First of all, Metroid's "Stagnant" environments, as you called them (which are anything but) create a sense of isolation and mystery.  As for stagnant.....have you ever even played Metroid Prime? The entire world feels like it's a living, breathing environment thanks to superb ambient sounds, organic structuring, creatures that go about their business even when you're not around, and absolute top-notch artistic direction.  Bioshock does little to bring real life to it's world.  There are ambiant sounds, and the occasional splicer talking to itself or whatever, but the whole place feels dead, lifeless.  I'm aware that it's supposed to be the game's motif, but there are ways of creating that mood that don't make the environments feel lifeless.

As for shooters lacking depth, when it comes down to it, they really revolve around 1 simple mechanic: Shooting.  A shooter has to have shooting as it's main focus of gameplay, otherwise it's not considered a shooter, and when you're gameplay revolves around one simple, repetitive mechanic, it gets stale very quickly.  Certain other games have extensive amounts of shooting, but because they also have other major gameplay elements, they aren't considered shooters, and become something much more (again, Metroid Prime works as a fair example here, though it is much more adventure-heavy).  My point is, it doesn't matter if you can take cover, or drive vehicles around or whatever, IMO, shooters are still a stale genre in desperate need of an evolution that will turn them into something more than just a shooter.

 Anyway that's my 2 cents

Eh.... it's not bad. It's still a shooter, which puts severe limitations on the depth of gameplay it's even capable of having.  Artistically it's not bad, but it's still nowhere near something like Metroid Prime.  Trust me I have an AAS in Video Game Art & Design, going for my Bachelors, I know what I'm talking about here.

Hmmmmm.....this is hard, and subject to change...

 1. Zelda Ocarina of Time
 2. Metroid Prime
 3. Sonic 3 and Knuckles
 4. Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War
 5. Chrono Trigger/Cross  (equal)
 6. Castlevania Symphony of the Night
 7. Super Smash Bros Melee
 8. Resident Evil 4
 9. Final Fantasy X
 10. Dragon Warrior Monsters

Dunno if that's the order, but it's something like that

« on: November 04, 2007, 04:12:58 pm »
I'd like to know what everybody's( If you have one) favorite anime/manga.

I've made a list of what mine are and a small synopsis of what they're about. I have put them in order from favorite to least favorite:

  • 1. Bobobo-bobo-bobo. It's about a person named bobobo(spanish for fool) who is out to stop a group of people who are out to steal everybody's hair.
  • 2. Reborn! It's about a kid named Tsunayoshi who is the 10th generation boss of the mafia.
  • 3. Dr. Slump. It's about a doctor( more of an inventor) who builds a female robot named Arale.
  • 4. Naruto. It's about a young ninja named Naruto who has a dream of becoming hokage(leader-like person) of his village.
  • 5. Bleach. It's about a teenager named Ichigo who can see ghosts and because of which becomes a soul slayer(a person who uses a special sword to slay hollows(a soul that's, say, "evil"))
  • 6. Ouran highscool host club. It's about a girl named Haruhi who poses as a boy so she can pay off a debt that started because she broke a vase.
  • 7. One Piece. It's about a young pirate named Luffy who wants to find a giant treasure and be king of the pirates.
  • 8. Yu-gi-oh. It's about a boy named Yugi who's friends and himself are obsessed with a card game called Duel monsters, and Yugi finds that the soul of a pharoh shares a body with him.
  • 9. Trigun. It's about a wanted man who has two ladies from an insurance company following him.
  • 10. Yuyu hakusho. It's about a teenager named Yusuke who after he dies, makes a deal with the ruler of the underworld to be alive again, only to find that he then has to be a detective from the underworld.
Yeah....this is the only anime on here even worth watching >_>. Well....I guess Trigun isn't that bad.
[/list]

So, if you have a favorite manga/anime, post it here.

My favorite is easily Akira.  I also like Princess Mononoke, Ruouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Blue Gender, Ghost in the Shell (movie, of course), Ninja Scroll, and....well that's all I can think of now.

Also Dans > Mikes.

