Thanks!

I watched some of the runs allready, but those were mostly act 1´s :-)

Competition Central / Carrying over shields in S3&K
« on: November 03, 2006, 11:39:45 am »
I have a question regarding S3&K:
Is it legal to carry over a shield from act 1 into act 2 for a time attack of act 2 of a zone?
E.g. Getting a Lightning Shield in SO1 and using it to complete SO2 faster

I looked through the rules and found nothing about it, so i thought i´d ask before submitting my time.

(Sorry if this has been asked before)

Yeah, just make an exception for the unavoidable rings.

Another suggestion:

Finish an entire act/zone with only x jumps (spindashes?), shield uses would of course count as additional jumps.
(Maybe the number of allowed jumps would have to be higher for S3&K, as the levels are much longer.)

Edit: I got yet another idea (Yeah, it just keeps coming to me ^^):
The challenge would be to rack up a certain amount of lives in a single act of choice, maybe 5 (or 4 if 5 is not possible, i don´t have all extra live monitors in my head)
The first 2 lives would obviously be 100 and 200 ring bonus lives, the other 3 would have to be found in monitors(or gained through points). Bonus stages would of course be forbidden.

An entire game, now that would sure be worthy of a master emerald :-)

Another idea would be to open all monitors in an entire game. The problem would be that it would be a pretty long run, since one would need to get to almost all secret areas.

Yes, thats exactly what i meant.

I just tried it, took me several tries, but i can provide a .giz of it if desired (obviously only to SDM).
There are a few knacks to it, but once you find them out its not too hard.

Also, what about a challenge where you need to finish an act (or a zone?) without obtaining any rings.
In this challenge the choice of level would be free i guess. Probably too easy for a master emerald again.

This will be a short one, since i have only played 1/2/3&K and (once) Advance 1:

Sonic (MD)
Best: Green Hill Zone
Worst: Marble Zone, but its not too bad

Sonic 2(MD)
Best: Chemical Plant or Hill Top Zone
Worst: Casino Night Zone, the only one i don´t enjoy playing

Sonic 3(MD)
Best: Launch Base Zone
Worst: Carnival Night Zone, i guess i don´t like the whole theme and all those bumpers in all casino zones :-)

Sonic & Knuckles(MD)
Best: Probably Sandopolis, but they are all so good :-)
Worst: Hidden Palace, i would have liked it if they had made it something like Act 1 of Sky Sanctuary, with a real level, not just some springs and a miniboss/cutscene

------

Special Stages
Best: Glowing Spheres from S&K (not Blue Sphere)
Worst: Sonic 2 run-down-the-lane-stage

Eggman Stages
Best: Tie between Launch Base and Death Egg
Worst: None, they all play pretty nice

"Green" Stages
Best: Mushroom Hill Zone
Worst: Emerald Hill Zone

Water-Zones
Best: Hydrocity, a water level that is fast, nice
Worst: None, once i learned how to play them i stopped hating them :-)

I also have one:

Finish Sandopolis 2 without switching on the light (maybe without taking damage?), would fit under some category like endurance or handicap :-)
Obviously, not a candidate for a master emerald, but maybe an easy super or a hard chaos one.

Hiya Folks / Re: Hello all!

Ah, a nice warm welcome :-)

I am right now trying to get used to using an emulator & NTSC, as opposed to my usual setup: Mega Drive & PAL (Which i plan to equip with a 50/60 switch, but right now i am missing.... a soldering gun ^^)
