Sonic 1 / iPod
« on: December 19, 2007, 08:41:01 am »
Sonic 1 was released for the iPod yesterday (5G and Classic, not Touch). Apparently it's a fairly good port, unlike S1GBA, though I've noticed that some reviews have listed weird issues:

- It occasionally loads the wrong music.
- Control scheme is awful.
- It's 62.9 MB.

Yeah. 62.9 MB. S1/MD was 512k, S1/GBA was 4MB. The only reason I can think of as to why S1/iPod is so huge is because they use AAC or MP3 audio instead of emulating a YM2612.

Also, apparently S1/iPod lets you use a custom soundtrack. A first for Sega. :o

Maybe I'm jaded here, but I've paid for Sonic 1 enough times not to want to shell out another $4.99 (I believe that's the cost) for this (even though I don't have an iPod).  I'm all for the nostalgia, but Sonic 1 on mobile phones, in all the collections, remade (badly) for portables, on VC and on an iPod is definitely getting to the whorish stage IMO.
This topic has now been officially won by me.  Never mind, you might do better next time!

This is, of course, forgoing the simple-as-hell CD Check Disabling in Sonic CD PC?
* DarkspinesThorn huggles his Japanese soundtrack CD-R.

If we allow this in competiton we'd hafta allow S1/2 for cellphones as well... that'd be a bit on the lol side.
<RPGnutter> Well I think your reasoning was dumb, so you get sassed
<RPGnutter> Thats how it works

I'll count all the remakes for reference:

-Original

-Sonic Compilation
-Sonic Jam
-Tiger Game.com
-Sonic Mega Collection
-Sonic Mega Collection Plus
-Sonic Gems Collection
-Sonic Genesis
-XBLA
-Virtual Console
-ROM
-Mobile Phone
-Ipod

Yeah... <.<

Now, it seems that SEGA is just shoving the game down everybody's throats. We know the game exists. It seems that if you ask any random person, they would have played the game on some system; and i'm pretty sure that they would of had like, 3 copies of the game lieing around somewhere.

It's not in Gems, and the ROM is not a remake.

Sonic 1 is on Gems, but you only get to play it in five minute intervals.

Also allow me to express my wonder and amazement at your avatar.

Wondrous, isn't it?

Guess where it's from.

Also I stand corrected.
