General Sonic / Re: Sonic R maps.

Taking pictures from actual gameplay might not work as well, since some walls are one-sided,
and there are lots of gaps. Maybe if the PC version's courses can be extracted somehow.
Like importing the models with something like Blender, and then filling in the problem areas.
(And that would allow for easy and perfect camera positioning.)
I tried something like that with a boating simulation game, but I could only make exports work.

I try to avoid using guides, but sometimes I just have to use them. It's not cheating,
but it feels better to not use a guide. I'm in a big hurry, so I'm skipping most of the thread.

Vexx: WHAT!!!! I LOVED THAT PUZZLE!!!!! There's a pattern to it.
All the statues match but two. Step on the buttons for those two statues.
(One is at the fountain, while the other is at the edge of the area.)
Then, all the statues will change to match those two, and another two will stand out.
Repeat with those two statues.

Nonononono, wait.

First of all, about GC, you mean jumping off the dome thing above the entrance to the
Card and Pinball game, right? I remember that someone suggested that to me long ago.
I got 18 or something, and I barely tried. 15 is probably about max there, as I've said.

About DC, I meant that Sonic3Knuckles already did nearly max. I can't see 8 seconds
being possible at all, unless you mean 8.9 or something like that. But that's with that path.
What if there's another way to get through the level? I experimented with new tricks,
but they didn't work. But there's another one that almost worked by accident!
And it'll be hard to do, but if I can make it work, it might cut down my time even more.

What's that Windy Valley Tails time about? Was that the Chankast joystick glitch problem
I heard about? I can't see 17 seconds being possible. As I said, I thought about 20 was perfect.
Unless DC has some different death lines or something.
Oh, and speaking of those "death lines" or whatever (more like death planes),
I'd considered making a video of WV-Sonic a while ago, but I haven't gotten around to it.
I'm still not sure, though. If I do that, I might as well record Sonic Heroes (Egg Fleet with Rose).

So what's the result of your pondering, F-Man?

Do you think the chart should go up? Can you use your new admin powers? :D

I feel kind of bad about bumping this thread for an off-topic reason, but this is important! :P

douglas: What I mean is that making better graphics for a better system isn't always much harder.

We've got:

Detail (takes effort, and is more important on new systems)
Optimization (takes effort, and is always important, though maybe a little more on old systems)
polygon counts (takes little effort*)
display and texture resolution (takes little effort, although a High-Definition display makes good graphics necessary)
framerate (takes little effort)

Wii graphics still require a lot of detail (since it's not all that far behind,
and even GameCube needed a lot of detail to look nice), and the cost ends up being
around the same. That is, if the developers are going for top-notch graphics on both systems.
(But since Wii focuses less on graphics, developers might just assume that no one
cares about graphics, and then spend less money on them.)

*The act of increasing the quality of these things takes little effort, but
making everything fit together and run smoothly is different.

Switching back to the new character discussion, I was thinking myself that it's a little dumb
how new characters keep showing up in Mario games, and then they don't usually go away
or do anything useful. Although a lot of characters start showing up late, even though they
were much older. For example, Boo made his appearance in the late '80s with Super Mario Bros. 3,
but it was around 2000 that he started appearing in all the sports and party games.
And that brings me to another thing, which is that all the characters start out as Bowser's
minions, and they suddenly become all friendly for no reason (even fighting against
Bowser sometimes) in the spin-off games.

Blah. Probably not too well-written. Anyway, the points are there. I think.

Restating for convenience: I have Mario Parties 1, 2, 3, and 6, and Sonic Shuffle.
I can borrow Mario Party 5. I support MP6, and maybe/probably the other Mario Parties
(especially 2). Not sure about Sonic Shuffle.

Other: I have Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Donkey Kong Country 2,
Donkey Kong 64, and Mario Power Tennis. I'll probably submit a few DK64 scores,
and maybe DKC2.

Right, only administrators can upload maps. :(
I think any administrator will accept them, but I sent mine to SadisticMystic through e-mail.

I just got around to watching the Casinopolis video. I expected a new shortcut, but
it turned out that this is just a really great run, like about the lowest I thought was possible.
I still wonder if this new shortcut will work. 8 seconds, maybe?

The only thing I agreed to do was play MP6.

But I guess I can help out with stuff. Like checking on a mini-game, or whatever.
I think I have all of the mini-games unlocked in everything. MP2, definitely.

