:22:33 am »
225 rings. Finally achieved that trick on the 30-ring cluster. Thank you SkyLights, for a shorter route through the rest of the level which gave me more time and more tries to do the trick.

Was ridiculously close to Time Over, one reason being the antivirus update messing up a really good try at that cluster by popping up RIGHT when I was ready to tap the R key to get mysef aligned properly. Still got it though.

I know most of you probably won't care, since it's a very easy trick compared to what you do, but it was very hard for me and I simply HAD to post about this.

Wait, what?
I understand 1:14 by fixing the stupider mistakes in the beginning and the boss battle, but 1:11?
How do you get to the glitching spot that fast? I've tried to spindash-fly instead of slowly flying up to the glitch spot, but failed every time.
Now it's my turn to wonder "WTF" and try to shave off these last seconds... Now my house will have to hear "Oh sh*t" "Stop Record" and "Record" A LOT. :P

And it's just too sad that you can't do it with Sonic or Knuckles... Well, maybe Knux could superglide *exactly* so he goes up when he needs so, but not Sonic. :(

About the glitch:
Well, I actually not only found a glitch, but know EXACTLY what happens. (leftover bragging)
If you fly along the very top row of the loop, at some point it ejects you UP, regardless whether a wall is already located there. Needless to say, you get stuck in a wall, and with a little luck, you can zip. Shame there's something that stops you dead on your tracks for no reason if you don't do it JUST right.

EDIT: Oh, there's a video. Niiiiiiiiice.
Sigh. No matter how creative I get when trying to outtrick people, when it comes to raw, brutal skill, I'm always PWNED. Good job, SkyLights!

If not for the glitch, I'd never be able to do so, cause I suck at speedruns. :D
Oh god, Youtube's uploading is slooooow...

I plan to wait for a little while before uploading the GIZ, to give the glitch-lovers a challenge. But if you really want it, I'm in process of making a voice-dubbed YouTube video, and you could look at it.

It's just too tempting to look at a giz when it's right on the forum, as opposed to Youtube, though my channel is easy to find, but it's not directly "here", therefore it's not as tempting to spoil yourself. Trust me, I know this from a few games.

If after a while nobody beats me, I'll upload the GIZ anyway though. :P
EDIT: Uploading this one right now. I have the same nickname on Youtube, so it'll be really easy to find.

Didn't trim the beginning because of laziness, and didn't fix the retarded voicing right after the glitch because of laziness again.

Sorry, I was too lazy to record this as a GIZ (since this is somewhat annoying) and it's improvable by a couple of seconds because I suck, but anyway.

Sandopolis 1 as Tails is now 1:20 due to a HUGE timesaver.

YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
What I messed up is the first "sand flow" (I forgot that I had to press jump :O) and the boss battle because I was too wimpy to try and nail that "last hit" on the boss after a glitch that was somewhat difficult for me.

YAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Thankfully I always savestate the "sweet moment of victory" so I have a screenshot.
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/5509/proofwb6.png

But for the GIZ, and therefore unfakable proof, you'll have to wait until I'll be able to pull it off again.

EDIT: GIZed, and also redone the first section, making it 1:16.

Gaming and Grazing / Re: Top 20 most awful games you played
« on: October 12, 2008, 04:14:49 am »
Mostly I pick good games. The bad ones bore me enough to forget, but there's one in particular that sticks out.

Jumper 3.
Right, I hear you "how DARE you rant on Jumper!" Well, I'm not! Jumper 1 and 2 were awesome, and amazingly fun to play, though damn hard.

J3 sucks. The weird visual style, the half-hearted music, and god-awful controls kill all the awesome ideas it had.

That's it, I don't play bad games, or at least don't remember them!

OK, question 2: after I get GHZ 1 (which will take quite some time) do I have hope at Star Light or shall I try the easier levels in Sonic 2?

I have done GHZ 2 and 3, all of Marble, all of Spring Yard, and all of Labyrinth.
I know how to do GHZ 1 but can't pull it off as of yet.
Question is: should I try to do the trick on GHZ 1 or is it better to just forget about it for a while and go try Star Light?
