Sonic 06 DLC
« on: November 18, 2008, 07:55:12 pm »
Thought I'd make a thread regarding the DLC in Sonic 06. The DLC for the game includes Very Hard missions, Team Attack Amigo, and Boss Attack for each character. The issue is that TAA and BA are only available on the 360 version, leaving anyone with a PS3 unable to submit any stats in those categories. There's precedence for the removal of the charts in S3DB, I think; either way something should be done about it, as it's ~70 points. I'd rather see the offending charts moved to a Freestyle-like division, but removal is also an option if that can't be done. :(

There are places in SA where you can't stand a chance without relevant console/version...

if you want to be top, you have to own both... same thing should stand here...

in short: buy the other system, if you don't have it...

shorter: Quitchabithin!

Yes, but in SA1, you can play the levels on both versions.  Boss Attack and Team Attack Amigo are 2 modes that aren't even PLAYABLE on the PS3 version.  Only the 360 version.

There's a difference between being unable to get near a record on one version and not even being able to play a level on one version.

Something about special stages IIRC.

Clearly the only two solutions are a) bitch to Sega to add the DLC to PS3, or b) remove them! About 3 people actually compete in them anyway!

Excuse my sarcasm, literature essays agitate me easily. And I'm currently working on one.

Less in some cases actually, Boss Attack Shadow has 2 competitors in score/rings. >___>

Not having actually played sonic06...

I'm with the crowd that's for removing charts that aren't possible on both versions. The only other solution is to have different charts for each version a la Score Hero. (This could apply to other games; S3D GeneDrive/Saturn, SA1/SA2 DC/GC, Heroes PS2/GC/XBox, etc.) And that'd involve major charthax.
<Tails> also "GET BLUE SPHERES" on a black-and-white TV remains the best special stage of all time

They'll probably be tracked separately, as every single level is completely different as well.

Why would anyone buy a PS3 anyway, unless they wanted a bluray player?

Also on that note, yay 360 finally dropping to 200$

so what's this about 599USD?

MGS4.  LBP.  Disgaea 3.  Nuff said.

Umm... LBP is as gimicky as Wii, imnsho...

And who plays MGS?  I was pretty sure the horrible press it's gotten over the years would be enough to keep people from buying it...

Then again, people did elect Bush twice...

Also, since D3 by itself might be good enough to buy the system for, I'll shell out the thought that (since I refuse to buy a system for a single game... it takes at least 2 games of good quality, and at least 4 games that are "damn I have to buy these" and unique...

Like I bought my DC for PSO (must/good), Plasma Sword (good), SA (must), SA2 (must), JGR/JSR (must/good)...  and I bought it at this point

I bought my Saturn for SF3 (must... it ended up being good, but not enough to warrent purchase), NiGHTS (must/good), Radient (must/good), Sonic R (must)

but PS3 has, so far, one title that I have to have (and it is probably good, to boot), and it's about to not be exclusive...

The fact that something is gimmicky doesn't mean it's not fun.  I also think you're using "gimmicky" as a substitute for "different" - but hey, I'm sure you enjoy a million different mediocre FPS games, right?  Currently, my Wii and LBP puts a bigger smile on my face than any other games - if I'm in the mood for depth and gritty realism and whatnot there are billions of options for that too, and you don't have to be exclusively one or the other.

And who plays MGS?  I was pretty sure the horrible press it's gotten over the years would be enough to keep people from buying it...

Then again, people did elect Bush twice...
"Horrible press"?  I must be reading something different to you.  Maybe it doesn't get the gushing praise and 11/10s that a GTA4 or whatever gets (which I'm convinced has as much to do with the PR train as anything), but it's done fine.  In any case I'm a long-time fan of the series which influences my purchasing decision - which I think members of a Sonic gaming community might understand - and I'm capable of making a decision for myself rather than allowing reviews or fanboyitis to dictate it for me.  MGS as a series is flawed (what isn't?), but I love it all the same.

Also should Godwin's Law be extended to include having elected Bush?

Doug I agree with that last statement.

Also, as Yahtzee said regarding...Crysis I think:

It's not perfect, but who or what is? Besides Columbo.

Gimmicky is the fact that the solidity of the game isn't based on the game itself, but rather something it offers that is unique to it.  Too many (early, mostly) Wii games existed ONLY to make use of the new hardware.

Also, since you obviously don't read my posts, I despise all FPS games...

About the horrible press I mentioned, I was referring mostly to MSG2/SE/3.  The first three games (MG, MG2, MGS) were pretty good, MGS was a very good 3D adaptation to the 2D games prior, however starting with the dilemma of MGS2, it's not gotten much good press...  I take the press not to be the mainstream press, as such, the people that I would agree with become the press I consider press...

Some scores that were notable of the last decade that made me agree with this particular source:
MGS:SE - SP (Sub Par) (6)
GTA3/4/SA/VC - 4/4/6/5    (Compare to GTA/GTA2 at 7/8)
H1/2/3 - 5/6/2
FFX-2 - 7
GH1/2/A/3 - 8/9/4/6

Bangai-O (DC) - 10
Disgaea - 10
Makai Kingdom - 9
Xenosaga - 8/7/8
Amplitude/Frequency - 10/9`

There are a few differences in opinion here, but this is about how I see these games...

Also, if you start equating Bush with Hitler, I suppose I'll retract my former statement...  That'll be good enough....