40
What is that? If the above image didn't have the Sonic Rush Adventure logo, I'd say it's
a fancharacter which is basically Cream, but as a raccoon.

Fine, as long as she doesn't get in the way with bad voice acting and slow, annoying levels.

Is it just me, or does Blaze look like Shadow in that picture? The pose, the hair, the expression.

douglas: A few little disagreements.

- High-definition doesn't cost the developers more. Neither does throwing in a few extra polygons.
(I know from experience that smoothing out a model can be as simple as clicking a button.)
Pushing the system to its limits is what would take the most effort and money.
Which is why so many games (on any system) look so-so or outdated.

- Sonic's reputation on Nintendo systems isn't that clean. SADX was a pretty sloppy port,
for example. (And I don't need to explain Shadow the Hedgehog.) All the games
have enjoyed decent sales, but most of them are criticized.

- New gameplay? Big brought in new gameplay. So did Knuckles. If that's what new gameplay is,
I'll stick with stale, old Sonic stages. In my opinion, Tails and Amy in SA were fine.
(Although Tails's stages were a little short, and Amy was too slow.)
Gamma's stages weren't bad, but SA2 messed up that type of gameplay.
So it should either be like Tails and Amy in SA, or maybe like Amy and Big in SA2.

I agree just about everything else in the last two paragraphs, though.

41
2) F-Man vs. Marth (Sonic Adventure)
There was a rivalry between Marth and I? Seriously, I frankly don't remember... I think I only competed with myself. What I do know is that Marth never got the championship. :P
Someone's got a big head and a bad memory. :P
I was about to take the championship, but then you dumped a bunch of new records in
(through all the categories) and took it right before I could.
Then, there was the rivalry with different stages. In... I think it was early 2006, I was
smashing a bunch of your records, and the top two rankings in a bunch of stages
shifted back and forth. Of course, you ended up taking a lot of them back in the end,
but I still have a couple of records you haven't been able to beat (not to mention the
stages where new players are the champs... it makes me feel like we're has-beens :( ).
So you can't say you honestly think that you were just trying to beat your own times
on all those stages, and that they had nothing to do with me. I can explain it in detail if I need to.

You're the overall champion now, and you own a lot of records, but you can't say I
haven't been able to compete with you. You'd just be fooling yourself and increasing
the size of your head and ego by saying that.

Also, I should win for "underrated player".    :(     :P

General Sonic / Re: Sonic Riders
« on: April 16, 2007, 10:44:38 pm »
XD I played riders once and got 8th place every time on the first race of the story mode :(

most impossible game ever
I got past the first two races on my first try (don't remember what my rank was), but it got harder quickly.
Some later levels, like the Babylon Garden courses, were pretty frustrating the first time.
But like other 3-D Sonics, the game got easy after I played it once.

My opinion on Sonic Riders is that the gameplay itself is just about the only good thing about it, but that it's still a fun game.

Sonic R is too short and easy, but it's also fun. And I got good at time-attacking. :P

Someone seems to have a lot of time on his hands...

I might try some of the Mario Parties or something, but I'm not really good, nor am I really interested.
I have 1, 2, 3, and 6, plus I can borrow 5. I'll probably end up playing just 6 and maybe 2.

44
Really, if anyone has any objections (besides "we don't like this stage"), I'd like to hear them.
If there are no objections, I'd like the chart to be put back up.

45
Okay, here are two ways it can be done (with more detail).

First, no rules. For GameCube players, it's as simple as submitting the time as shown on the stage select screen.
For Dreamcast players, 100 minutes can be re-added for the submission if they were removed for that screen.
And it is provable still, with a video showing the end of the stage and the stage select screen.
If the timer is maxed at just under 100 minutes during the battle, and then the time shown
on the stage select is, say, 14 minutes, it's obvious that this 14 is over 100, and so, must be 114.
Simple enough, right? There was no confusion or arguing over this in the first place.

The other way is to have a "3 times per life" rule. This makes time-freezing useful only if used properly,
since there are limited checkpoints, and only 3 seconds can be gotten from each switch on each life.
Not much trouble there. I still think no rules might be better, but this is the best rule I can think of if there must be one.

EDIT: 300th post. Also, I'm changing the subject.

