Oh, I care. I was going to post that... but it doesn't work. Right? I waiting to find a working link first. (Preferably one that isn't an AMV. >_>)

I got confused so I sent you my email, but I ended up changing my settings as well

Ok, this is interesting. So do we really do moves by email? But I guess that's fine. I also see you can play in more than one game at a time. That' makes up for it.

Anyway I think I didn't join that guy's game, but the game is apparently waiting on me to do so.

what's with you all who never played Risk. I thought it was an unfortunate staple of each of our lives.

I signed up, but I'm wondering how we actually play.

Also what, is the original board copyrighted or something so we have these alterations? interesting XD

Not secure, the admins say me that isnt allowed, the site is for put your records not your friends records...

nevermind, I was just kidding.

Anyway, I guess Psyborg will have to roll back his time, or play the stage himself. (may god have mercy on him)

officially, Psyborg can put up as many of his friend's stats as he wants. As long as they're not records, there's nothing we can do.

p.s: only Psyborg can do this.

For Green/White theres also Selesneya Sanctuary

and Horizon Canopy, and Elfhame Palace, and Tranquil Garden..

Although it's worth noting about the Selesnya Sanctuary cycle... (called the "Karoos" by some players) .. that they are not quite good for fixing colors, because you can't play them until turn 2 and you can't use them until turn 3. They primary purpose of these lands is to increase your overall mana count later on. (if you played 4 lands, you have only 4 mana.. but if one of them is a Selesnya Sanctuary, then you have 5 mana)

Also, like most land cycles, Karoos are only available for "friendly" color pairs. (such as green/white, white/blue, blue/black, etc)

The 10th edition "pain-lands" and Ravnica duals are available in all 10 color pairs. (including enemy color pairs such as black/white, blue/green, etc) These are also the best ones for general purpose, since they are some of the only color-fixing lands that you can actually use the turn you play them -and- every single turn after that, and without slowing you down.

if only there is a way to pull Ward Sliver straight out of your deck...
Homing Sliver. >_>

Yea, that's pretty sweet. Lots of options.

Also, when running these kind of fetch cards, it opens a WHOLE NEW PARADIGM in deck building.

You can now run only 1 or 2 of a certain cards instead of 4, so you have that card available only when you need it. This is perfect for cards that are only good for specific situations, or just those that cost a lot of mana, which you might want later on, but don't want to be swamped with copies of in the beginning of the game.

btw SBW I meant to comment on our match, how surprised I was to see that you use Leyline against me... and how much it actually helped you!

Had I drawn a ward or essence sliver in the second game, I would have won very easily.

Unfortunately, 4 essence and 4 ward were all in the last 17 cards of the deck.

if only there is a way to pull Ward Sliver straight out of your deck... or even your sideboard..

When you rely on certain cards a lot (which in itself is not such a bad thing) it helps to use cards to find them.

Green is pretty much the color for fetching creatures. Living Wish and Eladamri's Call are the notable ones I can remember. There is also Commune With Nature which is great for nailing that 2nd turn Sinew Sliver more often.

and of course, a list of all green slivers in extended. Gemhide Sliver, Might Sliver, Spinneret Sliver.. solid stuff!

But perhaps most importantly.. no matter what deck you make next, when making multiple color decks, all you have to do is find the two-color lands for the colors you're using. In the case of green/white, these would be Brushland and Temple Garden. Just remember that in extended, there are basically just two 2-color lands for each color combination. There's always the one in 10th edition. (Brushland) and the other is in Ravnica, Guildpact, or Dissension. (Temple Garden)

Me vs. Stefan :D

Game 1
Stefan plays Watcher Sliver, exploiting my deck's ultimate weakness: Creatures with toughness higher than 3. Outlandish, but elegant. His slivers only got bigger, especially in the rear, and I was outpowered and didn't have enough kill spells.

EGG 0
STEFAN 1

Game 2
Evaluating the situation, and realizing I had a very real chance of losing otherwise, I sideboard in preparation for game 2. Out goes my discard and useless Pithing needle, and in goes more beef and more kill. I use CRIME PUNISHMENT to take out two of Stefan's creatures this game, and none of mine. He stabilizes, but I equip Sword of Fire and Ice to my Birds of Paradise, turning it from a flying 0/1 to a flying, damage dealing, card drawing monster.

