Chronicles was good but not great. Too easy and way too short. While the 3d side has been in decline, the article ignores the 2d stuff, which in general has been consistently good. Having just got Unleashed last week, I can say that it's WAY better than that POS Sonic 06 with its excessive glitches, shoddy controls, load time sandwiches and out right refusal to patch the bloody thing (really, a good patch is all that game needed to be good.

I don't see why so many people like SA2. Based on a "Sum of its parts" perspective, its a stinker. Of the four types of game play, the speed sections are fun, the shooting stages are clunkier versions of Gamma stages, the hunting stages are utter garbage (worse than SA), and the driving is bad. All of this with an even worse camera. Take the average of each game play's quality and you have a bad game.

If ni gets replaced with rapscallon, we still have to have his first line be "snoPING AS usual, I see" to keep with the usage of internet memes.

Perhaps instead of being thrown off the cliff, Silver makes the heads of people who don't get the third question right could blow up, followed by a sound clip of "Your head asplode" (see Strong Bad emails for reference).

This just in. The US version of Disgaea 3 DLC is availible now. Nekomatas, Adell, and Rozalin are availible. Zetta, Pram, Taro, and Hanako will also be availible soon.

A special edition of Phantom Brave is being made for the Nintendo Wii. I saw an image of some one who looked like a dark skinned Marona in the background. I have a theory that an additional 'dark side' path in the vein of Soul Nomad's demon path might be an unlockable feature in this Wii Make. The thought of someone like Marona snapping is a scary one after all the evil stuff Revya does in Soul Nomad's  demon path (ie, some REALLY EVIL stuff).

Pre orders for Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero start on January 9 via Rosen Queen Company (the NIS store). Here's to hoping that a Prinny suit will be availible for purchase in the future.

I though of some more ideas. The Black Beast of Aaaaagggghhh! represented by either Black Bull (The Black Bull of Aaaaagggghhh!) or that whale that seems to hate Sonic (The Land Whale of Aaaaagggghhh!).

Maybe I'll get lucky and RKA and Sparkster will come out on the VC. We got Star Tropics, a rather obscure but fun game from Nintendo, so there's certainly the possibility of other obscure games (cough Demon's Crest) coming out.

Almost forgot. You can find orbs to get more people in the hub (talk to the spirit that's the same color as the orbs). 4 of them are in the 2nd training misson. One of the orbs unlocks a rather lazy Save Prinny, another unlocks a ninja. Some of the Prinny animations are really funny, such as honking a horn (the ones with rubber balls attached), sleeping on the job, and even sitting in a desk reminiscent of Lucy's psychiatric help booth in Peanuts.

Unfortunately, I never played Sparkster. http://psp.ign.com/articles/938/938204p1.html The IGN hands on with the US version of the game. The stages are named Nether Grass Lands (ruled by The Gourmet Ogre), High Tome Forest (Mage Knight Sisters), Death's Watch Tower (the Curse Dragons are named Basil and Cherival), Demon Sea Aria (Nekomata or Warrior), Magma Hideout (Magma Dragon), and Moab Fortress (Orc in vehicle). It seems someone stole Etna's sweets and now the Prinnys are sent to get ingredients for the Ultra Dessert, something thats errr, dangerous. The difficulties are Standard (complete with the Prinny making a comment about it being perfect for "casual" gamers) and Hell's Finest.

I voted for Rouge (lots of them) to be the slutty nuns and changed my vote for Vanilla to be "The Witch". Ideally, I'd like this to be in game only (preferably canon games only), as it is TSC policy that fan characters, fan fiction, and Archie Comics Sonic are too lame for this place.

Sure, though the killer rabbit doesn't talk.

We still need someone good with Flash to build the cartoon. (We're still in the very early development stages of this.)

Sample piece of dialogue I've come up with.

"Sir Shadow the Brave. Lady Amy the Pure. Sir Vector the Not Quite so Brave as Sir Shadow. Who had nearly fought the dragon of Angor. Who nearly found the computer room of Bristol, and who had personally wet himself at the Battle of Batton Hill. And the appropriately named Sir Not Appearing in this Game.

When we're done with this, we should post the file here at TSC and a copy on You Tube.

General Sonic / Black Knight parody internet cartoon
« on: December 10, 2008, 08:14:39 pm »
RPG, myself and a few other people are coming up with a hilarious idea to spoof the Black Knight. Basically, its an internet cartoon with Sonic characters playing roles in a Monty Python and the Holy Grail esque cartoon. We need someone with Flash skills and some suggestions on who should play what role.

