General Sonic / Advance just got more broken
« on: September 16, 2014, 04:58:11 pm »
If you haven't seen it yet, then you should, the path swapping glitch is now useful for Sonic too. http://youtu.be/D0dnq_vHvHs

EDIT: I should probably say what it is. Angle island act 1 in 42 seconds, which smashes the old time.

yeah it seems not eberythings fixed, smilarly to what chimaru posted, the stats of a user's page is also not working properly http://www.soniccenter.org/members/sb737

Competition Central / Re: Sonic 1/2/3&K SS(single segment) charts?
« on: August 31, 2014, 02:01:34 pm »
People have brought this up a little, perhaps this should be discussed again, single segment runs are the popular way to speed run now, and although speedrun.com now does that, perhaps some sort of integration with them like gamepro suggested, or just simply adding the chart to the game, it wouldn't take much, it would take a bit of planningn when it comes to real time runs (perhaps they shouldn't be tracked, only adding in game time could be only allowed?), just throwing ideas around, thorn himself said he has nothing against it, maybe it's not what TSC isn't about, but I think it would be a neat addition to the site. Any other opinions on the matter would be good and valued :)

I've waited a little while before posting in this topic to see what others have said, but as this topics gone kinda dead, I'll post my thoughts now.

TSC is a site that is loved by many users, but many have moved on due to outside lives or wanting to do other things. The way the sonic franchise has gone in general doesn't help either. The lack of an admin posting here saying what could be done shows that point, they just don't have time to fulfil whatever they say, and that's perfectly understandable.

I think the idea of at least one new active admin, could help.. But then what would they do, that the current admins don't? Thorn is capable of handling site issues like BS calls and other forum issues, they can't really do anything to liven up the site unless other people are willing to help, rather than 90% of people ignoring the idea, mainly because they have more important obligations to do. I definitely feel that an active leader is needed on the site, one that can make the final call, I've had plenty of chart requests ignored by the community, so they just get swept under the carpet. Having someone there to at least say, "unless this gets a lot more interest, it's not gonna happen".

A site programmer: Gerbilsoft doesn't have time to work on the site now, that's understandable, we need a new programmer for sure, and yet there are plenty of little things that anyone with a relatively basic knowledge of HTML could do, I would personally volunteer to programme the site, I can't do big things like major site changes, but little amendments and updates that are missing, to at least make the site look updated.

Twitter: The way everything's going now social networking is the way forward. Codegirl was great when irc was popular around here, however now IRC is full of OPs and members, whom I've never even seen say anything in the channel, and a lot of TSC members are a heck of a lot more active on twitter than on IRC and indeed the sonic Center site itself. So I think the TSC tweeting new records (and possibly new videos), as well as forum posts would be much more useful. You also wouldn't have to be online to get updates, with IRC, you need to be online. So I think moving what's possible to social networking is important.

Whilst TSC may seem dead, there is definitely a community out there, the marathon was proof of that. And we got about 400 followers in the build up and throughout that marathon. I think keeping the stream page link up is a good idea.

Revisiting the coding idea, when the whole site improvement idea was brought to the table, and that it could be done, and was likely to happen, that seemed to spark new life into the site.

Skype: Whilst I am aware that there are TSC related Skype groups out there, the chill groups and the race night group (and other smaller ones), I feel that an official one, that is made public to anyone to join (people could post in a topic on the forum requesting being added). That could help the community, as perhaps more popular members in the community are already in these Skype groups, newer members in the community, could get a chance to talk to others in the community in a popular messaging service. I know there have been TSC Skype groups in the past that have gone inactive, however adding the opportunity to join on the forums may help, I can't say for sure, but if we don't try we will never find out.

I think that's all I can think of, I'm starting to get bored of TSC, but I would love to help the site as much as possible, but for things to work, everyone has to help, forums are an obsoleted thing compared to social media etc. so TSC needs to move and adapt to this.

I'd really appreciate an admin posting in this topic, to at least let the community know what's going to happen from here.

Competition Central / Re: Sonic and Knuckles Lava Reef 1 Score
« on: August 24, 2014, 08:37:42 am »
I haven't actually done it yet myself, not have I properly looked into it yet, however I know that there are the red pawning badniks that come out of the wall, I was thinking there was a place where you could roll into them, go left, then go back to them to make them respawn, then go roll into them, and keep doing that, as long as you don't jump, it preserves your combo, so you can get a higher and higher score, the place I was thinking was after the first elevator btw, no idea if that's the place it works though.

Competition Central / Sonic Generations Mods Competition
« on: August 21, 2014, 08:29:57 am »
Right now it seems that speed running Generations mods is fairly popular. TSC doesn't have charts for them because unofficial charts aren't tracked, they were, but as they keep changing with updates it was too much of a mess to do. But we can have a bit of competition on the forum. So if people post their best times for any Sonic Generations mods they've played I'll add them to the chart in this thread. Feel free to post a video if you made one, however having a video isn't necessary. Only times will be tracked as well btw. And for now only IL times, however if there's sufficient interest I'll add single segment charts of a full game (e.g unleashed project any%).