EGG 1
STEFAN 1

Game 3
The game starts off with Stefan casting Pacifism on my Dark Confidant, which could make it hard for me to get rid of it when it makes me lose too much life. Worse still, the game starts off slowly on both sides, I had two 0/1 Tarmogoyfs and he is sitting with only one 1/1 sliver. This changes as I sacrifice a land and he plays a life gain spell, and after I use my Putrefy on his only sliver... now there is an instant, sorcery, land, and creature in the graveyard, so my Tarmogoyfs are 4/5, and his board is empty. I swing for 8. He makes a valiant defense by casting a sliver with protection from green, and then followed by another sliver, and another Pacifism! Unfortunately for him, I had two Crime Punishment in hand, and played a Troll and a third Tarmogoyf. Good game!

FINAL RESULT:
EGG 2
STEFAN 1

News and Updates / Re: Where are we, where are we going?
« on: December 23, 2007, 05:29:03 pm »
OK, I don't yet have a response to this topic generally, but this specifically demands response. If you are not a person who thinks the series has declined in quality since 3D, please ignore this post, I don't want this thread to get hijacked into yet another sonic quality war.

people like mike or genus or Rolken (I could go on and on on listing people who haven't even played it and have entirely based their judgment on what they've heard and set it in stone) say it "sucks".

For the past five years, the 3D sonic games have steadily declined with each new entry. When a person has played each of the four previous games, personally observed that decline, and then the fifth entry is met with literally universal condemnation by everyone on the planet who is not specifically a huge Sonic fan, it is ludicrous to suggest that connecting the dots and drawing the obvious conclusion is somehow intellectually inferior to putting your faith (in the form of $60) in Sega somehow pulling a rabbit out of the hat and defying the course of history and the obvious implications of their "It's-Only-E3-Keep-Hope-Alive" demo while basically demonstrating that every apparently sane person on the planet in fact has terrible taste in gaming.

Again, if a person is itching to defend the game after reading this post, great, go do it in another topic. All I'm saying is that to insist you need to personally experience everything that comes out of Sonic Team in order to cast judgment is as silly as the people who defend 3% presidential candidates in the final days before a vote thinking that a final bizarre surge in support will suddenly manifest a success out of a sea of failure.

That's just dumb because Heroes and Shadow were not terrible games, and Shadow was not even strictly worse than Heroes. For fans of the series, there was really no way to know that Sonic06 would follow the trend of decline... because there was none. (to us) Just because we have different views, doesn't make us stupid.

And the analogy doesn't make any sense, because it's quite literally impossibly for a 3% candidate in the final days to turn around and get elected. But the result of one game does not have any real affect on how the next game turns out. In fact, Sonic06 alone proves this, because whereas Shadow and Heroes were perfectly fine games, Sonic06 is vastly more shoddily made and goes against so many things Shadow and Heroes establish about Sonic gameplay. We would have been better off with a next gen Shadow, YOU can't tell me you would have known that the quality and design would take a drop so severely.

Game franchises go from one terrible game to a great game all the time, the more true in franchises that more games in it. (medal of honor vanguard compared to the two MoH released later in this year)

Further I guess yea if you don't value how special Sonic is, you wouldn't spend a precious $60 on it and instead get another game, like uhh GOD knows what. But umm I live and die by Sonic, and if Sonic dies, I am no longer a gamer, so YEA I think I'd buy the new 3D Sonic game. Not everyone is going to leave it on the shelf for the sole point of being an elitist, people want to believe Sonic can work, and they'll get and have fun with it when they can, what's wrong with that.

Because for every one decent member they may bring in there are a thousand morons.

you wish

I hate to reply to this only because others have said it so well already. (Stefan *nods*) But here's my take on it.

The lot of you have had this phrase or something along the lines of it so many times in this topic alone. But in my opinion that's truly what is turning TSC into a failure.

Because we are so shamelessly being elitist jackasses. The very idea of trying to improve and increase the community while unwelcoming and insulting new members just because of what they like is completely ludicrous, or maybe that's just me. It's like a small business opening up and trying to succeed with bad service and asking each patron if they are a dumbass. IMO the attitude towards new members, specifically or in general, is kind of appalling.

