TSC Race Night / Re: 3D Race Night 3: Generations
« on: October 14, 2012, 04:39:05 pm »
thanks for the tips umbreon, if i get time this week i might look up some routes and see if i can put endless boost to good use. knowing me i'll put it off until saturday at around 4pm though, lol. i'm personally not opposed to a new file run, since your estimate of 2 hours or so is about what my last playthrough took me. 2 hours to me isn't a huge deal on a saturday, dunno how other people feel though.

for what it's worth, i also don't really think the speed glitch needs to be banned either. i know i can't do it for shit, but from what i've gathered it doesn't make a difference on a lot of levels. as far as i know it's tough to pull off too, seems like it might be unreliable in a race. i don't know though, maybe it's easier than i'm imagining. i also imagine that if i can't do the speed glitch, i clearly haven't practiced very much, and it being banned probably won't make me rank any higher in the race anyway.

i wouldn't mind doing what hyper said. however for me i don't know about skills vs no skills. i kinda get the feeling doing it with skills would put me even further behind in the race. i don't really know what skills to use, and even if i did know i wouldn't know what to do with those skills lol.

doing it from a new file wouldn't be too bad, the bosses and missions would probably add an extra half hour or more to the race for an average player though, and i dunno if people would want to race something that long. of course it might not be too big a deal since wind waker races seem to be popular, which any reasonable goal is probably quite lengthy.

well i don't know anything about common goals or whatever since i don't spend much time on srl, but being that it's 3d race night it should probably involve modern sonic levels.

not sure if it even needs to be said, but for what it's worth i'm willing to race anything. i also think sonic 06 is definitely worth a try at some point, since as ppl said before it got a shit ton of views in the marathon. people love to hate that game.

i think consistency might bring up interest more over time anyway. once other people start catching on to the fact that some guys are racing a random sonic game every week i think it will gradually pull in more people even on the more obscure games. it might be wise to stick to the more tried and true games at the start til people start catching on and becoming interested

thorn you sexy beast, congrats.

also parax <3 to you too, grats!

2. The site is outdated

1. Sub-games. It'd be neat if, say, when you pull up a certain game, you have the option to switch to an alternate set of charts for that game. For example, say you click on Sonic CD, and then you can switch between charts for CD and 2011.

2. Version difference tracking and customizable rankings. Version differences have always been a kind of prickly subject. Let's say you're trying to compete in Sonic Adventure DX, and you've just done an amazing run of Final Egg and got 0:57. But the record is 7 seconds!

Anyway, that's all I have for now. Let's hope everyone doesn't think that entire post was awful. :P

trimmed the quote for... obvious reasons.

i had nothing to say about the rules because i haven't really gotten too involved in anything involving them, nor have i been here long enough for it to matter. might as well throw in my 2c on the other issues though

as far as your first issue goes, it would be nice to clean up the clutter, but i might be a bit more ocd than most people. from the perspective of someone who is relatively new to the site i think it would be a nice change.

as far as the second issue goes, i think that definitely should be touched on. the example you brought up brings up some pretty extreme disadvantages that makes it really hard to compete in those games. it's kind of off-putting to know that you won't be able to have a competitive time in certain levels because of the version you have. sure you could just go out and get a dreamcast or something if you really cared, but that's a lot to ask of some people. i don't know enough about other games to be able to cite other examples, but if those kinds of version differences exist it really should be taken care of. i don't know if i would say its necessary to go as far as to say that the 360/ps3 versions of games need to have their own, unless of course there are issues like the sonic adventure/dx ones that were brought up.

i should add that i think that sonic 1 gba needs a chart as well, and totally not because i just went full retard and bought a copy and want to upload times or anything, i totally think it would be competetive(not srs). also skypatrol

News and Updates / Re: Charity Marathon Final Thoughts
« on: August 31, 2012, 03:56:15 am »
thorn you sexy beast. i think another marathon would be great. those last few days in the recent one was some of the most fun i've ever had. i didn't even play anything. might be hard to get money for a charity so close to the sda marathon though

We could always do some "Bastard Children of SEGA" runs... 4P PSOv2 PC clean runthrough/Challenge runs, maybe?  JSR just got a digital-distribution re-release, maybe have someone train up on that?

I don't know if I'd be able to stream, or even run, these, just throwing out ideas.  I do have a private PSO server for PSOv2PC if other people want to run it, if that's any help...

i am 100% down for some pso, seriously. the world needs more pso

my name on this site is sonikkusama, i generally go by that, sonicsama, or sonikku. i prefer sonikku. i've come here for a while, i've used your maps as many a reference for drawing pretty pictures. these maps even helped me win a free copy of sonic cd.

i signed up a few months back and haven't posted yet. i'm posting today because i've been sitting around in the twitch chat for a few days in the marathon and i like all of you guys.

so hello to you fine gentlemanly and beastly(thorn) scholars, <3 you all.
