Listen carefully to 0:04-0:06 in Mephiles's theme, it's the melody reused throughout the entire song, it's straight out of Death Egg!!

Those 2 seconds there are the only part thats even vaguely similar to Death Egg.

And I had to use my imagination to get them to sound similar =[

no I'm convinced now, it's obviously from Death Egg and the song is derived from it.

That explains why Mephiles song sounds the way it does, with the oldschool sound effects. When I first heard it it sounded like a remix to a Genesis tune and now I know that it is.

Now if I can only figure out where I heard Dreams of an Absolution before.

But anyway, I don't see how you made the association between Dreams of an Absolution and Green Hill while still telling me that Mephiles theme sounds not even remotely like Death Egg. But then again one uses the melody from the original (Dreams) while the other just uses the instrument (Mephiles) and one sound clip.

My ears are telling me that the bonus level in SA2/B sounds a lot like the first level in the first Sonic game!  Did anyone ever notice that?
