Well i think there needs to be an FAQ link or similar on the front page.

Also Stardust (as epic as it is) and Chaos Angel are getting a bit old. Perhaps you could make a skin from a new gen sonic so that it appeals to the newer generation of gamers?
3D games don't work for skins (unless you know of a way to get the textures?) and DS emulation is a joke, so that's not really an option.

Basically, a newbie looks in the chatroom (or on the forum) and sees language like GM-Re. Now, the question is, what the hell does this mean?
I guess I'm a newbie. :(

My interface is a bit more shenanigany midraid :(

One of my RL friends and Im sure lots of other people have the UI mod that gives you 3 small central action bars, but Ive steered clear of it so far 'cause i just know I will be misclicking >_>

Also man I wish I could get by with two actionbars. I had like 5 last time I played :(

and that was with modifier macros to assign multiple abilities to the same buttons, lol.

Also druids are OP  They're supposedly working on new forms to counter the tauren uglies.

New DLC has been coming up every two weeks. I don't see any reason to wait for this one in particular, though I'm in no rush personally.

But working out exploits before putting charts up is probably a good idea anyway.

I hope your guild app didn't require a screen of your interface. Hoo boy.

But hey maybe it's good enough for expendable dps 8)

The second week of flyby's Sonic league ended on Monday, and after working for a few days to get the new league system up and running, the results are now in. The third week of competition ends at midnight after Sunday as usual, so get your stats in. It's not too late to jump in; check the official topic for details.

superjupi has provided us a new full set of Sonic CD maps, with a funky interface to boot. Yizzao!

Sega has settled into a pattern of one Sonic Unleashed 360 DLC every two weeks, with Holoska levels coming last week; presumably we'll be getting more content for another zone around Thursday next week. The PS3 has apparently has also gotten a (late) start in, receiving the first DLC for Chun-Nan. Charts will be coming after the league stuff is fixed up (provided somebody makes me a list).

And now he submits 255 rings on GHZ1, an obviously wrong stat.

Typoing stats is no crime, but you are expected to at least TRY to put in stats that are correct. If you are going from memory, then stop doing so. :|

« on: April 14, 2009, 02:43:20 pm »
I don't agree with that you got banned, but the general idea is that if you're hitting enter on something that's only one or two words long, you should give more thought to whether it's actually worth saying, because otherwise you just fill up the chat and make it harder for people to follow conversations.

flyby's League / Re: flyby's league

From Week 3 on, all submissions are going to be through the league subsite, not through flyby. They will be hidden until the deadline.

edit: if you're barred from normal submissions, you can still send them as usual.

"I have trouble with these times" is not sufficient justification for a call for proof.

Those aren't the exact times, but they are reasonable typoes so that suffices. I don't know why you insisted you had checked the original stats when you hadn't, but you're cleared.

You *might* just want to put Media above Submissions - I came to this site primarily for the maps and videos, but having "Videos" under both "Submissions" and "Media" threw me a bit at first.  Also, "Competition Rules" really should go under "Submissions" as well.
The emphasis of the site is on competition, and that's what I want to encourage. My understanding is that most people who are coming for the media are finding the maps or videos through Google, so the menu ordering isn't as much of a concern for them.

I agree with the rules ordering though, so I moved it.

I might be a little tool oldbie here for this thread, but I only joined in December, so... idk.
I am not necessarily looking for new posters so much as recollections of what it was like to be new. The interface hasn't changed that much over the years (though perhaps the community has).

Alright, here's flyby's results in image form for people using terrible browsers that inexplicably can't handle XHTML. I'll also edit it into the OP.

flyby's league thing ends its first week tomorrow. Get submissions in if you have them ok.

I am going to be limiting people with rankings citations to replying to topics in LD only, who should have the label "Accused". The level of BSery in general recently is a bit disappointing. Maintain your dignity; play legit. There's no pride in faking stats.

Also, I'm still soliciting impressions from new TSC members.

Largely I'm making this post to get that gaudy yellow stuff off the front page <_<

They're the same person. He did the same thing a month or two ago, and again after this event. Gerbil has logs of him logging in and out between the same accounts to pull his shenanigans, while he insisted that someone had taken his IP over the internet. He needed attention, that's all.

It's good. Everyone here's really nice. My only problem was that at first the user interface really confused me because I didn't know you could click on the headings on the left side of the page. For example I would try clicking on things under the forums heading trying to get to the forums before I realized you could click on the heading itself. I hope that made sense.
Hmm, OK. Is this a problem for anyone else?

I'm not sure that I can think of a solution other than simply putting another link under the header to the same thing. I thought the flashing and pointer icon would be a sufficient indicator.

