Definitely reserving judgement on this for now.  I will be getting a PS3 though (MGS4 ftw) so I'll likely get this too anyway :)

Meh screw the format. Quintuple posts don't deserve it. :(

But I was mighty pissed today. First I get on and find out that I LOST MY 4TH PLACE IN ADVANCE 2 to QUARTZ. I knew he was getting close already and greatly improved my Music Plant 2 times, but when I found that he was a few points ahead of me, I went into overdrive. I started to SERIOUSLY ring attack.

And after completing all of Leaf Forest in RA mode, I have the record for Knux on act 2! :D

But that wasn't all. Douglas came back with a vengeance, with an improved IP2. He "blew" past my 45:12 with his own 45:00, which I swear he could improve given he used a couple of easy time/speed savers. But I digress. Because I blew past his with my own 44:83! I knew sub-45 was possible considering I vaguely remember screwing up something in my 45:12 run, and this proves it. Tis pretty good; I'm not sure how much better it can get sans TAS.
Damn you, I wanted to be the first to break the 45 second barrier.  Well played though, must've been a sweet run.

Don't think it's over yet though :)

Um.

What level in Sonic 1 is supposed to be a city? Spring Yard? Scrap Brain? Star Light? None of those looked anything like the city in that shot.

And I want to mirror what eggFL said about the idea of this being a remake of Sonic 1 being just fan speculation. Seriously, when did Yuji Naka say, explicitly, "This game will be a remake of Sonic 1"? As far as I remember, he said it was going to be a reinvention of the franchise, not of that one specific game. People just took what he said the wrong way and it's spiralled from there.
I think the point is more that a Sonic 1 remake - done well - would own, and hence we'd like to believe it.

"Urban setting" is stretching the originals though, I always thought of the mecha-cityesque levels more as Robotnik's base (especially Scrap Brain).  But hey, let's keep the dream alive a little longer, eh?

Yeah, but . . . GameCube wasn't as outright moronic as Wii.

I just hope those enemies don't have the same glass jaw the original badnicks had. I personally like fighting enemies that "have teeth". (Phrase meaning that they're nasty and tough to destroy for those who don't know what it means.) Maybe this game will be a lot more difficult than the other 3D Sonic games. Shadow was still too easy except for a few certain moments.
Shadow has a certain difficulty that is entirely based around the many infinite falls and the slightly awkward control system.  The problem is it's frustrating difficult not fun difficult; hopefully Sonic Next won't suffer from that and will have tough enemies, altough I'm reserving judgement.

"wii wii." (You know, like 'oui oui')

As in maybe. I'm still considering PS3. But meh. It looks so COOL.

But wii wtf. Revolution > Wii.
Considering the PS3?  What's to consider, it'll have MGS4.

</fanboy>

What, I love MGS >_>

Depends on the games.  I'll likely still call it the Rev though.

There goes my secret: I slow down time to win.  Damn, now I'll have to start obeying the laws of physics on speedruns.

The best thing about this guide is: there's three of it!  Hooray!

Thank you Chaos Vegeto (or perhaps Captain Obvious would be more appropriate).

Ayrton Senna won the 1993 European Grand Prix for Maclaren; he was miles ahead of everyone as I recall.  I know this because I'm a total F1 nerd (haven't missed a race since 1992!!).

Competition Central / Possible Overall Rankings ideas
« on: April 24, 2006, 07:06:02 pm »
You mean add up a player's percentage ratings for each game?  That's fairer on a per-game basis, but it takes more effort to get highly ranked in a game with loads of charts and that wouldn't be reflected under that scoring system.  Perhaps a fairer basis for comparison would be between games of the same type; maybe a 16 bit champion, an 8-bit champion, a GBA/DS champion and a 3D champion?  Then weight the "TSC Championship" on those categories.

I doubt there's a "fair" way to do it that'd suit everyone; it was just a random thought.

Competition Central / Possible Overall Rankings ideas
« on: April 24, 2006, 07:29:04 am »
On a slightly random note, with the current points system, would it not be possible to see who had the lowest score overall?  Like a TSC Grand Champion *shot*

Obviously games with less competitors/stages would be weighted less so it wouldn't be reflective of people's different skills, but I reckon it'd be interesting anyway.

#2 periodic?  Blimey!  Congratulations to everyone, and kudos to RPG and mike for running this in the first place.

Also dead right about Aitamen for the effort that went into the S2 score records and some mighty SS ring counts, as well as awesome times.

Now to start my assault on the next set of rankings ^_^

I'd say Crowbar, but the fact he's only competing in Rush will likely hurt him.  Also a shame SBW isn't on the list; top drawer player (especially IP2) and definitely my pick to be high up next time.

I call BS.

Seriously, I thought I might make the periodic, but I thought my lack of depth in competition would keep me out of the universal (reaching close to the top in multiple games is waaay harder than taking a single championship).  I also thought I'd get a tagline like "Fails at nicknames" or sommat if I was in :)

Also: RPG is the greatest.  Take it easy man.

Okay, so apparently its single character only.  Having redone all my Sonic levels I'd like to ask that this gets included in the official rules so nobody makes the same mistake as me.

Wikkity! / Is video-making legal?
« on: April 08, 2006, 06:18:30 pm »
I don't know how it is in the States, but over here we have "fair use" clauses which say you can use a certain amount of content (can't remember the figure but it's like a couple of percent) for things that don't negatively impact the original product (it was originally brought in so literature could be quoted).

Not that anyone would sue speedrun makers if they've any sense; communities surrounding games is marketing you can't buy.

Competition Central / Help with videos? :(
« on: April 03, 2006, 09:38:18 am »
It's possible you haven't compressed the audio stream (that's what I did when my vids were huge).  Try removing it (Streams->Stream List then Disable) and see what that does for your file size.  If it is that, you can remove it, compress it and re-attach it to the video in that same panel.

Another thing to try is Ctrl+R (or Video->Frame Rate), then under Frame Rate Conversion try Decimate By 2.  Reducing the frame rate usually gives watchable video at small sizes.

The rule has always been that Sonic or Tails alone must be used, why should that change now?

Sonic 2
Any re-released version of this game (official or unofficial) that has been modified to create a functional change to level layouts is not allowed.
Knuckles's levels require Sonic & Knuckles to be attached.
Super forms are not allowed.
The level select code is allowed.
The only button that may be pressed when the game is paused is Start.
The debug code is not allowed.

Ring Divisions
Entering a Special Stage with Sonic or Tails is allowed (but not advised, since it resets your rings to 0). With Knuckles, it isn't.
I don't see where it says that CF.  I know it says "Sonic" on the rankings, but I was under the impression that people were using Tails for that as well as both.

If using both (without controlling Tails) isn't allowed, I need to redo all my Sonic 2 rankings.  If that is so, though, why didn't someone pull me up over my CN1 video?  Anyway, it could use clarification.
