Is it just the same notes played at a higher pitch? Or are there more notes?

Listen out intently for hidden binary noises around 0:30 to 0:36 and 1:00 to 1:06 in the original version. If you can't hear them, your ears are most likely fully developed. The original version had the pitch set an octave too high - just outside of the normal hearing range for adults, but not the 7 to 12 age range the game was aimed at. (Props to 'KingStarscream' and 'Non-existant Fire Key' from Bulbapedia for the info.)

If the next challenge is a Sonic 2 one (or one for any other Sonic title that I own), I'm in! :O

Try listening to them both again carefully, with a decent pair of headphones - although the differences are subtle, there are noticeable higher frequencies present in the original version.

I just listened to the original Lavender Town mix. I NEARLY KILLED MYSELF. I can relate. It gave me a headache.

AM I THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS NOT NEGATIVELY AFFECTED BY THIS TUNE?!!?

Who?

Do yourself a good favor and don't fritter away your time Googling that crap.

Why is it always Japanese and Chinese and otherrse that kill them selves over video games? Like seriously.

That explains why my Chinese neighbor inexplicably vanished shortly after I gave him a Japanese copy of Pokemon Red for his birthday...

Also Daniel, I find myself reading creepy pasta quite often these days. But after seeing suicidal squidward, I have never watched a full SpongeBob episode. Or, when I see him I think fuck he's creepy.

PLEASE TELL ME YOU’RE NOT BEING SERIOUS.

PLEASE.

That is all.

RPG, that mission is undeniably awesome (as is Saint’s Row 2 on the whole ^_^). Anyway, back on topic...

I hate to be a party pooper DarkAura, but the Buryman script, as proved by hacking, is not present in either the Red or Green game ROM (or any official Pokemon ROM for that matter). Although I didn’t find it ‘creepy’ as such, the Creepypasta about the Buried Alive Model is pretty good and well written (get the full story here about halfway down the page), and does have a spooky air to it.

inb4 DarkAura's going to become a Creepypasta addict!

Extra extra, get the full story here!

‘The Lavender Town Syndrome’ is another one of those daft Creepypasta tales (which we all knew was going to come about sooner or later) that popped up a couple of years ago on Pastebin. Before then, gamers were discussing the eerie theme of the graveyard town on Serebii and NintendoWorlds.net, and a remix emerged in early 2010 trying to ‘intensify the spookiness’. As ingx24 has already said, the original music is only present in the Japanese versions of Red and Green, as it was changed in the US version released two years later; this was also a point of discussion, and although the change was most likely done to prevent sound distortion, the creepypasta media suggests otherwise...

At any rate, it’s all hokum for shits and giggles, but there you go – I personally don’t see the creepy element of the song, but maybe that’s just me <_<

Good luck avoiding the ghooooost... O.O

Initially I was uncertain as to whether this topic would take off or not, but it’s been quite popular so far, so let’s keep the ball rolling!

On the whole, Elle me Dit is a nice pop song – relatable (as least in my case XD), comical, and catchy (I can’t speak French for shit, but I occasionally hum the tune to myself). So Beautiful (call it stay beeeeeeautifuuuuul oh oh oh oh if you wish) is a genuine J-pop song, and a pretty decent one at that. Ass Machine... where do I even start with this one? The fact that RPGnutter favorited it on YT just creeps me out! Also, I may as well point out to DarkAura that the man in the image in the video is doing it wrong, more so than RPG (unless it is RPG in disguise O.O). RPG’s comeback, however, was utterly priceless, and although thelonelyisland boast some classics, I candidly think that ‘Threw It on the Ground’ is their magnum opus, and undoubtedly the funniest video of theirs (at least in my opinion).

Big Stone Lake by Underground Renaissance is as smooth as it gets – its entrancing ambience almost lulled me into a state of slumber on the spot. Make it Last Forever is one of those timeless soul R&B slow jams that you just gotta love. Is it just me, or is there a resemblance between Keith Sweat and DsS? Or is it just me lol? Furthermore, the Girls’ Generation song (‘Gee’ I trust it is called) is actually alright (despite the fact that I can’t comprehend a single word from 0:41 onwards), and the choreography is good, although both the song itself and the video lead me to believe that it’s more appropriate for the opposite gender Cruizer! Not that I have anything against guys liking music suited to girls, but I presume it was more of a joke than a serious music preference of yours XD. (Moreover, those girls were pretty hot, not gonna lie bro!)

