Competition Central / glitches in tidal tempest act 1

I've seen speed runs for this act where sonic spin dashes and jumps onto two flying bugs and propels him into the air above the level, he then proceeds to skip the whole level. I have tried and havnt been able to get up there, how is it done? what buttons are pressed in the air at what times(do u hold back?)?
