Help w/Debug Mode

For some reason, I can't seem to get the debug/config modes working in Sonic 1/2/3/K the way that MC+ describes them.  Can someone give me a few more details?  Thanks.

My only thought would be that your A, B, and C buttons might be mapped differently than you think. If they're set to the defaults, then iono, because I never had a problem with Debug Mode in SMC+. Perhaps you're not holding Square as you enter the stage. I thought this topic was going to be the standard complaint about Sonic Gems Collection missing a C-button.

Also, this topic should be moved to General Sonic.