No matter what you guys do, you have to drop this attitude and at least act positive. All new members have to be welcomed unanimously. Anything else is turning this into a tight and very small community of angry elitists, and that will never keep this place alive. (or at least we already seem to be unhappy with that) I mean no matter what you do, put up Megaman games or whatever, if we choose to be upstanding elitists, it will still fail... especially if we still pretend to be or in fact remain to be a Sonic site at the core. (or even if we go by genus's idea straight up and have elitist standards on deciding every non-Sonic game we put up)

Hey hey no.

Take it elsewhere, this isn't the place for that type of argument.

I thought it was appropriate (and stylish, and amusing) considering my avatar.

plus magnum is an opinion ninja

Anyway, it's obvious magnum was referring to the game overall as a stinker, because it's not particularly bad for competing as far as X games go, easily better than X5 even. X6 is hardly bad, but I guess it doesn't matter what I think, as the game always seemed less popular, and for admittedly justifiable reasons.

But actually, if we go by genus's method, then it doesn't matter, since only X1-X3 would go up out of the X games, and also maybe X4.

anyway, if we leave games out, people are going to ask to have them put up. I guess what I'm saying is, if we track only good games, how would we decide what's good or not? Or maybe I should not bother asking, as it is presumably all figured out. A committee of three of you will decide for yourselves and the final decisions are indisputable. >_>

you say it as if putting up Sonic06 was a mistake, but it's not. It has 24 competitors, about the same amount as Secret Rings, and way more than Sonic Rivals. It had informed competition and was played by, among others: RPG, magnum, Psyborg, Thorn, Groudon, Skylights, ks8, me, and of course DSS. And I can't speak for the others but I for one had fun competing in it. And since it initially took so long to put up, there was a forum topic dedicated to it.

these are even older, from a megaman forum. The images are screencaps of Gundam Seed Destiny rather than handmade ms paint doodles, but the characters in this slideshow are personas of people from the community. This has plenty of in-jokes and cheesiness. But perhaps my greatest work. >____>

the second one is way longer, and if I do say so myself, way funnier too. Look for the Magic reference in this one, as well as the gay love scene:

Sonic Knuckles had really long stages but that was one of the best parts about it. They felt all the more epic. And it's especially suited for Sandopolis and Lava Reef.

Being able to beat a stage in 30 seconds is not a good quality. It just punishes me for being good. I'd go so far as to say it's bad design. And the problem with Sonic R is that it's so damn short and most of the courses are wasted/obsolete because there is always the fastest route which allows you to make laps in under 20 seconds. That is by no means a good thing. The "depth" is purely a liability.

SA2's courses are pretty linear but the problem is when they are too short. Sky Rail is a joke... being able to jump over half the level and end it in under a minute is just totally flawed.

Well I think you have to go to sealed deck generator and put in either 18 or 36 booster packs of the same set, then make a deck using those.

I dunno though. It seems like this would be at best a block format, and at worst just another sealed deck format. In my experience, tournament constructed is always the most fun, no exceptions. But that's just me, and besides, we have to think of the noobs... so yea.

I am casually interested in participating.

The scoring is broken, because you can exceed the time limit infinitely hence racking up points forever.

Are you actually sure about this? Or is it a guess based on what a review or someone said about the game.

Didn't Sega say that they were going back to Sonic's "roots" with the release of Sonic Heroes? Now, please show me where in any of the MD games you have to play as 3 characters simultaneously and switch between them in order to get through 15-minute levels.

you make it sound as if 15 minute levels is a bad thing. That's crazy. The longer, the better. Plus, heroes was epic in this regard.

Quote
Also, Sonic Genesis for GBA. Enough said.

And Rivals 1-2, Advance 1-3, Rush, Rush Adventure, etc

of course there are bad Sonic games. And yea, particularly handheld ones. But the good ones were spiffy ok. Making team-based game or 'gloomy Shadow w guns' game was pretty annoying. But these were solid games regardless...

If your point is that Sonic Team is off their rocker in general, then yea I am not denying that. Sonic series is in a CRISIS. But not everything coming out from it it crap, far from it.

Games in general are just not that good you know. Sonic stands out.

edit: oh and as for Nights, I have yet to find any compelling evidence that it jumped the shark. The worst thing I find about the game at this point is that Nights's get-hit animations seems half-arsed.