Sonic: King Arthur
Tails: The smart knight
Knuckles: The patsy
Amy: Sir Gallahad
Shadow: Sir Lancelot
Vector: Sir Robin.
Black Bull of Aaaaagggghhh!: Black Bull

We need characters for the French Guy, Black Knight, three headed knight, peasants (minstrals as well), the guy who escorts the knights to the killer rabbit (Tim), the guard at the bridge of death, doomed historian, knights who say ni, etc.

Votes:
French Guy: Silver (1), Egg Man (1)
Black Knight: Espio (2), Omega (1)
Killer Rabbit: Cream (2)
Knights Who Say Ni: Egg Man and robots (1)
Bridge of Death Guy: Tails Doll (1) Silver (1)
Minstrals: Chao (1)
Head Minstral: Charmy (1)
Three Headed Knight: Big (1)
Doomed Historian: Chip (1)
The "Witch": Vanilla (1)
Tim: Blaze (1)
Sir Not Appearing in the Game: Fang (3)
Slutty Nuns: Rouge (1), a whole bunch of em. (Like that part with 100 Jack Sparrows.)

Voice Actors:
Amy and possibly Silver: Donna
Egg Man, Shadow, and Black Knight: Ice Man

Edit again: Added more votes (including more of mine)

« on: December 10, 2008, 03:25:32 pm »
If 5-4 is the level with a bunch of Nekomata and Succubi, then there's a real easy way to kill them. Since the entire stage is invincibility panels, simply let them waste their SP on you while invincible, then once everyone's out of SP, disable invincibility and wail on them, as without special attacks, they lose MUCH of their killing power. You should be around level 16-19 before going into 5-5 though.

The fast EXP levels I'm aware of are as follows: 1-1, 4-1, 7-1, 11-1, and 14-1. BTW, Disgaea 2 and 3 are MUCH nicer in terms of leveling up as they give you tons of tricks to level up faster. On the D3 matter, December's DLC (Japanese version) has just been confirmed. Kurtis (human and prinny form), Vyers (monster) and Plennair. My prediction for January (the last month) are Fubuki, Eclair, Ash, and one more character/class.

I'm prepared for the OoE ass kickings. I play Mega Man Zero a lot and Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? so I'm used to getting my ass kicked by a cartridge, unlike Sonic who seems to not expect getting his ass kicked by a book.

I also hope I get a Sentinel or two. (A Sentinel is an Imperial Guard bipedal mech similar to an AT-ST). Man, I'm so close to completing my 8000 point Imperial Guard/Grey Knight army. All I need is a total of 6 Sentinels (over time of course), and some planes.

I feel sorry for you dood. Your parents need to accept that there's nothing wrong with a girl liking guy stuff. If you REALLY want to toy with their heads, I suggest getting into WH40k (Orks as they're the most macho faction ever) or some other really macho/nerdy hobby. For the DS, you can't go wrong with Disgaea (though its not for everyone) and its wacky game play (complete with fighting inside a world contained in a piece of cotton candy), acid tongued/snarky humor complete with ultimate zombies (don't ask), and irresistably cute Prinnies (winged penguins that blow up when you throw them) dood.

Don't worry about having to import. NIS America confirmed that the US version of Disgaea 3 will be receiving the DLC as well (NIS tends to treat its American fan base really well. Mid-Boss will most likely be a monster character (most likely MChange is spear since this makes sense when you figure who he was).

Can't comment on a RKA comparison (trying to recall what that stands for). You can't attack during the dash, but your running speed and jump distance are improved significantly.

Another interesting caveat. The level design for the game's 6 opening stages (you can tackle these in any order) changes depending on what time of day (determined by the order you take them) you enter the level at. Sometimes even the boss changes. For example, going to the beach stage 4th rather than 3rd causes you to fight a male warrior instead of a Nekomata as the boss. Taking the 2nd stage 5th causes you to fight a rather psychotic red mage (female) instead of Mage Knight sisters. There's a battle with all three sisters if you take that stage at a specific time.

Be warned, the golem after the opening 6 stages is a bitch to fight. The game comes to America 2/17/09, a week after my birthday. Rats.

Sorry, no Mid Boss in this game. As a consolation prize, its starting to look REAL likely that Vyers will be PLAYABLE in Disgaea 3's (japanese veresion) DLC. He'll either be in the December DLC or January DLC. The Prinny himself has just become playable as part of November's DLC (along with Gig, Revya, and the Disgaea 1 dragon class).

