I suggest you to download the video with Knuckles. I didn't try yet to do that even with Knuckles, but it seems possible to do that with Sonic. Later I'll try to do it with both.

As far as I know it's not.  The major shortcut I use is that first big ramp; if you hit that running, jump at the very top and hold right you can reach the bit at the higher level.  You have to be going majorly fast though.

Muahahaha. Pwnt.

Pfft.  Menus, HUDS, other graphics, tricks available, texturing, music and all that crap has nothing to do with the engine.  A 3D game engine's primary function is to position models, simulate collisions and such: low-level calculations on the map/model matrices.  Values such as rates of acceleration/deceleration, gravity, friction, camera positioning and so on can be changed without the engine itself being changed.  An FPS game can be changed into a 3rd-person adventure can be changed into a flight sim without any change to the fundamental game mechanics.  If you're going to use terms like "engine", please use them properly.

How the game plays should have nothing to do with the engine, given that it provides all the required functionality for the higher level calls.  In theory, if game designers agreed on common interfacing, game engines could easily be interchangeable without the average player really being able to tell (sadly a lot of game programming isn't done modularly; the Source engine of HL2 is a good example of one that is though).

I've not played the game, but just because it plays like another game doesn't mean it uses its engine, and just because it doesn't play like another game doesn't mean it doesn't use that game's engine.

In summary, this is a pointless argument.

[Edit: note the irony between this post and my custom title :) ]

The codec used is DivX 5.3.1.  I've tried to upload it here, but it's always failed :S

Oh and mike, this has to be one of my favourite levels ever - none of the tricks are that hard and it's nice and fast so long as you know the route :)

I agree, for the timespan it was pretty good, and if it was marketed as a spin-off I wouldn't have been unhappy.  But it wasn't; it was supposed to be the next biggie in the series, and it just didn't feel like a Sonic game.

What is your favorite sonic game for sega genesis? The first,sonic2 sonic3+knucles?The possiblites go on. Mine is sonic2. Sence i was a kid i loved this game and still do today. So whats yours?

The possibilities go on?  To 3D Blast and (at a push) Spinball?  Or Mean Bean Machine?  Not enough choice here tbh, though I'd pick Sonic 2 (Sonic 2'd make it onto my all-time Top-10 list, probably number 3 behind Metal Gear Solid and Baldur's Gate 2).

MegaMan 6 is a good game and so is Labyrinth... :( SADX is terrible in my eyes and all other games in which I'm no good anymore in and that frustrate the living hell out of me (put every Sonic game here at TSC on the list... >.>)

If we're going for Sonic games it has to be Sonic 3D.  I was really looking forward to X-treme and it was just a pisspoor replacement.

1. Hide while RPG murders everyone.
2. Stab him in the back and take control!

Although he's already killed me, so that might not work so well.

Actually, I have a far more evil plan that that >:) I'll write an Operating System and make sure everyone uses it by getting all the mainstream developers write apps for it, and by marketing the hell out of it.  I'll have all the packages use bloated, encryted formats that other packages struggle to read, and change standards so they fit my buggy rubbish instead of well-coded goodness.  I'll then release new versions with more and more bugs until it drives everyone so nuts they all kill themselves.

Oh, wait . . .

I've played some horribly bad games, but the one that immediately springs to mind is Driver 3 - I looked forward to it muchly because I really liked the original two, but the third-person controls and camera are shocking, and the driving isn't half as fun as it was before.  The cutscenes are the sex though.

This is probably lack of sleep though >_>

Pfft, more like RPG in a hooded cloak. With a double-edged Battleaxe. And a grenade launcher.

You could build the grenade launcher into the handle of the axe.  That would seriously rock.

I take it the "RPG" in your name is for "Rocket Propelled Grenade" then? ;)

And speedrunning Spyro 2 for the GBA whenever I can be arsed, I'm writing a document on it too so look out for that some time in the future :O.

Other than Sonic I've been playing a little CS:Source although it's frustrating me a little because I'm not playing enough to get back on our match team (strangely, TAing feels much less like skiving off work than CS does . . .).

Hey, welcome aboard and enjoy your time here :)

I briefly checked your site: it's okay, but freewebs is slow as an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping.  If possible you want to shift it off there.  Also: did you get permission to host those spritesheets?  Some rippers get tetchy if you nick their sheets.

I don't have access to it right now - is that speedrun done with Sonic alone, or with Sonic and Tails together?

Sonic and Tails together.

I'm guessing for the >100% one that a different route is used that the TAS guy didn't know about.  You can't really take these as "perfect" anyway, how can you guarantee they are?

Sorry it's on Putfile, I was having issues uploading to here.  Not the greatest quality; I can post a better one if you want (reason it's rubbish was because I compressed it muchly to try and get it up here; it's 632Kb)
