General Sonic / Re: SEGA/ Sonic Team
« on: May 19, 2009, 09:49:19 am »
I thought SA, SA2, Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, and Sonic Unleashed were all good--I won't specify which ones I think are better than good due to lack of time in typing this message. I haven't played Sonic Chronicles, but knowing it's by BioWare can't make it all that bad, could it?

But, anyways, I like what Sonic Team did with Sonic Unleashed for the most part and can only hope that Sonic's games can get even better, though I have a bad feeling that SEGA thought they did their best with Sonic Unleashed and thus won't make a game better than it for at least another ten more years, despite Sonic Unleashed not being as good as all the other Sonic games I mentioned in my first sentence.

I can only hope that Sonic games keep getting better. We shall see.

I thought I'd pop in and say: no one has the right to even ask what's wrong with Sonic 2006 until s/he gets every single achievement for the game. It takes about 50 hours to do and it's one of the most frustrating accomplishments I have ever done.

With that said, I am going to be very specific when I say the whole game needs fixing. Yeah, I'm being dead serious.

Don't forget that the Genesis/MegaDrive and Saturn soundtracks are completely different, and yet they're both completely awesome. The compositions in the Genesis version are catchier and better in my opinion, but the quality of Saturn's soundtrack is vastly superior, especially for 1996 (what do you expect from Richard Jacques? :P).

But, of course, you were asking about gameplay, so I'll keep my music knowledge to myself now.

That was such a good performance!!!

Also, nice-looking Rouge! :) I've decided to upload a video of my Sonic characters once I get back my 3rd Xbox 360, considering my 2nd one just RRoD'd.

General Sonic / Re: When did you start playing Sonic?
« on: January 12, 2009, 04:36:08 am »
I was about 7 years old when I started playing the Sonic games. Since then, I've beaten all of them except for Sonic CD, and the 32x/Saturn/GameGear titles.

Majora's Mask is not only one of the best Zeldas, it's also one of the best games on any platform ever. Period.  Oh and Mario Kart Wii is a great game, and far and away the best Mario Kart game.
Agreed on Majora's Mask. Sure, it was confusing, but it was an awesome confusing. I love the sidequests in it so much.

And I think Mario Kart DS is my favorite Mario Kart game, but I don't want to take this thread down a weird road of listing off our favorite such-and-such games. :P

It was a good game, but absolutely nowhere near great. I think Sonic should be sold to Nintendo because SEGA doesn't know how to make great games.

In comparison, Sonic 2006 was like having sex with tub girl while Sonic Unleashed was like performing cunnilingus while being randomly peed on once an hour, kinda like "What was that for???? Don't surprise me with that crap!" Score-wise, I would give Sonic 2006 a 4/10 while I would give Sonic Unleashed a 7/10.

to the former: Uh... when did Nintendo ever make good games?

to the latter: That is a very bizarre statement, in many facets...
I shall answer your first question by asking a qustion: When did Nintendo ever make bad games? I'll tell you: Super Mario Sunshine,  Mario Kart Wii, and Wii Music. That's three games over the span of twenty years that I consider bad, and I honestly believe every other first-party-developed game is excellent.

And in response to your other comment: Well, I thought it was a warranted analogy. :P

I didn't think sun/moon medal collecting was all that bad, kind of fun. Hot dog missions suck though, I haven't even bothered trying to finish all of those yet. >_>
At least it's better than S-Ranking every stage and boss! :D Of course, it would've been better had they just kept the LV3 version of each hot dog, that way you'd only have to get 3 day hot dogs and 2 night hot dogs instead of 9 and 6. :( Plus, you're just doing the same thing three times in a row anyways.

Like I told you on Xbox Live, Eggmanland's hot dogs are insane. The requirements may have well been "Beat the level without dying", "Beat the level without dying again", and "Beat the level without dying again again", which is really stupid. Why not actually just keep it at "Beat the level without dying" and call it a day, SEGA? Seriously, who'd need 40 minutes on that stage???

« on: January 07, 2009, 04:16:02 am »
It was a good game, but absolutely nowhere near great. I think Sonic should be sold to Nintendo because SEGA doesn't know how to make great games. I was expecting this to be a great game, and it would've been had I just done the story and not go for the achievements, BUT THE GAME SHOWS ITS TRUE COLORS WHEN YOU TRY TO COMPLETE IT ALL. Seriously, some moments in the game were just terrible, but they shined like pure gold when they were good.

Good: Day-time levels were fun and still enjoyable when you died, Night-time levels were a lot of fun and mostly played like God of War, music was amazing, and every boss except for the final boss were fun.

Bad: Terrible camera control when it's in a fixed position at night, unresponsive controls when trying to press the A/B/LB/RB buttons perfectly timed, Sonic slides too much and turns too slowly during the day, the HUB has the most boring/redundant/tedious/pointless NPCs and missions I've ever seen, finding all 400 Sun/Moon medals without a guide was extremely frustrating, Eggmanland was not beta-tested completely, some ledges and handles that could be locked-on to had tiny windows for error (which leads to more proof in a lack of beta-testing), and the hot dog missions were frustratingly repetitive.

With this said, I believe that Sonic Unleashed is much better than Sonic 2006, but still has a lot of problems because SEGA won't take its time to beta-test absolutely every single nook and cranny from every game they make, unlike Nintendo. Were Sonic Unleashed beta-tested to the point that every single glitch was removed and every bad-camera-angle-with-an-oh-so-conveniently-hard-to-reach-platform, then SEGA's reputation would be much better. It doesn't help that the HUB isn't fun at all.

