If you guys have a layover in Denver, consider yourselves invited to smash against me, and maybe get some food in ya.  May even have transport so you don't have to taxi it, haha.

Ya know, as pessimistic as I can be, I saw me a spindash as classic sonic...

I mean, honestly, most of us are going to pick it up one way or another (how many of us own 06...), and I don't think this could be the worst sonic outing, as there's already a lot of competition for that award.

It does look breakable in some places, and I hope it is.  Obviously it can't be 2D-game broken, but that doesn't mean I can't hope for similar nonsense.  Looking forward to release and will be keeping an eye on it.  SEGA made colors awesome, let's go for two!

I could whine about not being able to play my sonic, but honestly, it looks great.  If it doesn't have S06 problems, it looks like it could be Unleashed, with werehog replaced with classic sonic platforming...  and honestly, isn't that what's best for everyone?

Not assuming it'll be great, but they got colors right... maybe 2 in a row?

I love that we finally have an official 3D black-eyes model.  Regardless of how good the game is at least there's a start to getting the classic sonic model back.

3D confirmed for PS3, 360, and (surprisingly enough!) 3DS. 3DS uses Genesis Green Hill 1 as the classic Green Hill act. City Escape video also confirms Rooftop Run 360/PS3.

Gameplay Trailer

Update, April 19
In-game footage. Clearly edited, but with clean audio and the majority of the first level for both Classic and Modern styles.

Initial Post by FKE
You all saw it coming. As Sega promised, at exactly 9am (EST) they released a 50 second teaser trailer that shows off what's to come later on this year. (I would post more about the video but who would want to spoil that?)

Although it has no name it's mostly obvious that the title will be 'Sonic Generations'. Not much is known other than the game will be released (With some form of Online content) for the Xbox 360 & Playstation 3 this year. (I assume it's Q4) People with the Nintendo Wii/3DS will be disappointed to find out that they will be missing out on this title. You may also noticed the level mostly confirms the rumor from October.

So other than this [not so useful] info, what are your thoughts on the teaser trailer? It's also my obligation to say "BWAAAAAAAAA, GREEN EYES."

Thorn EDIT: For the sake of moving this post to the site's front page, lemme clarify a few things FKE / Mysterious Figure / whatever-he's-called-today said without citation. The initial trailer reveal was done on the official Sonic Facebook page on April 7 at 9 AM EDT. The "Sonic Generations" expected title comes from a recent URL registration from SEGA that does not have any content at the moment. Official confirmation of consoles is at the end of the video and shows 360 and PS3; Nintendo players shouldn't count themselves out this year, as there were also rumors of 3DS titles and another Mario & Sonic game (and if turning Radical Highway into a snowboarding level didn't do it for you in the last one, you are unpleasable). Various release dates have been thrown around, from the actual 20th anniversary of Sonic on June 23, 2011 to the usual October to December holiday release, but the timing of the trailer showing suggests a later release.

WOO!

ITT PPA's a jerk.  Also, SoJ and SoA both had pretty meh 4-1 jokes this year.

The Team Battle trick is that you cause the enemies to spawn dead, not just getting an early start.  Generally, the results of a trick define it's legality, and unless this breaks levels completely, I see no reason to ban it.

I have six broken logitech controllers that've been frakensteined into two, which broke again, got frakensteined together, and broke again, all from normal use (for me) in a six-month period.

For contrast, a standard PS2 Dual-Shock lasts about 3-6 months, my SG-Propad 6 lasted 12 years, and my Wavebird has lasted 8 years or so, but the A button is getting a little shoddy.

^The rule said it was because the emulators weren't advanced enough yet, so with the fact they were, they were already allowed under the premise of the new rule, I believe that's what F-man meant.

I've been using them for awhile, I just didn't run competition on them because fuck running a 3D game with a KB without being able to use KB+M... also, I've yet to see a decent non-stick USB controller. (and for those unaware, I hate arcade sticks except for a handful of games I was arcade-trained for)

I've done marble zips, among others, on both collection and Genesis.  The only emulator-only thing I could think of would be where the emulator makes up lag, maybe (That's FCEU when I was working on Mario, and it was a fair bit easier on emu than console, don't know if it effects Genesis).

Gaming and Grazing / Re: PSP2 for $999.99
« on: January 29, 2011, 11:44:42 am »
^They're (sony) claiming that it'll be as powerful as the PS3, so I could see them thinking they could charge that much, honestly.  Even selling the PS3 "At a loss" (yeah, because someone in R&D was a dipshit, maybe), it was too rich for lots of people's blood.  It wasn't until they nerfed the fuck out of it they dropped the price.

That said, most analysts put it at 250 along with the 3DS release, from what I've been reading.  Unless they're going to offer something fucking amazing (monthy free downloadable games, or better), I can already see Sony, once again, flailing to keep up with competition that better understands the game.

