Miles9999: Rings in the Wii version give score based on time.  go to SC6 and collect all 650+ rings, and you'll find that, at the end, you get no score bonus from them.

I believe competition is safe ^_^

RPG you fail to notice that we are the equivalent of VG sexual deviants...  You tell most people to try to get things that we do, and they might try, but they'll almost certainly give up, because of the dedication involved.

Again, I'm asking if it's chartable and you don't want it because you don't want to do it, or if it's not chartable, or what.  From what you've said it's chartable and the only reason not to is because you don't find the gameplay toward the stat enjoyable.

in which case, I vote we have S06, Hereoes, and Riders removed, and have Sonic Shuffle added immediately!

Are they trackable and do they offer competition value?

Again, we chart things that are horrible to play, so if that's the only argument...

(That said, I have the Wii version, and so am ignorant of it...  will look up vids at some point...)

Curious, FKE, why limit scores to a single continuous run?  The timer keeps going, and it only saves your score at checkpoints, so deaths will result in a lower score, not a higher one (there could easily be reasons for this, but I don't know them, I'm asking, not being a dick, damnit)

I wonder how exploitable the AI is, heh.  I remember when I first picked up MM:tPB I thought it was going to be a horrible bitch to get good times/scores... how wrong I was, after learning the game.

Regardless, someone not liking it isn't reason enough not to track it, else we certainly wouldn't have S06 or heroes on the site.

Yeah, Shadow as a game is ok, I meant heroes in my first post, for it's "Hi, you like falling through floors you said!?  GREAT!"

102
^we have S06 and Shadow charted, so I don't believe it being a barrel of dicks precludes it from being charted.

I think the 3-way split seems good, honestly, but not having to clear specials/bosses to get a total time up also appeals to me.

rings/scores can be together or apart, I don't see it mattering because it counts up and not down >_>

but hey, that's just me.

EDIT: To clarify, I think T/R/S or (T/B/S)/R/S seems the best ideas, but the full split doesn't seem to be a bad idea for the future... then again, the way SEGA designs games could easily break the site regardless >_>

Rings in CN aren't included because they max the counter, and without effort (read: purely luck) similar to Gamma's Hot Shelter.  MG1, for example, allows a maximum to be displayed because it is skill based.  I may disagree with the mindset itself, but it is consistent where applied, I believe.

Scores in CN are completely luck-based (you can't get the full time bonus, so you'd have to get a Perfect bonus, as well as all enemies (there are very few, and I can only think of two that are able to be combo'd together), and bumpers, which leads to a score based almost entirely on getting fast jackpots for variation).  Unless I'm mistaken, un-maxable rings are the only time TSC allows luck-based records (Ring monitors in various games, I believe, are the only exception to the rule.  This is outside of my realm of knowledge, and before my time, however.)

If S4 has a time over, than I agree with your assessment of CS2-3, and this should be changed immediately.  I would give more opinion on CS1, but I've yet to play the game.  I agree, however, with the S2 ruling for rings in CN, and am leaning yes (for that reason) for keeping scores out as well.

That said, if CN had a 4-digit counter and kept a time limit, it would be an interesting "how lucky do you feel?" chart, haha.

Rolk: Yeah, I wish I could be as convinced... At worst, unless I'm mistaken, the vid's would be removed, but that does little to make me less wary of it...  paranoia at getting sued, heh.

Because we are a competitive, authoritative site.  I love the idea of Speed-RAing (ya know, like SAing? or SA+ing?) but it's just a combination of two things we have already (SS times + RA).

In short: it'd be a blast, especially route planning, but it'd be hard to take it seriously.  Super Sonic 1-style TA/RA was awesome, honestly, so perhaps a hack could be made in it's spirit, and it'd be this only better, without ruining our charts?

eh, it's hard to keep it solid across games.  Consider Hyper Sonic in S3&K, in any bracket, heh.  (if you don't know why this is broken, go watch the HS TAS)

Aitamen how is this different from other people uploading speedruns?

I was referring to the posting of speedruns that one hadn't made and hadn't received explicit permission of the runner who did.  I don't believe I saw anything when I was posting my vids here that TSC has any rights to my vids, but I could easily have overlooked it for lack of caring.

Now, I don't think anyone has a right to care, or a right to worry, but the last thing I want is that someone sues TSC for use of their run in some way they didn't agree with (even if it's not and they're just money hungry... remember, I live in the US, it's not so much paranoia as hope in the view).

This was more the idea.  Just making sure that we're doing things the right way.  YouTube is Google after all...

Just wanted to ask if TSC can do this.  Legality and stuff (though I did see the "if you want it removed" thing).

I'm guessing it's taken care of, just wanted to point it out in case no one thought of it.

SB: it's certainly not *just* than your opinion is stated without reason.  I have tons of other reasons for finding disgust.

This, however, is not the time for fighting, it is a time for celebration!  A new sonic game is on the rise!

SB, seriously, I hate you dood.

Tweaker, I got ahold of S1MM with v2, and loved it to death...  when v3 came out We had shittons of competition on it, and it was fucking epic.

When v4 was released, there was also much fanfare...

but this...  this is a whole new ball game.

But I believe I can sum up everything that this makes me feel and how happy it makes me into a simple statement that everyone should appreciate.

DO WANT!

I have SSBB, and have never owned a Wii (may get one soon for Colors, as I've stated, though)

Aside from that, I own NiGHTS for Saturn (own a saturn, doesn't work), FF2 for Wonderswan, and I guess I could include my huge NES library, because I have an NES (Two, in fact), but my only working one is in a box in Texas.

General Sonic / Mistakes we can learn from.
« on: September 23, 2010, 05:20:24 pm »
Alright, goaded on by "Sonic doesn't need a story" and the repeated rant of "Why don't you do better", I've decided to compile a fair set of knowledge in the sonic universe for what a sonic game should and shouldn't be.

I figured if I'm going to give this a shot, I'm going to need a lot more knowledge than what I have, and hopefully with subjective/objective backing as well.

Also, this could be for laughs, or for pointing out variuos shortcomings of games... I didn't see anything else like it, so here we go.

Problem: Sonic moves too fast for accuracy, or too slow for enjoyment (SU/S06 "walking" for the first, Werehog for the second)
Solution: Spindash (SA/SA2 is a perfect example of this.  I can imagine this as part of the developmental stages of S2 as well "We want sonic faster... oh shit, now he's too fast... oh, spindash!")

^Ty luxxy.  I was mostly bashing on the troll's logic there.

closer to the topic, Colors looks amazing, and has support for an actual controller (as opposed to just being motion-sensor like the BS titles in the storybook series).  The gameplay and level design remain to be seen, but I remain ever hopeful.  It's like a bad relationship you don't wanna leave because the memories are awesome... but maybe... just maybe...