Cameos confirmed thus far are Asagi (in a Prinny cosplay costume), Prinny Laharl, Prinny Baal, Aramis (the ultimate zombie guy who is playable as of Octorber's D3 DLC), and even a bonus boss fight with Etna.

Actually, the game does have G&G air physics. The implementation is FAR less annoying though. You can do your second jump any time you want, the butt pound helps you not over shoot a jump, and the Prinny is far more agile than Arthur, being able to grab onto ledges. In addition, NO random spawning enemies, which turned G&G into a luck based ordeal with excessive trial and error. I hate G&G and am still shocked that people actually like that over rated, clunky POS.

Fought a magma dragon (he's HUGE) and an orc on one of those Jelly fish like vehicles.

Gaming and Grazing / Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero?
« on: November 22, 2008, 01:44:49 pm »
I got the Japanese version of the game yesterday.
-Story: Etna sends a Prinny on a quest to get sweets. In the intro, you see Prinnies being tossed out of Laharl's castle (guess who)? The advertisment for this game is that "it's so hard you get 1000 lives <3".

-Gameplay: Square attacks (weak but SUPER fast). Aerial attacks are Prinny Barrage. X jumps. Jump controls are like Ghouls and Ghosts, only without the major suckage (thanks to a butt pound move, you can stop your jump at any time). Holding O causes the Prinny to spin around. If you release after he starts to glow, he runs really fast. Hold too long or release too early will cause him to get dizzy in an embarassing way. You can even charge while moving, but this move seems like a spin dash without the attack property. Triangle picks up objects and pressing it again tosses them. You can also ride vehicles. Let's just say the Netherworld comes up with some weird vehicles, such as a tank with hands with a turret mounted plasma cannon, a springy thing with a big machine gun, and a jelly fish like thing with a 360 rotating laser gun.

-Bosses: So far I've run into 5 bosses. A unique Gremlin, some big fat green thing, Mage Knight sisters (you fight both of them), a pair of death dragons (male and female each with different tactics), and a Nekomata.

Actually, the GI score was 6/6.5. The second score was for the Wii. Focused much of the review (and the score) around the were hog.
IGN gave this a 7.2 (Wii version).

Based on hands on impressions, I'm going to predict that SU will receive an average score of 7.5 give or take 3/4th a point. The day levels have received nothing put positive impressions so far. Based on game play footage, the were hog sections don't really look that bad at all. Competent but not stellar.

How exactly does one turn the Khorne Berserkers into World Eaters? I saw some shoulder pads for World Eaters on the site, but I dunno how that stuff works.
Besides from the shoulder pads (super glue those on their arms since they're metal) all you need to do to turn Khorne Berserkers into World Eaters is to simply give them their proper color scheme. You don't even really need the shoulder pads if you don't want to use them. (In an earlier post, I posted their color scheme.) Under the three color paint pallette, Color 1--> Color 2 --> Color 3; color 1 is the shade coat (you use this as the base coat). Color 2 is the primary color (you paint this over the base coat but leave the base coat in the recesses). Color 3 is the highlight color. For shoulder pads, the base coat (red gore) you leave a slight line next to the bottom trim. The Blazing Orange (need to check if Macharius Solar Orange is darker) goes next to the trim in a half circle pattern as a thin line. Check the painting miniatures book as that will teach you most of what you could possibly need to know about painting, shades, and high lights.

-Edit: Some tactics. In general, you will have the advantage in assaults as you will get 3 attacks (add 1 for twin weapons) as your base number. WS 5 means that you will hit most enemies on a 3 and Furious Charge makes them faster and stronger when they charge. They are very good at close combat, but there are still some units you might want to heed caution towards. NEVER get in assaults with Genestealers (a raptor like Tyranid Units with four arms) as their incredible speed (even faster than you despite furious charge) and rending rule will tear through anything in close combat. Thankfully, they have light armor so most weapons deny them armor saves in the shooting phase. Do NOT engage Grey Knights unless you're doing the charge. They they charge, their WS 5, Strength 6 weapons will eat you alive. GK terminators are worse, generably considered one of the most terrifying assault units in the game thanks to their S 6 weapons being power weapons. I should know, I use them in my 2000 point Imperial Guard army (Ig can take Grey Knights as allies) and I once killed 2 15 man squads of Chaos Space Marines single handedly with a 8 man GK termie squad in 2 different assaults (this was in a 750 point Tau and 750 point GK team versus 1500 point Chaos game I played with my Chaos playing brother on his birthday). The Daemon Prince in particular will have problems as all GK units have special rules that give them advantages against Daemons. Don't assault Howling Banshees unless you get the charge because their speed will give you trouble.

