That's one of about two places in the entire game where you have that many enemies in your face at once (the other one I'm thinking of is also in Starlight), and those aren't even really badniks.

And while the traffic cone and road barrier are certainly urban, that proves nothing because it still just flat-out looks nothing like the screenshots. Really, it's just the same sort of generic city setting that was used in Shadow.

Why do they keep talking about bring back the "classic 2D platform gameplay that started it all" when they already fucking did that with Advance years and years ago?

Either way looks kinda neat and hopefully it'll be as awesome as Rush but I'm not getting a PSP anyway so I won't be able to play it. :(

I'd prefer something actually new that would take the franchise in a new (good and creative) direction over desperately trying to cling to old ideas that should just be left alone, myself. :(

Um.

What level in Sonic 1 is supposed to be a city? Spring Yard? Scrap Brain? Star Light? None of those looked anything like the city in that shot.

And I want to mirror what eggFL said about the idea of this being a remake of Sonic 1 being just fan speculation. Seriously, when did Yuji Naka say, explicitly, "This game will be a remake of Sonic 1"? As far as I remember, he said it was going to be a reinvention of the franchise, not of that one specific game. People just took what he said the wrong way and it's spiralled from there.

You are such a ho.

Congrats being the first to sub-1-minute it. :D

Yeah, damn man, that's impressive.

Good to see competition's starting to heat up on this game from people other than me. :o (lol)

This is kind of a quirk with the physics unique to this game. You need to get momentum from jumping down off the ceilings of loops, jumping at the bottom of (preferably steep) slopes, and falling large distances onto slopes. This is the one way you're ever going to go really fast in this game, much more so than just boosting or running down hills (as works in the Genesis games). In fact, it's very easy to achieve a speed at which boosting makes no difference at all.

There is also another quirk that means that even though you will often slow down in midair, once you hit the ground again you'll zoom off at your previous pace (or close to it). You've seen this yourself in Zone X1, where you come fairly slowly off the last loop, but once you land you're running quickly again.

Those are some fucked glitches.

Hey, I've done it on Sonic Heroes (see sig).  Anything is possible.

edit: and how do you get the extra air in levels?  For example, in your Water Palace 1 Blaze vid, before you get to the first water slide, how do you jump so high?

Jumping high isn't hard, you just boost and jump off a slope. That physics quirk has been around since the Mega Drive games.

I think you might mean how do I hover so far. Just tap R instead of holding it.

Nice. =O

Another thing for me to do when I start playing again. <_<

Good luck getting the record though rofl.

Having more shit doesn't make the shit less shit...I'm not going to want to play crap levels more if there are more of them. Quite the opposite, in fact. And you think guns are a worthy addition...? I've heard absolutely nothing but how they're completely worthless.

And I really just don't think there's as much personality coming from the characters in-game as you think there is. Give me some examples.

Knuckles is said to be jealous of Sonic's way of life, and that he wants to be like him too. This is probably why he left the island and also why he follows Sonic around. Sonic and Knuckles have been friends for a while now so there's no reason they can't be on the same team. Knuckles used to be glued to Angel Island, but there are a lot of possible explanations as to why he doesn't have to guard the master emerald anymore.

Tell me where in the games it is apparent that "Knuckles is jealous of Sonic's way of life". If it's shown in SAdv2/3 or Sonic Battle I'll concede, since those are other games I haven't played. If not, and you just pulled that from a manual description, you just pretty much proved my point for me.

Stuff

Um, no.

A critically bad game-engine and uninspired level design are not "minor flaws in the 3D games".

People don't complain because new characters get introduced. People complain because new characters get introduced arbitrarily and excessively and they're bad characters.

I'd like to hear some justification for how "The gameplay in the new games...really give the classics a run for their money".

Adventure---> may have enriched the world and characters somewhat but only to the shallowest extent Sega thought they could get away with. We still don't really know much about any of the characters' personalities beyond what we're told in the manuals (which isn't much): Sonic's a free spirit, Tails tries to escape Sonic's shadow, Knuckles is hot-headed and gullible, Amy <3 Sonic etc. Those are some shallow fucking characters right there.

I want to give special mention to Knuckles because he's had no reason to be in any game after SA2 , and that was hella sketchy. Why's he there in Heroes, for example? He left the island he's spent his entire life guarding to go on some "adventure", that doesn't really concern him at all, with Sonic (whom he isn't supposed to approve of particularly)? Sure you could make arguments for his coming along, but Sega made no goddamn effort to give even just a lame excuse. His appearance in Rush was even worse and made me want to cry (as much as I adore the game otherwise).

Sega have no fucking clue how to write characters. Gamma was good, Blaze was decent, but that's it. Maybe Shadow got something decent out of his game but I haven't played it.

And I can't believe you thought SBW was totally serious with the whole Robotnik/Eggman thing.:/

There's also the fact that you started ranting on here even though nobody in this thread was really complaining in any serious fashion about the 3D games.

First thing you need to know: you shouldn't be spending any time as Blaze period. Get the timing down for how long your fireball takes to charge and how long he takes to stop flashing (being invulnerable) after taking a hit, and also where on the screen he comes back from after this. Then just time it so that you release the fireball at the earliest possible time you can hit him, and make sure you're in right front of his face when you do. Nega should never get an attack in, ever.

As for Sonic...I can't offer much help there. It's very unlikely, if not maybe impossible, for him not to do the time-consuming missile attack at least once (maybe twice). Just try to figure out how to consistently make use of the orbiting laser orbs so that you can hit him with both, one after the other, consistently (I haven't mastered this yet). The direct plasma-blob attack is easy and you should be able to hit him with that straight away every time.

I don't know if this is exactly what you wanted but that's all the help I have to offer. :[ Really, unlike this other bosses, this one is much more based on skill than how lucky you get with the attack patterns.

We might not be thinking of the same thing, mind. What I'm thinking of is skipping the slow moving lights lift near the end (immediately after the second rolling ball) by doing an Axel Tornado up from the spring and hitting an enemy to give you the last bit of height needed to get onto the upper level (since the Axel Tornado alone doesn't give you quite enough height). Is that what you're thinking of? I can't think of any other way to skip that since as far as I know jumping off the slope itself is all blocked off (as all these long steep slopes are).

Well I did find two things Blaze can do, actually, one of which is easy and the other of which is based on a random enemy placement.

I just hate the level too much to want to try putting them into practice. XD It's so goddamn long and frustrating.

And it's not like either of these helps with Sonic. >:[

Man there's no way I could be any higher than 5. Unless the fact that I fairly well dominated a largely uncontested (probably long-lasting too) championship in just a couple of weeks would make up for my only competing in one game.

GJ GS93. :O

I still have no fucking idea what you're doing on NC2. :/

I've found that as well, but I also cannot figure it out.

I think I know what triggers it though. It's if you come off the weird sideways gravity grills in such a way that you're still "sideways" as you go through that room, so you don't trigger the fight with the robots. I've done it twice as Blaze (possibly helped by her hovering ability) and that's it.

Judging by your Sonic time it looks like you might've figured it out already, though.

Yeah, a trick like that would completely kill any competition, but it'd be nigh-on impossible to enforce against it.

So no Sonic Rush SS rankings either way, I guess. :(

Some bastard squirrel took some of the little chocolate eggs meant for our Easter Egg hunt this morning.

And one of the large ones, which was somewhat baffling.