My guess?  PSP2 comes out at 300, Sony fanboys/diehards grab it on release, it has a tiny library of appreciable games unique to it that are hailed by it's fans and do little more than annoy everyone else, and it uses series-fan-based pulls and old-stand remakes/ports instead of trying to develop anything for itself.

Oh wait, that was the first one, my bad.

^IIRC they got the launch price of the 360 elite correct.

but yeah, that time was notable because it wasn't wrong >_>

besides, who cares?  how about we get a ton of good games for the first one first? (And don't give me this "it's a portable, it's not supposed to have long games" bullshit, I've spent hundreds of hours on my gameboy for the handful of long games *it* had, and it was a far more simplistic chunk of technology.)

You seem to fail to understand the goal of speedrunning.

See the timer when you start a level?  See how it's rising?  Your job is to stop that timer in the fewest possible increments.  That's all.

We don't measure skill, we don't measure entertainment, we don't measure how boring a stat is to obtain.  None of these things are relevant to speedrunning.  What we do measure, and what our site's goal to measure is, would be the stats themselves: how many rings CAN you/HAVE been obtained in level X, what's the maximum score in a single zone, how low can the timer be stopped.  This is what high level play is about: the stats themselves.

Because all the Gen-Drive games timers except TT(which has no pal) and SCD Bonus(Which is what we're talking about) are based on frames, not real time, they're all used for competition.  TT has no official PAL, so it's 50hz version (haha) is banned.  SCD does, so it's used, because the timer's faster.  TSC seeks to use any and all official released in it's rankings, so long as the differences are technical and not layout based, as it applies to GenDrive games.

We don't care how long it takes to clear a levels in real time, we care how early the timer stops (Time-stop glitches are universally allowed, for example).

Either you don't understand the rhetoric of the site, or you don't understand the speedrunning it's based on.

Also, since you're out of touch with the community, I'll let you know we ARE going to add SCD time zones, to be played from the debug stage-select menu. (PP1 past/future is hilariously short, bwaha)

79
I'd also vote for EH, because I could design the level based on mechanics I know (If I do this).

80
build levels without coding?  sounds pretty sweet to me.

which game are we using as a base?

EDIT: also, you should contact the guy who made it SonicDIY with our levels pack, if you haven't, and see what he thinks.  he scrapped the project, and I think that's sad because aside from the BS war of doom, it was one megashitton (exactly~) of fun.

81
I don't know anything about any favorite "Stage", but I have a number of favorite zones and acts~

but nothing, for me, can ever top EH1.  Home sweet home~

the spirit of the rule is "Don't TAS, don't use flash-slow", as far as I know

the rewording seems to fit it better

84
Version differences are generally lumped together, and I believe they should be.  Those who get to the top are the best, and are willing to do what it takes.  Similarly, people who don't glitch don't have 1st times, because they aren't pushing the game.

Wanting them ranked separately would serve to drastically increase the number of available charts without likewise increasing competition, which would give rise to a problem much like the current freestyle charts, i.e. while some would compete in both, but either the stats would lose refinement or the people would lose lots of time playing levels that are quite similar in two formats.

The alternative here would be to submit the slower time in both charts(like freestyle now can accept runs where you don't turn super), as well as the faster time on it's own chart (where time difference does apply, like you can't sub a SS-time to a normal-sonic chart), which means that we'd be tracking a chart that has no competition value (the slower of the two) towards the perfection of the game as a whole.  Considering this is TSC's goal, I certainly prefer this method.  (TASVideo's method, as opposed to TG or SDA for ranking).

Everything you suggested has vastly negative implications, for our charts (purists only submit on half the charts (the system they own), competitors in the game only submit in half the charts (faster of the two), completionists or sitewide-competitors then get a huge amount of points just for filling up the charts and competing with others, and this category are the only people who receive a gain), for our sitewide, for our personal times (I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to play sub-optimal versions of the game, or multiple copies of levels, etc.), for our site organization, and for our legitimacy as the unofficial competitive authority for Sonic the Hedgehog.  While it does offer a single positive trait (broadness of competition), I don't believe that's all that important, practical, or useful in attaining the site goal.

Thanks for your time.

we totally need to get this topic going as an SA topic:

Quick Step Bonus maxes at 100k (100 QSs), according to Umby.

I believe Rocket bonus ends at 405k (5 'full' uses, or 15 score ticks) (PW5 testing... don't think levels change anything, but should be noted)

frenzy is 400k (50 ticks) (AC5)

Motion control is bs.  It should be tracked because people bothered tracking both SatSR and SBK, even though both of those are utter abominations to all gaming.

If I ever wind up with it, I might submit... but I certainly wouldn't spend money to be so offended.