General Sonic / Re: Anybody know when a new Sonic game is coming out?
« on: April 07, 2007, 04:43:57 pm »
I just know I'm going to be disappointed with the next Sonic game when it comes.
Since SADXT has a 0.0000000...% chance of happening, and SA3 has a 0.1% chance.
I won't be too angry if the next regular Sonic platformers are about the same quality as Sonic Heroes or SA2,
and have the same quality of voices as SA2, but I'd prefer something that has better gameplay than SA(1)
and exceeds SA's acting by fixing its problems like recording glitches and the occasional really bad line.
That's right, even I think SA can be beaten. I'll probably still call SA the best game ever made,
but a game that is just as fun, but without Big stages, and with more Sonic stages, would be awesome.

SADXT is the dream remake of SA that won't happen. The other one that I described
would still be nice, but it's very unlikely that it will come close to being the way I want it.
So what does have a good chance of happening? This:

Sonic the Hedgehog. Given this name to present it as another game which goes back to the roots
(or by actually taking the next downward step). In other words, to cause even more confusion,
by being at least the fourth game to have that name. Rumoured to be the last game with 4Kids
voices, since, as put by Sega, "Sonic X, the popular children's cartoon where Sonic came from,
has recently ended, and we have no reason to tie the games in with it. We'll let you know if the show begins
again, and maybe we can make some nice video games based on it, with your favourite voice actors."
With 43 playable characters, and one Action Stage for each. It is rumoured that Knuckles will have
many more rivals than just Rouge, and Big and his buddies will make a return.
This game will take Sonic back to his roots, by being the first Sonic game to take place on Earth,
and by introducing new gimmicks, such as "?" boxes, dice, a music blast attack to wipe out enemies,
a new look for each character, and a light, simple story which doesn't get in the way (or in other words,
has tons of non-skippable cutscenes, but is full of nothing and borrows junk from every other game).

General Sonic / Re: PROOF that Tails was not always supergay
« on: March 22, 2007, 07:18:33 pm »
Marth you and your crazy ideas.

Sonic06 Sonic looks the same in artwork and in-game. And he looks great, and he does not have wrists or ankles so what are you talking about. :O It's just the same Sonic just his proportions are tweaked slightly to be more well rounded and defined and shiz. It's basically just SA2 Sonic but without the flaws, when you get right down to it.

Also what's cool about it is that it looks kind of classic Segasonic with his classic smirk on the character model, and the simplicity and 3D rendered quality of the look does that, even to Silver and Shadow.

In some cases, like when Sonic flip jumps in the opening movie, or when he is shocked by the explosion in Sonic's ending, he looks very oldschool despite all the changiness.
He looks really skinny in that one picture which caused the PC version rumours. Also, in the last few games,
his lower legs and forearms have been noticeably wider. It seems to be setting a pattern (with SA2 as
the last big step).
I don't have much time to discuss this right now. Plus it's a little off-topic.

Noooooo! You reminded me of my Sonic Adventure comic adaptation thingy that I started on,
like... a year ago? Maybe more. It's old. I went back to working on it a bit last summer.
I'm up to Sonic's Casinopolis and Big's Icecap... or something. And even older is my brother's comic with my art,
which only needs to be scanned. But anyway, there are time-attack and TSC references and stuff in mine.

That's not official artwork .......... >_>
Does it matter?
(Go get us some new official artwork, if you want. And I mean like last year, not a decade ago.)

In my opinion, the character designs reached their peak with Sonic Adventure 2.
Since then, they've gone slightly downhill. The designers seem to want Sonic to look like a stick figure
with a relatively big chest, ankles, and wrists. And the others are following.
Except for Robotnik, who's now the egg man who isn't an egg anymore, but is instead trying to be a regular guy.
It's not really how it is now that bugs me (Sonic06 in-game is pretty good), but where it's going.

Quote from: Tweaker
Tails isn't gay.

Tails is a woman.
True. Mainly thanks to Amy Palant and stupid 4Kids and stupid Sega and stupid everyone.