In any case, seeing as this is a Sonic site, here’s a track by DeeDeeDeeJaySonicFreak which I consider one of his finest!
DJ SonicFreak – Sonic 1 Special Stage Rap Beat
The great DJSF declared himself (with regards to the beat) “Repetitive? Yes. Jamming? Hell yeah!”. #sonic’sgotswag #likeaboss #yeslads

Earlier this evening I bumped into this old topic in the forum started by RPGnutter, in which someone linked a song that they were listening to, and then someone else replied with their opinions on the song and linked another song. This started a continuous chain of song linking and commenting, and this carried on for a good two months before the topic died down. So I thought I'd revive the idea and give it another shot – it'll be interesting to see what folks make of it now. Also, I'm going to say that each member can only post in this topic once every three days, to give everyone a fair chance. (I'll be posting in the format 'Artist – Album – Track', although it doesn't really matter.)

Without further ado, I'll get this thing going:

Daft Punk – Discovery – Voyager

Reach 1st in SG3DS

Please do this and make my day - darkstarblaze will get so pissed off! XD

Furthermore, good luck with your other goals; judging from your current stats in SCWii, you should be able to make the top 10 with ease, as well as reaching some good ranks in other titles.

HyperSonic7701 will raise his S4E2 up to 80% leadership instead of 65%

HyperSonic7701 has exceeded the 80% mark, and has raised his championship to 81.1%! Congratulations! I wouldn't be surprised if some of the other predictions have also been proved true (already), and I’m sure several of them will be in next to no time :D

Salutations my dear fellow! Welcome to The Sonic Center!

This site motivated me to fire up my old Sonic games again and breathe new life into them as it allowed me to take on new challenges and play the games at a higher level through competition.

You seem like a keen player, and I earnestly hope that you can get as much enjoyment out of this site as many of us have! :)

There will be never 2013. When 2012 ends, we'll be thrown to the year 2172, and we'll finally be able to get off this damn planet... Oh wait -_-'

Seems legit bro.

Pfffffffft, Myan calendars are so 5384 years ago. Gregorian calendars are all the rage now!

Anyhow, I’ve altered my previous post in this topic, rectifying my thick miscalculation that Groudon199 auspiciously spotted, as well as tweaking some of my previous prophecies. I’ve seen other people posting predictions concerning their objectives and aspirations, so I thought I may as well be trendy and do the same. Here are some personal goals of mine which I hope to have met by the end of next year (several of them unrelated to TSC):

Accrue ≥80 Sitewide points by the end of 2013 (I’m feeling ambitious man!).
Become yellow-ranked (or better!) overall for ≥5 games on the site.
Increase my game total on the site to ≥25 (by submitting stats for four or more games).
Raise my forum post aggregate to ≥250.
Elevate my kick count in the IRC channel to ≥20 :P.
Change my forum avatar at least 5 (more) times (whether I rescale them appropriately or not).
Develop my chess skills. (What more can I say...)
Improve at running, swimming, badminton and table tennis!
Get decent grades in school (and if the present curriculum doesn’t change radically, it shouldn’t be a difficult task).
Get a best time, ranking world class (according to the WSSA), for each of the three official speed stacking competitive sequences (the 3-3-3, the 3-6-3 and the Cycle). Currently I’m not far off...
Find a new gf <_< (*obligatorily joins the club*)
Become a member of The Flat Earth Society
Force a spoonful of unadulterated cinnamon down my throat to gain more popularity on the intarwebs.
Become a brony because everyone else is doing so.
Bake a TSC-themed cake and post a picture of it in the forum when TSC turns 10 years old (and it will, brainless apocalypse advocates!).

tl;dr – I want to get better at stuff. I may add more ambitions to this list later on if anything else happens to spring to mind, but I’m fairly satisfied with it at present.

