If you were around for the previous marathon, we had bonus streams or pre-shows as in stream before the marathon actually started. Anyway not all games on the list will be used >_>

It has been two weeks and there has been no reply from you, so we have nuked your stats. Might as well lock this topic.

I have updated the marathon list so please try to not edit your posts because I won't see them or remember if I have added it. If you do then let me know so I can update the list.

Something Thorn mentioned to me on IRC, plus I have done so in my post and seen it on other people's posts are donation incentives. If you guys can think of any for the games you're offering then please do so. One last thing, for future reference if you have anything else to add like more games or donation incentives, please make a new post instead of editing your original one. By tonight I will be going through them and updating the game list and I might miss them. Just to be safe :/

SDM: Well I use OBS which is free and pretty easy to use. I can help you out with that, if this goes ahead.

Something else I should've added earlier, which was I would like to try and get some stuff that hasn't been seen yet, but not necessary. Such as Shadow the Hedgehog hard mode, Sonic 06 Team Attack Amigo and I can't remember if the DLC from Unleashed was done or not.

I'd like to take the opportunity to make up for 2012 and stream S3K. I have a high-end computer built, so streaming should be a cinch.

I just need someone to show me what to do.

You're not the only one, I need to make up for last year's marathon with Black Knight :(

What would you need help with?

I can offer the following games:

1) Sonic 1 (2013) Tails or Knuckles any% (25:00)
2) Sonic 2 (2013) Tails any% (30:00)
3) Sonic CD Tails any% (25:00)
4) Sonic and the Black Knight any% (45:00)
5) Sonic Chaos Sonic or Tails any% (15:00)
6) Sonic Triple Trouble Sonic or Tails any% (25:00)

Estimates for Sonic 1 (2013), Black Knight, Chaos and Triple Trouble will go down a bit once I have de-rusted. Sonic 1 and 2 (2013) will be character war donations. I'll do a music war donation for Sonic CD. For Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble if no one else offers Sonic, I'll do a character war donation for them. If someone does offer then I would like to still do the character war donation with them.

If ASR(T) multiplayer is done again, I could take part in that.

If we can get enough people then yes it will be done again.

News and Updates / TSC Marathon 2014
« on: May 05, 2014, 07:33:22 pm »
So yeah time this was brought up again. This is to see who is interested in participating, if there’s enough interest then the marathon will go ahead. We’re aiming do this sometime in August, so we'll have about 3 months to organise it. Since the last marathon we’ve had several new Sonic games added, so it would be great to have those in. I have put the games list in here. If you don’t see the game you want to participate in, then just offer it and I will add it to the list. In your post, state what game(s) you want to speed run, what sort of run, what your estimation is and any donation incentives.

EDIT: Please offer games that are either Sonic or by Sonic Team.

71
I thought about that, but I don't know if any Sonic games have significant region differences. If there are some like that, we could potentially add another region field.

Shadow the Hedgehog. Only NTSC can do CC glitch and PAL can't.

Competition Central / Re: Emulator Proof Thread
« on: April 09, 2014, 03:27:33 pm »
Yeah it's pretty neat to use. It's only main function is to find apps, download and play them. You can't TAS on it and it has no savestate or recording function. So I use Bandicam to screen capture it.

Same as Thorn, I'll upload the videos to my youtube channel but I'll keep my AVIs for further proof if needed. I mostly record in 30 minute bursts so I rather do this, then having to upload the whole thing to an upload site. Any video with 2013 in the title was done on bluestacks.

Sonic 1 (2013) Green Hill 1 Tails 0:18
Sonic 2 (2013) Hill Top 1 Knuckles 306 Rings
Sonic 1 (2013) Green Hill 1 Sonic 20''41
Sonic 1 (2013) Green Hill 1 Knuckles 0:18
Sonic 2 (2013) Hidden Palace Sonic 402 Rings
Sonic 2 (2013) Mystic Cave 1 Sonic 263 Rings

I will eventually change the links to screenshots to videos when they are uploaded, which will be very soon. Video for Green Hill 1 Knuckles is up now.

Ok this topic has derailed so many times now especially with people arguing at each other, it's getting really stupid now. From now on post in here if you have something constructive to say about the rule, if I see any posts that don't do this I will remove them.

« on: April 05, 2014, 01:13:25 pm »
Yeah I'd really rather not ban emulation. That's a really nice convenience to have and while it is quite a shame that we have some sneaky players and some uncompared glitches, that is no reason to take away the resources from honorable players who enjoy the games they compete in but only have access to emulators.

Similarly, emulators provide a major convenience, -especially for the genesis era games-, where pre-level savestates are the norm. More explicitly, these savestates are usually for level select screens (With all chaos emeralds up and 1 super) and for starting a level with some item boxes dug up and/or glitches activated from the previous act. Removing emulation greatly increases time between attempts due to a heavily increased setup time.

@ Android question: I think we need to do some research on emulation done on android to verify its accuracy. I would be fine with emulated stats from a phone not having a video stat given the emulation is accurate (Heaven forbid one could TAS through a phone.).

I have been using bluestacks, my phone and my iPod for Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 for a very long time now and have seen no difference what so ever.

77
tbh i'd be up for seeing these charts added :) thats my 2 cents

Same and if I remember I think Mastakirby and Hyper said that they would compete in this game too.

most everyone against this its not reading/ understanding... flying fox is mad cuz some people don't have computers...

I don't know where you got the idea that I was mad. However, looking back at my post I realised that it wasn't well thought out since if you don't have a computer, you can't use emulators anyway >_> At the time I posted that a lot of real life stuff was happening at the time and I got very distracted, I shouldn't have posted so just disregard what I said earlier. Sorry about that :/

The fact is from what you have told me, you still have some points that are unaccountable for. Therefore I want you to do one of the following:

1) Use Gens+ and make a savestate from the level select screen and record a video of Labyrinth 2 showing me what you did exactly to get 64,500. Then post the giz. (video of it) in your post for this topic.

2) You describe to me again exactly what you did but in better detail and say everything. Include what enemies you combo'd along the way.

Since I do not pay attention to the score during the run..

Then how are you so sure that you didn't carry points over?

You claim that you got 2,300 score before bonuses and didn't die. However, looking at the map if you combo'd all the enemies you'll get 1,800. So where is the extra 500 coming from?

Did you die during your runs or carry points over from Labyrinth 1?

If you're claiming that you got 15 or more rings in your 64,500 run then why does your screenshot say that you collected 12 rings at the end?

Looking at what you just said I roughly calculated about 63,000. When you said had collected the 3 rings do you mean all of the 3 rings?

For Labyrinth 2 I just want to know what combos you got from the robots and any flags you got at the end. The screen shot tells me what rings you got.

These screen shots are unacceptable. When I asked for them I wanted your current stats not your new ones. So I'll make it clearer this time,  can I see proof of the following:

  • Spring Yard 2 - 51,000
  • Labyrinth 1 - 12,050
  • Labyrinth 2 - 59,400

Also can you explain what you did to get that new score on Labyrinth 2 since you beat it by a fair amount by the previous record holder?

Voting has closed and thanks to a change of vote right at the last minute, it's a tie and I have no idea which one Hyper will go for. So we'll have to wait till he's on. Race room will open around 3pm EST.