General Sonic / Re: Terrible Sonic Quote Database
« on: March 14, 2007, 10:56:45 pm »
Other interesting ones are:
"There's no time to be listening to music!" (Robotnik)
"I hate driving!" (Robotnik)
"Heroes are wimpy!" (Robotnik)
"I'm not interested." (Shadow)

I played SH not long ago, and it really is "super power". But anyway, for quotes that are dumb or funny:

"It could be you-know-who!" (Vector, in SH)
"Hey, loog! Id's Sodic!" (Tails, in SH) *Marth adds sniffle sound*
"Pretty flower, pretty flower! Show your face or/and(?) I'll sting you!" (Charmy, in SH) I can't remember that one well.
"Thee door is locked!" (Tails, in SA2) <-- I don't see why no one seems to get that one.
"Hey, it's not his speed must be using a Chaos Emerald to warp Shadow." (Sonic and Shadow, in SA2)
"You're not even good enough to be I'll make you eat those words!" (Sonic and Shadow, in SA2)
"Oh, MAN!" (Knuckles, in Shuffle)
"Eggman again! Just what is he up to this time?" (Sonic, in Riders)
"Rotate the Directional Pad in a circle." (Tikal, in SADX) <-- EDIT
"Aww, now what am I gonna do?" (Big, in SA) This is just a cover-up for a glitch. So is "Ow!". <-- EDIT

EDIT: I just thought of the SA themes. Robotnik's theme is even better than the SA2 ones.
They include:
"How to play as that knucklehead!"
"How to play as the fat cat!"
"How to play as MY creation! E-102 Gamma!"

Also, I remembered a few mistakes in the subtitles of some games.
The spoken message, if there is one, goes on the left.

"The last switch should be right up!(?)" / "The last switch should be right in front of you!" (Robotnik, in SA2)
"Aren't those Eggman's robots?" / "Aren't those Eggman's assassins?" (Espio, in SH)
"Aah Amy, you're timing is impeccable!" (Robotnik, in SA2)
"Turn the key to the left..." / "Turn the Analog Thumb Pad to the left..." (Tikal, in SADX)

Keep in mind that I haven't seen all of these that recently. Many of them are perfect, but I may have
made a few mistakes on some, and on others, I might've only gotten the basic idea.

51
How about "you may not shoot any switch more than 3 times on one life"?
Or no rules at all? <--Perfectly valid option here! Please don't skip over it!!!

What's that about banning the time freeze glitch? It doesn't break the level. Unless you do use the
"3 consecutive times" rule instead of the "3 times on one life".

I want a chart! And again, Freestyle is better than nothing, although I'd prefer a regular chart,
since the stage isn't broken, and people just made it into a big problem by discussing it every so often.

52
Freestyle? It's better than nothing, but I still think it deserves a regular chart. But anyway, just put up the Freestyle chart for now.

Information Kiosk / Re: TSC Convention!
« on: March 06, 2007, 08:53:44 pm »
I know where to hold the TSC Convention! In Toronto, Ontario!!! Or, better yet, in Oshawa!

...What?

Maryland's not that far (compared to Utah, anyway), but there's no way I'd be able to go,
unless it happened that my parents actually decided to go through the U.S. around August.
Which is possible, but not too likely. If we do go, it might be at the wrong time or something.
And although I'll probably have a good enough license by then, I still wouldn't be going by myself.

No, wait... looking at a map, it's kind of closer than I thought. But anyway, I probably can't go.
Unless I get lucky, or unless you really do move it to Toronto. :P

54
You know Marth, I've learned over time that arguing with you is useless. Of course I'm mainly thinking about all the times it happened aimlessly in the chat, but I guess I could also link to this evidence.

I didn't want the chart removed either but since people couldn't deal with it, it just had to be done. I was the first one to throw the idea in the chat after an extensive debate, because it's simply the fairest way to deal with this without having to resort to lametastic rules. I guess we just have to accept the stage was too broken for this site's qualifications.
You know why arguing with me is pointless? Because I make sure I know what I'm talking about.
(In the Sonic Channel vs. Sonic Adventure argument, I knew SA and SC didn't match up.
In the "is the stage clear or not?" argument, I knew it would be silly and inconsistent to disallow the times.)
I don't switch my opinion around whenever someone disagrees with me, or when the majority
of people involved in the discussion turns against me. Call me stubborn, but at least I'm consistent.
And that's no reason to ignore everything I say. If I say something, there's a reason.
Also, if I have to be stubborn, there must be someone else who's stubborn and won't agree with me.
Finally, doon't drag other stuff in here. It can be used for my side, if for anything.

About a solution, if the "three consecutive hits" rule and any other possibilities are all "lametastic",
then just get rid of the rules, as you said in an earlier post here. Allow 90+ and 100+ or whatever one can get.