Once you start going for 1000 point games, I would buy a second box of Khorne Berserkers, giving you three 8 man squads. Only troops can capture objectives now, so you should have at least three troop choices in 750+ point games. Buy some Rhinos since speed is VERY important to assault armies. You can also use a tactic called "The Wall" against swarms of Gene Stealers if need be (more on that later). IIRC, you can also assault the same turn you disembark from a transport as long as the transport moves no more than 6" that turn (max speed is 12" a turn, much faster than on foot). I would give the rhinos either a combi flamer or a havoc launcher. From there I would expand into fast attacks or heavy supports. If you desire a fast attack choice, I'd go with Chaos Bikers (with Mark of Khorne of course), as they move very fast across the table and are great for flanking maneuvers. If you desire the Heavy Support route, go with a Chaos Predator. For a reasonably cheap point cost, a twin linked lascannon/heavy bolter sposons route is very reliable, giving you much needed anti tank options and a way to keep swarms under control, giving you some more shooting options to give your berserkers some cover fire. Almost forgot. Give the Daemon Prince a Mark of Khorne.

-Edit again: Attached is a sample World Eaters army list (merely an example of how to play such an army, not set in stone). Kharn the Betrayer is a must for a 1500 point plus Khorne army as he is one the best units in the entire Chaos Space Marines codex. He's also a World Eater, so he's very in character with this army. Despite his draw back risk of ally kills, do have him join a squad of Khorne Berserkers as they give him a nice meat shield and on average you'll only lose one Berserker due to ally kills a round. He hits ANY enemy unit on a two, eats tanks for lunch, and wounds most other things on a 2, so he's worth it. Also VERY cost effective.

I've finished the head (my green stuff skills suck so it will be missing two of his six horns, but the angles of the others are perfect) and his right arm (no shoulder pad yet). Here's a prototype custom data sheet on how to play as Eliphas the Inheritor. Pictures later.

-Stats: Same as a Chaos Lord.
-Points: 165
-War Gear: Frag and Krak grenades, Accursed Acrozium, plasma pistol
-Special Rules: Fearless, Independant character, Demagogue ability.

-Accursed Acrozium: This is a daemon weapon that also counts as a icon of Chaos Undivided and gives the user a 4+ invunreble save.
-Demagogue Ability: All units within 6" of Eliphas the Inheritor become fearless.

Don't worry, its only a necro post if its been more than 30 days.

I play DoW casually. Fun game with Chaos Lord Ephilas being just awesome. In fact, I'm working on a conversion project using bits from Chaos Space Marines and an eventual Chaos Lord (with some bit ordered Word Bearers shoulder pads) purchase to make a Chaos Lord Ephilas model. I intend on this being a Christmas present for my Chaos playing older brother (its going to be fully painted and assembled as the gift. He's part of the Word Bearers legion, so my scheme is going to be scab red->magenta ink (with scab red in recesses)-> red gore (armor), boltgun metal->chain mail -> mithril silver (trim), desert yellow -> bleached bone -> skull white (decor). When he's done, I'll have pics and a custom data sheet for rules on how to play with him.

@Pidgey. I have advice on how to reduce the costs of the hobby. 1. Progress slowly. Take your time growing your army. 2. Plan ahead. Determine what kind of play style you like before making your purchase. 3. Buy a battle box. These sets are an excellent value and allow you to get a bunch of stuff at once for a comparatively low cost.

The absolute cheapest army availible is Chaos (World Eaters). You can have a decent 500 point army for about $80 (not counting paints, just models) if you buy a box of Khorne Berserkers (one choice of those guys is 5-20 but a box comes with 12) and a Daemon Prince (order a set of Baelrog wings to make him really nasty). Make 2 Skull Champions (they dont have helmets) and give them plasma pistols. As for paints, you'll need Red gore -> Blood Red -> Blazing Orange (armor), Brazen Brass -> Shining Gold -> Burnished Gold (trim), black primer, boltgun metal -> chain mail (weapons), and some browns for the belts. This is a VERY melee orientated army, so it won't be for everyone.

Don't worry about being a  bad painter. Everyone starts out like that. I was pretty bad (I still suck with organic stuff,  I'm more into vehicles, armor, and weapons) when I started. I went back and re painted my whole IG infantry before Games Day. Remember, thin your paints. It makes the pigment much nicer. Get a paint pallete, put some paint on it, and apply water with an eye dropper. 50-60% paint for non metallic colors and 65-75% paint for metallic colors. The painting miniatures book REALLY helps.
