It's great how Super Mario 64 had a pretty solid camera but most games have only done worse since.

0. The camera will actually come OUT of the TV screen, taking physical form, and will then bludgeon you to death.

(I never actually had as much of a problem with SA/2's camera as everyone else did)

Probably just as well that Sega already trashed their reputation when they stopped making good games, then.

Bahahaha, I haven't actually played either. :O

I just happened to know a bit about prinnies, but I wouldn't have made the connection if you hadn't clarified seperately in a different thread.

Thanks for the cookie anyway though.

Oh and welcome to the new guy also.

Even if it's an early build, the chances of them actually bothering to fix any problems, especially if (as I'm assuming), they're the same ones that have plagued the series since Sonic Aventure, are zero.

Not surprised at all.

I have a bunch I made on my Photobucket account, but most of them cutoff at edges and probably wouldn't look very good as actual decals, since I made them all before I actually owned the game or new how decals were displayed. Maybe a 1 pixel border would improve these. A couple are small Advance sprites that fit and work quite well, though.

Don't forget, though, boss fights use artificial intelligence. Ring boxes probably don't.
In other words, a boss is designed to react to certain moves done by the player,
and that is supposed to be known (although it is probably meant to be a bit unpredictable).
A ring box only gives random numbers of rings.

I don't know if the ring boxes in SA are truly random, but they aren't affected by anything I can see.
I almost always do homing attacks (same speed), and it's at roughly the same time (haven't checked
the centiseconds), and I already know it's not anything about the number of rings Sonic has at that time.

There's no such thing as true randomness in games or anything related to computers. In Megaman TAS people can cause enemies to drop particular powerups they need by doing very specific, frame-perfect dances before killing them. The same sort of thing will hold true of ? ring boxes in Rush and any other game that has them, but since we've come a long way since the NES the method used to "randomise" their output may be too complex to be manipulated practically.

They gotta keep reusing the same footage?

However, I actually quite like the look of this one. I remember it being mentioned earlier that Silver might have a connection to Blaze, and from the fact that they appear together there it looks like that might well be true.

That Sonic 2 ending remix seems to be a slightly different rendition of "Sweet" by Dreams Come True (yes it is a remix of the theme, but it's been around for ages now rather than being new for this is what I'm saying). F-man mentioned that there would be such a remix of this song in another thread, actually.

As I remember there are DS games that can be played on an emulator, but Rush is not one (can't get past the title screen or something).

Honestly, Rush special stages are pointless. The pause trick makes it so easy to get a perfect score that there'd be no competition, and you can't simply disallow it because there's basically no way you can tell.

I'm pretty sure that, if it is at all possible to manipulate the ? boxes in Rush, it's something that could only be done in a TAS.

I do believe there is a bit of truth in the idea of pharmaceutical companies opting out of perfect cures in order to keep the money flowing in from the consumers, though not in the form of genus's examples. I remember a while ago hearing about a new contraceptive method, RISUG, that involves a chemical being injected into the vas deferens (the tube leading from the testes) which causes approaching sperm to explode. It was undergoing extensive testing and apparently had been for a while. Almost no side-effects had been found, and the success rate was near 100% (the only time, yes, one time, it failed was because the injection itself was done improperly), as well as being long-lasting. It was even completely reversible with another injection that caused the first chemical to simply dissolve.

However, receptions for it, particularly in the US, is not as keen as it should be. I came to the conclusion that it was probably because pharmaceutical companies knew that, if they offered this, nobody would buy condoms anymore, and thus they'd stop getting so much money.

I'm disappointed it took looking into the site code to figure out that the robot was Omega.

I mean come on. :( Gamma? Please.

Yay Blaaaaaaaaaaaze. Hopefully whatever role she plays in the story won't suck or ruin her character. And that Eggman Nega thing: I don't think the "eviler looking" rollover Eggman image is evidence for his presence (since Nega wears different clothes and the eviler Eggman image wasn't, as far as I remember) so much as the simple fact that, yanno, Blaze is in it.

