There is a thing, VBlink, that can act as a link cable between two instances of VBA. However, it is really designed for LAN. The data transfer between GBAs is too intense to play at anything like a reasonable speed online.

Its for LAN. I dont know, but according to what I have read. GBA Online has never been done sucessfully.

And honestly, kaillera does works pretty good. I mean I dont see the problem, and most got over the 56k phase. Like for SonicOlympics, there will be a ping restriction which is 110ms.

If you are part of the SEGA Master System Recorded Time Attacks, (Recorded with Gens+) you can use 56k. and then send it to one of the organizers/judges. The file will be fairly small and easy to upload, and it is not possible to cheat because Gens+ does not record in a published video format whatsoever. It has its own format that is only playable thru the emulator.

More intructions on that coming soon.

heh

I remember I tried playing sonic 2 online with a friend

I had to close everything else because it would lag like crazy. Even when Gens was the only thing running, the game still lagged online (just a bit, it was much more playable, but still, a very small lag)

Well Ninty remember that Sonic 2 multiplayer was laggy in general. Like, it lagged whenever you got speed shoes, invincibility, or lost rings D:
<Tails> also "GET BLUE SPHERES" on a black-and-white TV remains the best special stage of all time

Yeah that is pretty low, 56k cant even handle it, unless ur in the same city as the server (New York).

Oh I don't think I've ever even tried kaillera with a ping of over 50ms. But it still sucks. Game compatibility, keylag, generic silliness...

Never used it with Gens though.

Just thought I'd point something out...

"Live Time Attack" can be easily done with no latency whatsoever if the player hosts their own kaillera server for the game.
The player will get a ping time of approximately zero. Everyone else's ping is irrelevant as they aren't playing. All that matters is that no-one drops packets and causes the game to lag.

We need a team of ten right? One for each event?

...

What are the events? I noticed three... Live TA, Recorded TA, and Live Duel. *shrug*

Hmm

from the looks of it, it's just the genesis games (and sega master system?). Basically, just the originals, so count me out. Though I will give my full support in cheering for the home team!

also looky, a whole run through sonic 2 as an event! I smell a speedrun :O

One of the events is listed as "Sonic 2 - Green Hill Zone".  That's presumably a misprint.

nono

Our community is up for it

But I myself will not be participating. Others in the community will because they happen to specialize in the genesis sonic games, where as I specialize solely on the sonic advance series (and seeing as how there is not one single round of sonic advance in the tournament) I guess I'm not needed :D

But we are still part of this. I will just be watching and cheering, not participating. That's all.

same goes for soniham and RPGnutter up there.

Yeah this marathon thing should be intersting. Especially Sonic 2, I find it to be the hardest of the genesis games.

I whole-heartedly agree

for I have a confession to make >_>

<_<

I have never beaten sonic 1 or sonic 2 on the genesis. NEVER

sonic 1, I've never really tried that much. I'm sure I could...but sonic 2, I've just never been able to beat it. I can easily get all 7 chaos emeralds and manage my way through the zones, and the metal sonic is a cinch, but it's eggman that I'm having trouble with.

Pretty sad...eh? :/

I've never beaten Death Egg Zone in Sonic 2 either. I mean, I have, but it was through Level Select. I gather can gather all 7 Emeralds. tons of lives and a few continues and lose it all to Robotnik in Death Egg Zone. It's quite frustrating. :( Sonic 1 is a cinch though. :o

^^No need. there's a Death Egg video already up. (Well, will be soon.)

Just do that...without the recklessness.