RPG's name is Dan and Thorn's name is Mike. Which side should I choose?

...

I think I'll just hide in a corner until everything solves itself.

* Rick hides in a corner

Well, RPG is Dan, Thorn is Mike...but Yse is Mike too, so I'm gonna have to side with the Mikes at the moment. Sorry RPG >_>

Yeah, there really hasn't been any big updates lately, so I'm hoping there is going to be something big soon.

hoody isn't very '50s now is it?

And yes you come from the past. You're a time traveler. That's cool! And very 50s-like.

But look, NO MORE COMPLAINTS *slams desk with fist* You wanted to be in it and you are, so take some responsibility. There are no do-overs, that's not how life works.

 No u >_>

Oh, and whatever shirt I'm wearing MUST have YDW on it

*edit: WTF you can't put greek letters in the forums? I call BS. Anyway, it's PsiDeltaOmega, look them up >_>

How about a tight fitting leather jacket.

You have rosy cheecks because you're tipsy and you're from the '50s.

Embrace it. This is you now.

Ok there is no way I can come from the past. nowai. And you don't get rosy cheeks from drinking...trust me I know these things.... Also no leather...how about a sport-hoody or something?

Some time traveling going on here!

WTF do I have rosey cheeks and a collar'd shirt? O_o

Characters: 34
Stages: not exactly sure. 40 maybe
Tiers: I have a feeling SSBB's physics and balance are much different than SSBM's, so I really can't judge this now.
Characters not returning: If any, Dr. Mario and Pichu.
Newcomers: Hopefully Ridley, and Sonic. Mega Man would be a good 3rd party character too. Sigurd I think is likely, as he was initially going to be in the original SSB. DeDeDe and K Rool I would like to see too.  I'm not too sure really, there are just too many possibilities.

Well if I ever find my way into your comic...there are pics of me posted in the "post your face" thread. Other than that...well..I don't know how to describe myself. I'm a frat brother, I party and drink beer and like girls....you know...frat life... I'm active and athletic, in good shape....eh...I can be pretty random sometimes (especially drunk). Well you can probably pick up on some stuff from the chat if you've ever seen me in there.

Lol at that last bit genus. The thing about artistic message though, is even if you don't intentionally put any sort of message in it, someone is going to find a message. I believe art is a reflection of oneself whether they intentionally imply some sort of message or not, which is why all art can convey a message. I find it rather fake to create any sort of artistic piece to intentionally convey a sort of message, because it draws cliches to your work.  People assoiciate meaning from cliche'd symbols, which is why they find themselves into artwork so often. I try not to think about anything when I draw, but somehow my art will reflect something.

Maybe it does continuous damage, like Lip's Stick? I don't know for sure.

It seriously is. There is just so much shit to do in it. Not to mention there are like 7 ages, ranging from the stone age to slightly beyond modern times. Nothing beats plowing over a bunch of spear-throwing savages with tanks.....or vaporising them with an ICBM nuke :D

You wanna hear something sad? My art professor would think that stuff is "great work" artistically. However, she is a moron and wouldn't know good art if it bit her in the clit. No offense though genus, your stuff is pretty amusing in it's own genus-y way.

uh-huh. The more abstract something is and the less it looks like what it's supposed to, the more artistic it is. As egg from my comic put it: "there are no pants in art"

Which is complete BS. It may appeal to the self-proclaimed "artists," but to a vast majority of he population it's going to be shit.

I vote Dragon Warrior Monsters, for it's sheer proness.  I'm curious to see what types of monsters people end up using.

326
I'm all for SSBB tournies. I'll have to play a bit to adjust to the game's physics (which will likely be different from SSBM) and general style of play, as well as find a suitable character. It shouldn't take too long to do all that though.

erm... well.... I have a big scar on the inside of my right knee from a Motocross crash. I have pretty bad (and mostly permanent) tendonitis in both of my achille's tendons and up my shins. The tendons on my left knee are growing into my kneecap. my teeth are also not in great shape heh. I don't really have any major "disfigurements" though.