I don't think Sonic needs to die--unlike what the Yahoo! article said--but just SEGA. They said they were bringing in their best developers to make this game and I can only assume that this is the best they can do. SEGA, you can't make great games. Please, just die.

Oh, and according to MyGamerCard, I'm 1 of 40 in the whole entire world to 100% this game.

Gaming and Grazing / Re: My 360...
« on: December 20, 2008, 06:41:45 am »
The idea of energetically waiting for an RRoD is bizarre to me. Oh well, as long as the 360 gets fixed, I guess.
It's a Microsoft-ism. Kind of like how MS has made people believe that it's normal for computers to crash randomly for no reason, and that reliable software can't be written.

Concur'd, GS...  It's somewhat depressing in that field, and that's why Linux exists...

now that I'm done with WoW (for months now...) I might get a Linux box, or make my older box into Linux (probably using it as a work-box)
Linux isn't perfect--no operating system is--but it's definitely going in a better direction than Microsoft is. Microsoft purposely makes defective products so we have to buy more of their stuff. For example: we've come to expect the blue screen of death when using a Windows OS, but sometimes the whole computer may just simply die. The sad reality of it all is how most of the PC games on the market are meant to be played only on Windows XP--some being made exclusively for the malicious Windows Vista--and so you're stuck with having to use something unreliable in order to game.

Of course, the same can be said of the Xbox 360. I would say that it has the most worthwhile software this generation, and yet the hardware is of the worst I've ever seen. What a disappointment. I hope M$'s next system isn't another bucket of fail.

I forgot to mention

Final Fantasy VII
Beat Ruby Weapon before fighting Emerald Weapon. I did not use Knights of the Round, Mime, or the 7777 attack. It took me 60 hours to prepare for the fight.

Super Monkey Ball
Completed all of the levels, even the Master stages. That means you have to beat Expert Mode w/extra stages without using a continue. It's ridiculous.

Super Monkey Ball 2
Beaten the game completely about four times. Each time I do it, I obtain enough points to get all 99 lives for Challenge Mode as well.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Beat World 10-5. It took me six hours straight. You have no idea how hard it is.

Goldeneye 007
Beat every stage on 00 Agent, therefore unlocking 007 Mode.

Pokemon Blue
Authentically got all 150 Pokemon.

Metroid Prime
Beat the game without collecting a single energy tank, missile expansion, power bomb expansion, or weapon expansion (for the wave/ice/plasma beam). My item completion rate was 29%.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Beat the game on Hypermode. You have no idea how hard it is.

Rock Band 2
Beat The Camera Eye on Expert Drums.

Silent Hill 3
Beat it in less than 50 minutes.

Donkey Kong 64
Collected all 201 Golden Bananas, Banana Fairies, Banana Medals, and all 4500 colored bananas without a guide. It took me 112 hours.

Mega Man 9
Beat every challenge except for Mr. Perfect.

And to stress the fact:
Sonic the Hedgehog 2006
Got all the achievements.

Aaand SJ's colorful vocabulary appears yet again....  <_<
You make it sound like it's a bad thing. I don't see anything in the rules about not using profanity. I mean, I don't use it, but SJ has every right to.

My two cents.
It's actually a joke ... people are generally free with their language here, SJ is just possibly the top "offender" (or second only to RPG).  He has claimed in the past that his mouth was clean before he started competing here ... and someone (I forget who) actually documented every case where he swears in his submission comments, it's quite the entertaining read.  We're talking about someone who can make the F-bomb into any part of speech.  Yes, pronouns included.
Understood. That was a nice read! :)

So it seems that, even if it takes a long time to RRoD, I'll still be able to get it repaired if it happens.
That is correct. Just keep waiting for that Red Ring! :)

It's cheap and easy to use. I got one a month ago and it was super easy to setup.

DIE!

on that note, do you take requests, Nario?

EDIT: Er... not as a request to die... I meant do you take requests for CT songs >_>
Sadly, no. My amount of free time is getting smaller and smaller as of lately and I don't have any time to learn new songs from anything I want even if I wanted to. I'd love to take requests, but I simply do not have time. Sorry. :(

Glad to see some Chrono Cross love. :) I think its story and soundtrack are amazing, and it saddens me when Chrono Trigger fanboys can't get over how different the two games are. Sure, the level cap can be a little weird on your first playthrough in Chrono Cross, but the story is most definitely worth it.

Um.... we're speedrunners...

It's to be expected that we're very impatient... no?

Hehe, being impatient isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I'm slightly impatient myself. I was only letting Chao_Fan know that in case he didn't already know, whether from experience in speedrunning or otherwise. Kinda like a matter-of-fact, and yet not criticizing him for it. ;)

The smilie I added after the third point was to lighten up the situation, as if to tell a joke somewhat. I guess I should've explained myself more carefully? :D

But, yeah, sometimes I get impatient. However, I've learned that I'm actually more patient, especially since I actually got all of the achievements for (the terrible ) Sonic 2006 (game) and Mega Man 9 (which is awesome but very hard). Of course, I also speedrun Super Monkey Ball and Silent Hill, which takes patience, so it seems as though I lean towards patient than I do impatience.

The intro was too long X_X
1. This is my first piano arrangement to post on YouTube and I felt the need to introduce my performances for the first time.

2. It was only twenty seconds long. How is that too long???? Ronald Jenkees has had longer intros.

3. You're impatient. :D