First of all, Sonic Dimensions, as far as I know, is a fan-game, and therefore has no affiliations with Sega.

Secondly, predictions for 2013 (off the top of my head):

bertin will get more Site Pts than Thorn and become #2. :O
Combo will get >550 Site Pts.
Gamepro011 will become 5th overall (or better) in Sonic Heroes, and possibly get into the Top 10 Sitewide.
Paraxade will beat Cruizer.
Groudon199 will beat FuzZerd.
Dashjump will get into the Top 15 Sitewide.
SonicandInuyasha will get >400 Site Pts (and hopefully beat SkyLights).
Werey will definitely get into the orange zone Sitewide (and hopefully beat maggot).
danieldude will get >80 Site Pts!
Flying Fox will get >350 Site Pts (and possibly beat SkyL too :O).
RPGnutter will breach the 500 Site Pt mark and, fingers crossed, get into the red zone Sitewide!
darkstarblaze will get >50 Site Pts, maintain 2nd position in SG3DS and get into the Top 15 overall in Sonic06 (she insisted that I make predictions for here lol).
DsS will still be #1 :P

Many of TSC's main members aren't very active in terms of competition anymore, making it slightly harder to make predictions, but I guess by the end of next year we'll see how accurate our predictions are! I look forward to seeing other people's predictions. Also this post was done in a quick rush; I may post some more predictions tomorrow when I have time.

EDIT: Excuse me for the foolish mistake Groudon199; I've now amended the post so it makes sense! (I've also modified some of my other points slightly after further consideration.)

Information Kiosk / Re: Sonic 3 - Freestyle (Overall)
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:17:55 am »
The Freestyle charts aren't supposed to count towards Site Points - they're just charts which enable players to compete using tricks, skills etc. which aren't allowed in the regular charts. That's why everyone gets 0p for Freestyle, so as not to affect the other charts.

ITT Werey is being obscene XD.
Anyway, I think we should all now keep the content of this topic strictly to the subject of BLACKSTAR's new membership and his queries!

Also Cruizer says welcome to TSC!

God we sound like a hotel >_<

Don't be anxious about security BLACKSTAR, as TSC isn't dangerous at all - Thorn is a guard like no other. He keeps this place safe at night by scaring off suspicious characters he spots lurking about the premises with his terrifying beastly wroar, which causes them to scatter for miles around.

Hiya Folks / Re: n00b here
« on: November 16, 2012, 02:04:52 pm »
Welcome to TSC!!

Don't worry about being a n00b, because we were all n00bs at one stage (and in fact I still consider myself somewhat n00bish!). Although I'm not very experienced myself with Unleashed and Generations, the site boasts many skilled players who should be willing to help you out. The best advice I can give you is to watch the videos on the site (and read some guides) to make yourself familiar with speedrunning routes, techniques and strategies, to ask around in the chat-room and forum for hints and tips (don't worry, most of us are nice, but be cautious of the ravenous Thorn), and (most importantly) to keep practicing! In future, if you decide to compete in other Sonic titles which I own, I may be able to give you a hand in some areas.

Finally, enjoy the competition, and I hope you have success in the rankings! You seem like an eager player, and forgive me for posting cheesy quotes, but "Believe you can and you're halfway there" - Theodore Roosevelt. Good luck! :D (Also Thorn is a nice guy, the beast thing is just an immature inside joke that came about during the marathon XD.)

TSC Race Night / Re: Unofficial Race Night 1
« on: November 13, 2012, 01:46:16 pm »
The 2010 release of Sonic 2 Retro Remix features a 'Classic' mode, which, as the name suggests, plays like the classics; it simply requires the player to complete each act to proceed to the next and eventually beat the game. (No Special Stages are available, and some acts from Adventure Mode aren't in the level progression.) Download it here - I've beaten it a couple of times myself and it's definitely worth a shot. I think that racers will generally prefer to race the Classic mode of the game, but in the long run it's up to them as to what goal is decided on.

Damn, ninja'd by Thorn! (Also this post is mainly directed at the other racers; Thorn created the hack along with DNXDelta so I'm pretty sure he knows what the Classic mode is :V.)