Mystic Cave Act 1
1: SB737 - 00:26.08

Emerald Coast Act 1
1: SB737 - 01:18.75

Emerald Coast Act 2
1: SB737 - 01:20.00

Mystic Ruins Act 2
1: SB737 - 02:04.64

Those co-op runs were played on original genesis console, werster does have skill, but as Roken once said to me, "No matter how good you are, cheating is always easier".

I don't know much about werster's history, but I do know he has a record in cheating. From cheating on girls to cheating on this site, he doesn't have the greatest track record. Afaik he was banned from this site twice (the second banning was from when he created another account, which was banned at some point after people were aware of this too). I don't know if he admitted to cheating at S3&K runs, but once he was confronted with HDL's evidence, he convenitently stopped streaming that game (coincidence..? I don't think so). Whether or not that helps you get an answer I don't know, but I hope I helepd with what I know on this subject.

TSC Race Night / Re: Race Night feedback for 2014!
« on: August 17, 2014, 10:04:16 am »
I agree and support all the ideas token said, I think the voting system definitely needs improving, perhaps a certain amount of points, rather than some people voting for multiple characters. And the way a tie is decided could be changed, not sure how it could be done though (perhaps basing it on the goal history of the game?)

Please provide proof of the following stat:

Green Hill Act 1 Rings

A screenshot of your ring count at the end of the stage and, if you wish, details of the strategy used to collect 29/30 floating rings should suffice.

General Sonic / Mega Drive help
« on: August 08, 2014, 11:57:40 am »
So I dug out my mega drive, and I haven't played it for about 7-8 years. Playing it was just... ew. I put sonic 1 in and it just seem to be running properly. Now the only explanation I can think of is that it's running at pal 50, and not pal 60. Or the mega drives just had it. Is there any way to play my mega drive in pal 60? Video here of footage ( sorry for filming it portrait like a retard and m camera phone didn't like the old TV it was on. http://youtu.be/7YmYJy1Q8hE

Made a trailer for the marathon, so feel free to tweet the video, link it on your youtube channel or upload it to your channel to spread the word, I'll be making the video public as soon as flyingfox gets the charity sorted. For now it's unlisted. http://youtu.be/ms5ZyGTDd7Q

Competition Central / Re: Sonic Generations 3DS Charts
« on: August 05, 2014, 12:28:32 pm »
If that compromise were to be the best option (and it's probably the best suggestion that won't overload the game charts and possibl put people off), then missions that perhaps wouldn't be added, would be perfection, die hard (obv), stealth, and possibly keep the pace. I think removing the sphere collector missions would also be a good idea too, unless someone disagrees.

There are 14 of each mission type, these are the ones I propose to keep:
Ring Collector
Rampage
Item collector
Special Trial

That would leave 56 missions in total. How does that sound?

79
you have to first go to level select, then play the sound 0 3 times in sound test, then you can select to enable elemental shields

My proposal of the missions to be added (It's actually the same as what CyberScore have up), unless anyone wishes to keep them specifically, I would propose that the Perfection missions be removed, as anyone who does a decent speedrun of a time attack stage doesn't take damage in it, so they probably shouldn't be added.

Competition Central / Re: Sonic Generations 3DS Charts
« on: August 04, 2014, 06:42:26 am »
Best to bump this rather than make a new topic, I also would like to see charts added for the missions, granted they take a bit of time to unlock (Timpz educated me that you could get enough play coins in about 2 hours to unlock them all), however when I compete on CS at them, I just earn the play coins when I want a new mission to play. There has been a few players now requesting this chart:
Me
Zeupar
James_Bertolli
Zip
(Diamond) he competes at them on CS so he'll no doubt want to compete at them here too.

If anyone else has an opinion on this matter/ would compete on these charts, then please speak up.

General Sonic / Sonic Prologue Fan film released
« on: August 03, 2014, 08:18:46 am »
http://youtu.be/9C1ryUfXnR4
The movie is about Sonic & Tails reminiscing about how they first met. Personally I think it's quite good for a fan made film, what do you guys think about it?

83
Sonic 1, I'm definitely interested in this, just wondering if streaming is required, as in going to be away for a couple of weeks during this, so I may be able to still race those weeks, just not stream.
Also sounds like a great idea!

General Sonic / Re: Tips for running the 2D games?
« on: July 15, 2014, 03:14:50 am »
For Sonic 1 a good tutorial is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7g-GGqQeCQ
For Sonic 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVuQXqAAwos
For Sonic 3&K (As Tails) [Part 1]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDHGzlUoa_Q
[Part 2]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kWbp5478X0

I don't think there are any tutorials for the characters of Sonic or Knuckles for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but I could be wrong, feel free to PM me if you need any help though.
Sonic 1 2013 and Sonic 2 2014 strats are largely similar to the original games strats, but without glitches. However one notable difference in Sonic 2 2013 is that as Tails in Oil Ocean Act 2 you can fly over the boss, which saves alot of time.

The important thing is to be able to spindash quickly to go fast, which just takes alot of practice. If you keep practicing, then you'll get the hang of speedrunning the games, it just takes time.

Hope I helped :)