I guess we now know the name of that crystalline-looking hedgehog Shadow's fighting in a few screenshots, too.

I've found what you're thinking of, but I don't think it's gonna be useful: even if you launch yourself right to the top of the screen off the significant rail, by the time you get to the wall you're below the level of the top of it. :( Pity, because that would've been a beyond l33t shortcut.

In Huge Crisis 1, Blaze can cut a ton of time if she can ever make it over the one wall.  Always a few pixels short of making it.

Dude I did that already (as did Skylights but I had to tell him :P).

He seems to have found something else, judging by his comment, though! /me goes to look himself

Water Palace 1 - Neither times are going much lower unless either character can somehow jump on top of the loop that appears at around 0:30, but I don't think it's possible at this point.

Actually, you can, as Sonic (assuming it's the loop I'm thinking of). Land on the start of the rail that leads up towards the loop, going slowly, do three trail tricks, then boost up and jump at the highest point of the slope. Having done three tricks makes you go faster so that you can just about make it on-top of the loop.

However, as far as I've been able to tell it's not faster. Given that there's a big drop on the other side of the loop, going over the top doesn't save any time, and the time invested to get over it makes it slower.

I'm not sure what you're referring to about the luck in HC2. If it's the pistons, there's actually no luck involved at all: you can manipulate their sequencing by starting the level at a different point during the opening "silhouette" animation.

Hmmmmmm. I can only talk about Rush, and the competition's getting a bit out of my league lately (I haven't been playing much either), but I'll add what I can here. Since there's no TAS yet we don't know if there are any specific differences that make it completely different (like with SAdv2), so I'm kinda limited in that respect. However, it's worth noting that TAing with Blaze often involves lots of near pixel-perfect precision for optimum results (Hop Stepping at ground level and getting a massive speed boost), so TAS would probably make a more significant difference with her.

Leaf Storm 1 Sonic can go to maybe around 36.30, I think. Or maybe even lower, who knows? Assuming my route is optimal, of course. My run with Blaze was really flawed, so she can easily go under 40, with TAS probably significantly lower (sub 39 I guess).

I think Altitude Limit 1 Sonic can go to just under 2 minutes.

Bosses might end up being a totally different game with the possibility of luck manipulation.

...damn, that's really all I can add. :( I just haven't been active enough to remember how flawed my own records are. Hopefully Skylights can shine a bit more light on things, and those active in the Time Attack division can offer some suggestions there.

Joined. I'll stick up my Rush vids when I can do so from the computer that has the higher quality versions of them.

Is there anything I should bear in mind for submitting vids to Youtube? In particular I've seen lots where the sound has somehow been knocked out of sync with the video, and wonder if that's due to some issue with conversion from the initial format to whatever it is that Youtube uses.

None of mine are on Easy mode.

Wtf difference does Easy mode make anyway? :O All I know is that bosses take less hits. Honestly I've never used it for anything lol.

Games with ? boxes are practically the only ones interesting to ring attack. If you remove them, ring attack just becomes more useless, except for noobs who want to get better points easily. Look at stages such as Gamma's Final Egg. That not cool.

It's quite clear that you really haven't tried RAing (or thought about how to RA) any game other than the 3-D games. They all have mostly linear level designs (there are exceptions like Final Rush, of course), so that collecting all rings doesn't require so much route planning as games like Sonic1, 2, and 3&K, the levels of which mostly split into large numbers of alternate routes, at least some of which probably can't even be accessed in their entireity in a single run.

On topic, honestly, I hate hate hate whoever came up with random ring boxes in the first place, but I really think we just have to accept it the way it is. If we were to start making up our own rules for it because we don't like it, we'd have to do the same for Rush's also retarded and blatantly broken scoring system and completely mess up the Score Attack rankings.

God, I wish Rush was as awesome to RA and SA as it is to TA but it's not. :(

[EDIT] Oh, didn't notice there was a second page. SM hit it on the head.
