Do I know you MK?  You seem familiar, and you seem like you've been here longer than I have.  Yet you only have 20 posts.
As for the chart splitting ... definitely don't set Sonic 3 entirely on its own.  It removes the Knuckles charts, and the level select for Sonic 3 is a PAIN.  I don't know about splitting Mushroom Hill 1, but if you do that, then a fair number of other levels need splitting as well - Launch Base 2 comes immediately to mind (without S&K, the Eggmobile cutscene doesn't pause the timer, and the absolutely annoying end-of-Sonic-3 boss is intact).  I think there's also an issue with Carnival Night but it escapes me at the moment.

Aww, it's okay, SkyLights, it'll be okay.  Tikal will make everything alright.

I ... don't get it.  What is so good about this image GS?

I'm waiting for Crush Wii ... <.<  >.>

And, now that I finally got to see the video, Final Destination looks AMAZING.  And the end was just ... wow.  I was surprised about Sonic's recovery; everything I heard mentioned the spring and he only used it once....

I ... don't think they're buying them for Brawl.  I think it's for scalping.  Seriously, a month ago they were impossible to find as well.

I think Chaos 2 works a lot better by abusing Maximum Heat.  I think that was my best time....

Gaming and Grazing / ITT we help get music
« on: February 16, 2008, 09:19:21 am »
Hokay, so.  Here's the deal.  I really like video game music.  I have a number of computer games with good music that I would like to extract from the game for use in an audio player.

The problem?  I have little idea what these files are and less of an idea how to run them.  My goal is to convert them into MP3, OGG, or WAV files.  I know Guncam can extract played audio and convert to WAV, but I'd rather have just the BGM and no sound effects.  However, this does mean that all I need is an audio player and I could capture the music from that.  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm currently looking for SND and SD3 players/converters.  Just to point out, these particular files are at least 5 years old.  There are many other files but those are the only ones I remember at this moment.

Oh yeah, and allow me to remind you that my budget is $0.  So yeah, freeware would be awesome, shareware less so but could work.

EDIT: No, the SND files don't work in QuickTime.  I already tried that.

Before I have a chance to comment, could someone please tell me the full story of what happened at the Olympics?  I've heard plenty of bits and pieces but I don't really understand what happened.  I have no idea who this Zizou is and what role he currently plays.  Could someone experienced fill me in?  Thanks.

General Sonic / Re: Glitch?
« on: February 10, 2008, 06:12:04 pm »
EggRobo is consistently faster/more difficult to beat.  I don't know about running speed, but Knuckles definitely can't jump as high as Sonic can, and that alone makes some bosses difficult.  However, Sonic Team deliberately designed Knuckles' playthrough of the game to be more difficult, and a large part of that was more difficult bosses.  It could be that the jump height, combined with the likelihood of accidentally gliding, makes that boss difficult enough.
Oh yeah, and one of the bosses ALWAYS shows Eggman, no matter who's playing.  IIRC it's Flying Battery.

I *think* that the sitewide totals get updated on a different timetable as the stats.  I also recall there being some detail that GS was trying to fix, so the totals would be down until he has them done.

Where did that video come from?
And, you REALLY needed spoilers on that one.

General Sonic / Blue Sphere Algorithm?
« on: January 16, 2008, 09:35:38 pm »
OK, not a typical competition game.  I was looking at this:
Blue Sphere Maps (BTW Thanks Rolken for posting this way back when)
Just by the way the site seems to work, this quite obviously isn't a database of any kind.  (Besides, by the sheer number of ... well ... numbers, such a database verges on the gigabyte range.)  There must be some kind of algorithm that relates level number, stage number, password, and four level tiles.  I also noticed that it probably wouldn't take much work to make a simple flash/C version of Blue Sphere (possibly even a mobile version), and that if it was to recreate that game, the least obvious part to implement is this setup of levels.  I could actually be up to programming something like that if I have the spare time.  Does anyone here know either (1) the algorithm itself or (2) how I would find this algorithm?

Holy snap.  Did you quote something Egg?
I know it was a while ago, but I said guarantee Silver just because (IIRC) SRA has been the only Sonic game since 2006 to NOT include him, and considering that SRA contained the least number of Sonic&Friends (four: Sonic, Tails, Blaze and Marine) I can take a guess as to his chances of reappearing again here.  That plus this Blade persona (would never have guessed she was female by her appearance) seems to resemble an alternate dimensional being (I would almost say Anti-Nights....)
Oh yeah, I almost forgot:
AHHHH*fork'd*

* 11 party members total - 8 known are Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Shadow, Big the Cat

wut
Yeah, Amy twice?  (I didn't see the bold, I doubt anyone else did either.)
So we know 7.  Why Amy before Knuckles, I dunno, unless someone did their homework.  Other members?  Cream?  Omega?  Silver?  Blaze?  Hmm, that totals 11.... (and we KNOW Silver's in.)
And I never would have guessed the new character was female....

General Sonic / Re: SSBB Sonic Music
« on: January 12, 2008, 10:00:40 am »
"The Heck" comes from the fact that 06 is one of what, three games (other two are SPA and KC) that haven't appeared on a Nintendo system, and yeah that it seems disjointed from how else Sonic has been portrayed.  We've seen him use a (classic, mind you, no star) spring for recovery, use the peelout stance from Sonic CD as a taunt, and use spindash but no homing attack.  For cryin' out loud, ANGEL ISLAND is the stage theme!  It's obvious that this hints at classic Sonic rather than new, and it makes the end music kinda stick out.  I would have expected the S3K-style end music, that's all.

Ike/Link/Sonic/Samus in (I think) a Fox level (could be Metroid, I dunno).  Other than the fact that it's amusing as heck what everyone's reaction is after time is called, note the victory music for Sonic comes from - get this - the X360/PS3 version!  The heck?!?!

I did make that.  Used SkyLights sprite sheet, had to modify a few things for effect.  If he's listening, I could really use a Launch Base sheet for my next background....

I know Zeupar.  Didn't feel like bumping.
I heard somewhere that the outside of Red Mountain has a similar sequence to Mystic Cave (either 1p or 2p, can't remember).  I haven't found it yet, does anyone else know?

And, post any other music similarities.  There are the obvious S3D/SA ones (Green Grove/Windy Valley and Panic Puppet/Twinkle Park) and I read one here about Electric Egg matching His World.

Didn't mean just in the game, but remixed in general.  But yeah, Icecap or Carnival Night would work well in SSBB.  I'm again holding steadfastly to Launch Base though...