Quote from: Stefan
I'm not calling you insignificant, I'm not calling you bad, I'm not calling you unimportant. I'm telling you that there are also SA1 LOVERS who thought getting rid of the chart was the best choice. No, I was not bcalling you bad. You took that too far. I'm telling you that evenpeople who are likely biased in favor of the game suggested taking the chart off. The idea was well supported for the most part.

Here's the thing Marth: We have been discussing rules to make the stage not borken, in the forum and in chat, for a very long time. And what came up? Nothing. Every rule is broken. There were flaws with each one.The stage really did provide more trouble than it needed.

I also hope, pretty dearly, that you don't believe TSC will ever be inferior to cyberscore. Please don't tell me you were hinting at that. TSC has been premier sonic competition site before cyberscore existed. It has many more good players with better records and better understanding of the games. Cyberscore will never overshadow TSC, especially not because it tracks a single stage that we don't.

I don't personally dislike the stage. I was not the one who pushed the baleet button. Don't try turning this into a "Stefan hates HS-G so he bombed it". I don't have thae authority for that.

I was attempting to give you the rationale for deleting the stage. It seems, anyway, that when you feel about something, all logic aside you will win. Bringing your emotions into this was definitely not convincing to me. I still believe deleting the atage was the best choice, and a majority seems to share the same opinion as I do.
1. I interpreted your message as, "Look, the wonderful, almighty F-MAN, of all people,
agreed to delete the chart!!! What he says is what goes! He's so great! He loves SA soooo much!"
Maybe I took it the wrong way, but you have to admit that you not only put his name in capitals
and called him the champion and an SA lover, but you also didn't mention me at all.
That gave the impression that you thought that he's important, and that I'm not.

2. There wasn't all that much discussion. Just uncertainty, some hasty rule changes,
and possibly a whole lot of discussion behind my back. But it didn't seem like anything was being done.
If a rule can't be thought up, just forget the rules. It was fine without them.

3. I don't know. I prefer TSC in many ways, but removing a perfectly fine chart severely damages
the completeness of the only game I really care about. So now, I have to depend on CS for that stage.
CS is complete. TSC is not. And what if more stages get broken? Or rather, what if the "3 authorities"
decide that other stages are broken? "That shortcut skips the entire level. It's no fun. DELETE THE CHART!!!!"

4. The stage is important enough. You and other people just seem to hate it.

5. Emotions? Who's bringing in emotions? Dislike for a stage- that's emotion. (Liking a stage?
Probably emotion as well. But this whole site is emotion, since we all love Sonic games. Delete it all!!!)
I don't appreciate it when I'm accused of using emotions, speculation, etc., for an argument.
Because it's not true. As I said earlier in this post, if I'm stubborn, it's because I don't change
sides easily, since I have no reason to. The fact is that we're incomplete as a result of missing a chart.
And for my feeling (which counts as much as anyone's), I think the chart should've stayed.
Until SadisticMystic started complaining about version differences and proof and garbage,
it didn't seem like there was any trouble. But it got brought up every now and then because it was so "terrible".
And again, I don't go by general opinion. Facts>opinion. Opinion=opinion.

55
Logged in quickly for an important post:

first off, Marth, this decision was sitting around for months with no resolution. November-March is certainly not a period of 2-4 days. This had been debated on and off forever. Keeping the chart caused mroe problems than deleting it. Nobody but you followed to newly placed rule, there was no way to prove high times perfectly, there was no resolution on the method used to record your time. Basically, this was an extremely controversial chart.

Second, hot shelter gamma is not an important chart in SADX. Removing it does not kill sa1's essence. This isn't like removing EC-S. HS-G was relatively unimportant int he scheme of things.

Third, even F-MAN, champion of SADX, voted that removing the chart was a valid option. If someone who likes sa1 that much voted to remove the stage, we can be assured that it really wasn't providing that much to TSC. The chart didn't provide much competition. Hitting a switch for 45 minutes isn't exactly the world's most involved and competitive thing. i don't really want to spend 40 minutes for a failed attempt at the boss. The stage may have had plenty of room for error and thus room to be better than another, it still really didn't provide much outside those willing to be really patient.

Removing the stage was the best choice, IMO.
1. First, a rule was set up, and I didn't approve of it. But there was still a chart. Then, after it had been sitting around for a while, THREE people suddenly decided, with too little discussion (and in less than 4 days), to remove it entirely. The dumb rule is the main reason it was so broken, anyway. It was fine before the rule.

