General Sonic / Got 1000/1000 on Sonic Unleashed, and...
« on: January 07, 2009, 04:16:02 am »
It was a good game, but absolutely nowhere near great. I think Sonic should be sold to Nintendo because SEGA doesn't know how to make great games. I was expecting this to be a great game, and it would've been had I just done the story and not go for the achievements, BUT THE GAME SHOWS ITS TRUE COLORS WHEN YOU TRY TO COMPLETE IT ALL. Seriously, some moments in the game were just terrible, but they shined like pure gold when they were good.

In comparison, Sonic 2006 was like having sex with tub girl while Sonic Unleashed was like performing cunnilingus while being randomly peed on once an hour, kinda like "What was that for???? Don't surprise me with that crap!" Score-wise, I would give Sonic 2006 a 4/10 while I would give Sonic Unleashed a 7/10.

Good: Day-time levels were fun and still enjoyable when you died, Night-time levels were a lot of fun and mostly played like God of War, music was amazing, and every boss except for the final boss were fun.

Bad: Terrible camera control when it's in a fixed position at night, unresponsive controls when trying to press the A/B/LB/RB buttons perfectly timed, Sonic slides too much and turns too slowly during the day, the HUB has the most boring/redundant/tedious/pointless NPCs and missions I've ever seen, finding all 400 Sun/Moon medals without a guide was extremely frustrating, Eggmanland was not beta-tested completely, some ledges and handles that could be locked-on to had tiny windows for error (which leads to more proof in a lack of beta-testing), and the hot dog missions were frustratingly repetitive.

With this said, I believe that Sonic Unleashed is much better than Sonic 2006, but still has a lot of problems because SEGA won't take its time to beta-test absolutely every single nook and cranny from every game they make, unlike Nintendo. Were Sonic Unleashed beta-tested to the point that every single glitch was removed and every bad-camera-angle-with-an-oh-so-conveniently-hard-to-reach-platform, then SEGA's reputation would be much better. It doesn't help that the HUB isn't fun at all.

I don't think Sonic needs to die--unlike what the Yahoo! article said--but just SEGA. They said they were bringing in their best developers to make this game and I can only assume that this is the best they can do. SEGA, you can't make great games. Please, just die.

Oh, and according to MyGamerCard, I'm 1 of 40 in the whole entire world to 100% this game.

General Sonic / Sonic 2006

So, I just got all 1000 achievement points for Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360 and, I must say, it's the worst Sonic game I've ever played. I grew up on Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles, Spinball, and 3D Blast when I was a youngster. Later once I got a GameCube, I continued my Sonic experience with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, then Director's Cut, then Heroes. Every single Sonic game I've played up until that point had been good and I enjoyed the heck out of every single one of them--less so for Sonic Heroes, but I tried to get all of the emblems at least, whereas I officially completed both Battle and DX. Then Shadow the Hedgehog came along and struck my heart with sadness. How could Sega Studio USA stoop so low? The game was frustrating, the story was non-existent, but at least the music was good. How could Sega get any worse?

And then Sonic the Hedgehog came out. I rented it for my Xbox 360, And I couldn't believe how bad it was. The reviews were true: the game was atrocious. I normally wouldn't pay attention to the reviews on the Internet, as they were usually filled with lies (example: DX and Battle got horrible reviews, and Gamespot even gave Battle's music a 6/10 when it deserves an 11/10), but the reviews were finally right this time around.

Filled with glitches, bugs, bad programming, and simply being an unfinished product (read the instruction manual, for instance. A fourth of the features, items, and abilities are non-existent in the game), Sonic the Hedgehog is simply Sega's hint towards the Sonic fanboys (us) that they don't care about Sonic anymore... or do they?

With Sonic Unleashed coming out this holiday season, I can only hope that Sega treats Sonic with the love that he deserves, rather than treating him and his friends like dirt.

So, yeah, I got all 1000 of the GamerScore available in Sonic 2006, and yet here I am saying that it's the worst/hardest/most unfair Sonic game ever made. What do you all say to something like that? Have you gotten all of the achievements? Do you think my past Sonic experience and my skills to get all 1000 GS makes me a credible critic in saying that Sonic 2006 is beyond horrible?

Discuss.

P.S. I do eventually plan on doing some kind of run for certain levels in this game, nonetheless. The game wasn't 0% fun (more like 10%). ;)

Gaming and Grazing / Free Rider 2

Free Rider 2

Keys of importance:
  • Enter - Restarts the level.
  • Z - Turns almost every vehicle around and makes the '???' smaller.
  • A,S,D,W, - Moves the map.
  • "-","+" - Zooms in and out.
  • Arrow Keys - MOVE MOVE MOVE!

In this game, you can create levels similar to Line Rider, except this time you play on an awesome bike instead of an invincible sled. You can also choose to use a helicopter, a hot air balloon, a truck, a unicycle, a mountain bike, and a blob called '???'.

To create a level, just simply click on the open space and drag the mouse around. Tada! Now you've got a line! Create a whole bunch of lines and voila! You've got yourself a level! Now you need to give your players a reason to play this game, otherwise it's as pointless and stupid as Line Rider, so how do you do that? Simple! You add stars to the level! Simply click on the star button on the left menu and click anywhere on the stage that the player can reach. Now your audience (us!) has a reason to play your level! Also, if you want to make your level more exciting, you can add boosts, bombs, slow motion, and gravity. Experimenting is fun!

To save your level, click on the floppy disk button on the right menu, copy-paste the code, and post it in this thread. And to load levels from this thread, copy-paste the code into the "open folder" button box.

Awesome! Now you're ready to play Free Rider 2! To get you started, I'll share with you a few levels (look below) from my ULTRA, SUPER DUPER, ULTIMATE, CURRENTLY-131-FREE-RIDER-2-LEVELS-THAT-I-MADE-MYSELF level pack. In my level pack, I have organized my levels into three categories: Free Rider 2 (a 20-level set of levels that increase in difficulty as you go along), Regular (me just messing around; currently 105 of them), and Kinetic (levels that play themselves). Feel free to check them out and let me know what you think of them!

If you have ANY questions--no matter how silly you may think they are--please ask them! I am always willing to help! Whether it be how to create something specific for a level, or how to beat one of my levels, I am willing to serve, so feel free to ask!

Hi guys!

My name is Nick Hagman, also known as Nario. I am a frequent user at VGMix, The Shizz, and OC ReMix, so if you see someone by the name of Nario there then that's me. I am currently 20 years old, I mix video game music for fun and create my own original songs (both of which you can find on my website), I constantly play video games, I'm currently going to college to become an elementary teacher, and my main goal in life is to become a paid musician.

I am a huge fan of the Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Metroid, Super Monkey Ball, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Xenogears/Xenosaga, Half-Life, Pokemon, and 8-Bit Mega Man series. I am also a HUUUUGE fan of the flash game 'Free Rider 2' and have made over 120 levels for it. For some reason the creator of the game hasn't contacted me on how awesome my levels are yet.

I intend on releasing my first commercial music later this year or early of next year. It will be a rap parody and will be awesome. Also, the dude who's looking gangsta in my sig is actually me. I am in no way gangsta, though. haha

If you have ANY questions, feel free to ask them! I could answer questions all day long and wouldn't mind at all, so don't be shy!

Oh, and the reason I joined this site is because of DarkspinesSonic. I've been a humongous fan of his Sonic 2006 videos on YouTube--in fact, I've almost gotten all of the achievements for the game because of his videos--and he mentioned this site once and so here I am!
