Used to be really into MMOs and I had a character in World of Warcraft called Cydonia named after the Muse song 'Knights of Cydonia'. My guild shortened it to Cyd (pronounced Sid) and I stuck with it ever since as a base for naming characters and accounts since just Cyd is pretty much always taken (i.e. Cydney, Cydonia, Cydders). When I started making content on youtube and twitch I wanted to go with something catchy and a bit silly, so I named myself CriticalCyd as a pun on the term Critical Hit. Guess it woulda worked better if I ran Pokemon games hehe

Looks interesting, could be fun. Not sure why they chose to show off the same mechanic multiple times though. Yeah we get it, you can throw stuff at other stuff.

For Sonic Heroes I'm willing to do either Team Sonic's story or Team Chaotix's story and for Sonic Colours I can offer an Egg Shuttle run.

Estimates (with plenty room for goofs)
Team Sonic - 1:20:00
Team Chaotix - 1:05:00
Egg Shuttle - 1:10:00

Edit: Oh and the only thing I can think of donation incentive wise is a bad sing-a-long during the credits for Sonic Heroes and perhaps a bid war between the 2 teams.

I very much approve of these changes. Rewarding proof rather than demanding it, the ability to filter by versions, all of it. There's a lot of potentional here :) kudos!

That's all I have to say surprisingly haha

News and Updates / Re: New rules regarding emulators
« on: April 10, 2014, 04:45:04 am »
I'm very much on the side of the case by case rules for emulators. Since this rule is primarily for preventing accidental BS because of emulation failure I feel the proof requirement rule for any and all emulators is way too widespread, inconveniencing the use of emulators that have been proven to be accurate. As such I feel that the rule should only target emulators that have been proven to be inaccurate and since we'd only be targetting a few specific emulators I'd say an outright ban of those emulators is a much more realistic possibility and in my opinion the better option.

As for grandfathering old stats, well I'm usually the type of person that thinks "Don't punish people for breaking future rules", but in this case it concerns possibly unobtainable stats. As a result I think at least the records or the top x stats on charts that may be dealing with an inaccurate emulator should be investigated. Of course if there's an issue with the stat there should be no big consequences for the person who got it, but the stat itself should be removed.

Guess I'll post my 2 cents as well.

While I'm all for proofcalling and stuff when there's suspected BS, I feel like proofcalling someone just because they play on emulators feels a bit unfair. If the emulator was previously proven to be inaccurate, sure! If recording video or inputs doesn't really take a toll on the performance and takes but a few clicks to set up like TimpZ said, sure why not, I can get on board with that! But making it an across the board thing just completely disregarding any and all specifics, that just doesn't seem well thought out to me.

Which brings me to my main problem with this: why wasn't this discussed publicly in a big way beforehand? It seems to me that a big rule change like this would really benefit from lots of voices from many different perspectives. Get the people who run on emulators in there and the people who actively run the games it affects even if they don't run on emulator like myself. It's highly unlikely the admins are gonna know all specifics, nor do I expect them to, so let the community itself take care of that I'd say.

So yeah that's my thoughts on all this. And yeah I know emulating is piracy and all that, but let's be real here, money is tight for a lot of people and not everyone can or wants to spend a lot of income on their hobby, which is why emulation isn't just straight up banned to begin with. Sure the competition is serious and real and I love it, but at the end of the day it's still just videogames ;)

General Sonic / Re: Is there preference for consoles for speedrunning?
« on: April 02, 2014, 03:57:35 am »
For team battles on PS2, you gain control later than in the other versions.  Also, the time stop effect from Team Dark's TB doesn't last as long.

This is the first time I've heard about those, thanks :)

I remember hearing the Team Blast glitch doesn't work on the PC version (I certainly haven't been able to get it to work on it, although it does work on my Gamecube version). Since that glitch was only recently re-allowed, I don't know how much benefit it really provides. The overall benefit of the Ultra Glide probably outweighs the Team Blast glitch, especially since you can't use the Team Blast glitch in the Team Dark charts.

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot this was a thing :)

Team Blast glitch does work on PC, but the way to activate it is significantly harder (and probably useless in speedrunning because of it) since on PC you can't press 2 buttons at the same time. I think the only way to do Team Blast Glitch on PC is to fly into the air, switch to power mid-air so you automatically switch first thing you land and then try to time your thundershoot at the exact same time as the switch.

The Ultra Glide makes the loss of the easy TBG method worth it for sure though. Also free camera is a thing that has actually turned out to be quite useful yeah.

For Sonic Heroes the only REALLY big difference between the versions is the PC Exclusive glitch known as Ultra Glide which affects some, but not all levels for the majority of the teams and makes PC the overall fastest version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6IsREkjJAA

That said the PS2 version does indeed suffer from low framerate and slow loading times, although the latter doesn't matter. The Gamecube and Xbox versions are pretty similar and are considered the best versions in both performance and game feel, but again not the fastest. PC, aside from the exclusive glitch, handles a bit differently than the console versions and can be a pain to get running properly, because it's a pretty old PC port.

So what should you do? Well that's up to you really ;)

Rules Revisions / Re: Sonic Colours Egg Shuttle IL times

I agree with this honestly. Video proof would indeed be required to make sure, but I think it should be allowed.

General Sonic / Re: Favorite Music Track/Theme in Sonic games
« on: January 16, 2014, 05:54:27 am »
I wouldn't even know what to pick tbh. I'm just gonna keep it to my 3 fav sonic games:

Sonic Heroes - Egg Fleet & Casino Park
Sonic Colours - Aquarium Park Act 1 & Planet Wisp Act 1
Sonic Adventure 2 - Pyramid Cave & Prison Lane

I kept it to stage music for now since all the theme songs were making the list kinda long :P

Sup!

Some of you have probably seen me hanging around for a while and I thought I should probably introduce myself properly and shiz. My real name's Jeroen, but since most people seem to have trouble pronouncing that let's just go with Cyd for the sake of convenience ;)

I'm mostly a single-segment kind of guy and have been running all teams for Sonic Heroes & as of recently Egg Shuttle for Sonic Colours. I did however want to see how my IL times would hold up, so here I am :) pleasure to meet y'all I'd say!