Aw did my epic post get deleted or something? :(
Yes, because it would have derailed the topic.

News and Updates / Re: New Spagonia DLC
« on: March 26, 2009, 08:55:59 pm »
That's like saying it's unfair to gamegear charts because I don't have one and would need to buy it, along with the games.
No, it's like saying that after you buy a gamegear game you have to keep paying $3 every two weeks in order to stay competitive.

The judgment call on that front is based on what the community wants, not some divine law. I haven't seen anyone wanting DLC to be integrated, and quite a few people have indicated that they prefer it separated.

Well, you could simply remove these charts then.
Or move them around, yeah. It's on The List.

News and Updates / Re: New Spagonia DLC
« on: March 26, 2009, 07:08:35 pm »
If they make a DLC for each area, that's another ~$30 and ~5GB of data required to compete in the game, and only if you own a 360. It'd ruin competing in the game for too many people.

Sonic06 DLC was added in a poor way and I don't see a reason to repeat that mistake.

I haven't been a new member here for awhile. What's it like? What's interesting or confusing or annoying or gratifying about the site and the community in general? Inquiring minds would like to know. I need a view from the outside, as they say. Brutal honesty is appreciated.

52
Yeah, that's what I was referencing.

Also note that you barely have any competition anyway. :(

But hey, it works, I suppose.

Competition Central / Re: Sonic and the Black Knight competition
« on: March 26, 2009, 01:39:15 pm »
I think you'll have too many charts that way. It'll take a miracle for the game to crack 30 players; nobody's going to bother submitting for four characters on the same course.
Yeah, I'm feeling vindicated right now.

But Paraxade pointed out that some of the other characters don't require the insane grinding that Sonic does to get good times (for their characters), so it's not a total loss.

54
This is not going to happen. Splitting the charts is not "win-win". Charts that have been around since 03 are not going to be altered without significant reason to do so, and broadly separating the whole game into SC and non-SC, with all kinds of tiny rules as to what counts as "SC enough" for every level, is annoying and undesirable for almost all competitors.

We already tried something like this on a small scale with freestyle, and nobody wanted it.

News and Updates / New Spagonia DLC
« on: March 26, 2009, 11:50:28 am »
Spagonia got the same treatment as Chun-Nan today: 250 MSP, 4 day, 2 night, rinse, lather, repeat. PS3 owners are still left in the cold. If I had to venture a guess, it's looking like we're going to be getting DLC for every zone across the next four months or so.

Spagonia and Chun-Nan DLC will be added to TSC probably once it's back on our normal server with the usual levers, which I think will be within the next couple days. It won't contribute to the game's overall rankings though, just its own leadership.

FKE is putting up some videos of the new DLC again, below Chun-Nan on the playlist.

I also recommend winding down with some old school Sonic. It's good for the soul after a long hard TA session.

I was going to write a review of sorts, but Dreadknux of TSS had almost exactly the same reaction that I did, so just check out his instead if you want details. Key paragraph:

Quote
Overall, you’ll be hard pushed to come back to Black Knight once you’ve nobbled the story. And even while you’re playing it you’ll feel no sense of actually playing a Sonic game. The experience is tiring and frustrating one moment, empty and soulless the next. This is the first time I’ve played a Sonic game and not felt any kind of depth or satisfaction. Even Sonic 06 felt like a full package, as bad as that game was. Sonic and the Black Knight seems like a demo disk, devoid of any real gameplay gratification at all. Older Sonic fans are likely to feel the same way, while ‘younger kids’ - this game’s target audience - are more prone to break their controllers by throwing them at a wall.

The game isn't necessarily broken so much as just completely pointless. Almost every level that I played was a long narrow corridor with a different backdrop and maybe a few occasional hazards in the endless sea of enemies. The bosses are similarly cut-and-paste. The only people who would enjoy this game are those who are invested in Sonic as a character and don't particularly care what gameplay he happens to be thrust into. I quit after about an hour and a half, when I didn't feel like dealing with the boss right before the first credits.

If you really must play this game, definitely rent it before you buy it. I got it from Gamefly (a-la Netflix) myself.

TSC was down Saturday because Gerbil's hard drive is on the fritz after overheating. We're on a different server until things get worked out. Since you can see this, your DNS has updated! Hooray!

Sonic and the Black Knight rankings have been put up by SDM (I think). A lot of levels are missing because of the bug in the game's record saving; there's nothing we can do about that.

Also, after having played SBK myself, if you're thinking about buying it, I strongly advise you to check out the SBK reactions topic first.

It'd be a bit odd, but there is the option of putting rings, times, and score all in the same category. There's nothing in the way the site works to prevent it.

Or it could just be put in a separate game.