2. It's a time chart. It's important enough. Also, with Cyberscore's new ring and score charts, TSC had better make sure it's better. But obviously, it's not trying too hard. As I recall, there are a few CS-haters here... maybe some of them are even responsible for deleting the chart.

3. And what am I? I'm already a bit jealous from being overshadowed by F-Man,
but this is too much! You act like I'm not at all important, that I'm no good at the game,
that I don't know enough, and that I don't think it's the best game ever made. I'm just as much
of a Sonic Adventure fan as F-Man, and even if he managed to pull ahead on a lot of charts,
I've still held the records at one time or another, and I've discovered a lot of major glitches.
So there's my proof of "authority" and a valid opinion.
If the stage is so terrible, then we can discuss rules that would make it not broken.
But the best way for now is to just leave it with no extra rules, until something is worked out.
It really sounds as if you just personally dislike the stage. (There are a lot of stages, and even
whole divisions, that I dislike and/or am bad at. Am I asking for them to be removed?)

56
Oh! Oh! Oh! Can I post about "Sonic DX" here? Pleeeease?

(No, I don't mean Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.)

57
There you go, deleting stuff without my permission! Er, I mean, without properly discussing it.
(Just like at Cyberscore. People go and hastily decide on rules within 2-4 days- so quickly that I miss it.)
What exactly was so terrible about the chart? There was competition. The stage isn't totally broken.
Now, I have to depend on Cyberscore for HS rankings. I'm sure everyone here would love that.
But really, a list of charts that misses an obvious and important stage is un-awesome,
and this is lowering TSC's awesomeness in the area that matters- in "the best game ever made".

Plus, deleting stuff always causes problems. Just like with deleting records instead of reducing them to nothing.

Hey, you're taking all the best ones!
Meaning:

"I'm the coolest!"
"Getaloadof- getaloadof- getaloadofthis!"
"It's quite overwhelming! I've gotta pull myself together!"
"We'll show that creep the real power of teamwork!" (I don't remember him saying "super", but I could be wrong.)

But I think I can still come up with a few that don't seem to have been posted yet:

"Come! We gotta go after the last Emerald!" (Tails, in SA)  <--Related to the "quite overwhelming" one.
"Where do you think you're going, Amy?" (Robotnik, in SA)  <--Needs to be heard to be appreciated.
"I'll find Eggman and put a stop to his evil ways!" (Sonic, in SA)
"Ahah... I was on a snooze cruise, I guess." (Sonic, in SA) <--One of the funniest parts in the game.
Tails follows it with, "Good thing you're oka-  You just sort of conked out there.", and then the "Come!" thing.
"Because! We're Sonic Heroes!" (Sonic, in SH) <--Related to the teamwork quote.
"Huh, not bad!" (Jet, in Riders)  <--Again, you have to hear it.
"Better behave yourself!" (Rouge, in Riders)  <--You may or may not know the joke that's come from this.
*bumps Amy downward, possibly making her fall* "Be careful not to fall off!" (Tikal, in SA)
"As long as there's a trail of rings, you can go just about ANYWHERE!" (Tikal, in SA)
"Hurry, Sonic. What are we waiting for." (Tails, in SA)

Wow, there are a lot of dumb quotes in Sonic games. I could just keep adding them for hours.

"Even if you're frozen, jump a couple of times, and you sh- yoush- yoush- yoush- yoush-" <--Okay, doesn't count.

Rules Revisions / Re: Sonic the Fighters: Settings to be used

Metal Sonic's attacks do a lot of damage, plus that drill dash attack (when he goes across the arena)
blocks any other attacks that might be hitting him. Other than that, he doesn't cheat.
Oh, and AI depends on the programmer, not on the system. Very old systems would be limited, though.

Speaking of StF, I should get my all clear time written down. I should also play a little for each stage.
(Yeah, and I should play SA more. And I should do this. And that. And...)

I read somewhere that Sonic (in SA2) is easier to control than Shadow,
and he has better acceleration but a slightly lower top speed. I don't know if it's true.

About using AR and emulators and stuff like that, I don't have a problem with it, as long as it
doesn't provide an advantage. I don't know about unlimited lives, since it does give a small
advantage. (I get frustrated often at the slowness of collecting 100 rings dozens and dozens of times,
just to waste all those lives on a few seconds of play, and I have actually run out of lives in SA(DX).)
I don't really care if other players use it, but I prefer to do my time-attacks without AR.
It feels more honest, plus it eliminates any chance of being banned from a new rule.
