Wikkity! / Halloween Topics! Final: Your Halloween Plans
« on: October 31, 2015, 05:09:06 am »
Welcome back, for the final day of Halloween Topics! Thank you to those of you who got involved with it, and if you want me to continue into November with different topic themes, just let me know.

So, as you can guess, today's question is; what are you planning to do for Halloween?

I'm probably going to make a video of sorts for Halloween for my YouTube channel, and possibly go out in a last-second costume and get a sh*tload of candy. And since it's a Saturday, get on my PS3 & get some gaming in. I thirst for my PS3…

Now you! What are you planning to do today?

Wikkity! / Halloween Topics! 4: Favorite Creepypasta
« on: October 30, 2015, 06:46:11 am »
Welcome back once again to Halloween Topics! This is topic #4, which means tomorrow is the last topic in this Halloween series! Please let me know if you want me to continue making these threads after Halloween!

I feel like yesterday's topic was a flop, didn't have that many responses. Didn't seem like a relatable topic I guess. Anyway, today's topic is creepypastas… and for those of you who don't know what a creepypasta is, it's a scary short story you read online. It can be about anything; TV shows, video games, something in real life, and so on. So the question is; what's your favorite creepypasta? And for those of you who haven't read a creepypasta before, I recommend looking up the YouTube channel SomeOrdinaryGamers, he does a series called haunted gaming where he does read-alongs to really good video game creepypastas that were submitted to his forum.

For my favorite creepypasta, I'm going to pick the creepypasta called It Has A Lovely Ending. It's a story about this flash game on Facebook (I forget what it's called) but it's hypnotizing its players and making them spam email their friends about this flash game, and they always say, "it has a lovely ending." You can find it on the SomeOrdinaryGamers forum if you want to read it for yourself.

I'm not sure how many creepypasta fans we have here on TSC, but I wanna hear from you, what's your favorite creepypasta?

Wikkity! / Halloween Topics! 3: Most Bizarre Costume
« on: October 29, 2015, 06:11:03 am »
Welcome back again, to Halloween Topics! This is topic #3, topic #4 is coming your way tomorrow!

As for today's topic, we're going to get away from the spooky aspect, and take a look at a different aspect of Halloween; the costumes people wear. That being said, today's question is; what is the most bizarre costume you have ever seen or worn?

I don't really have a story to go along with this one, other than that the social media app ifunny has shown me some costumes where I looked at it and said "why is this a thing?" One of those costumes was this symbol; # Yep, that is legitimately a costume, that symbol made of foam or something, and it's life-size. It's attached to a shirt you put on. And it's called, the hashtag. *smh* What are we coming to? Anyway, the dude who was wearing it for the picture was pretty funny, his face was saying "please kill me now, I don't like this but I have to wear it for this picture."

Okay, done with my turn. Now it's your turn, what's the most bizarre costume you've ever seen or worn?

There is also Lavender Town's theme, of course...
Ah yes, the many creepy themes of Lavender Town, I think the 8-bit one from the first gen Pokemon games is the creepiest.

Wikkity! / Halloween Topics! 2: Creepiest Song/Soundtrack/Music Video
« on: October 28, 2015, 06:27:00 am »
Welcome back to Halloween Topics! This is topic 2, get ready for #3 tomorrow!

We're gonna stick with our theme of spooky things, at least for now, so, that being said, today's question is; what's the most terrifying song/soundtrack/music video you've listened to/watched?

Hill zone from Sonic.exe No, that's too cliche. Plus I used that game yesterday, let's use something else. I'd go with the intro soundtracks SomeOrdinaryGamers on YouTube use for their videos. The guy who makes the videos does lots of things with creepypastas and playing scary/creepypasta games, and his intros do a good job of setting the mood, and most of the time it's pretty eerie.

Now then, what eerie song or video do you think is the most terrifying thing ever?

Competition Central / Re: Colors (DS) versus mode stages?
« on: October 27, 2015, 09:25:04 pm »
Find inspiration from some of my old threads here I see? I like the creativity, finding a new way to play an old game & pioneering a competition category. I might be able to do this having a second player idle thing, I've done Versus before but I wasn't too serious about it. I've got two other DSis lying around (broken ones from RAing Sonic Rush) so I might give this a shot.

Wikkity! / Halloween Topics! 1: Spookiet Game Experience
« on: October 27, 2015, 08:20:51 am »
This is Halloween we're talking about, and since Halloween is supposed to be a frightening holiday, we'll begin our topics with one I feel is kinda cliche; what's your spookiest game experience? This doesn't have to be something that happened to you in-game for it to be spooky. It doesn't have to be Sonic either.

Mine would still have to be playing version 5 of Sonic.exe back in September 2013. I promised my fans on YouTube that if I got to 100 subs by Friday the 13th, I would play Sonic.exe for them, and well, I think you can guess what happened. I downloaded it, and I played it, making a live reaction video to go along with it. I was trembling while playing that game, and the "I am God" jumpscare still haunts me to this day. I was half relieved, half disappointed that the game eventually crashed though, sucks that I didn't get to finish it.

If you can believe it, more than a year later I found myself playing Sally.exe!

What's your spooky game story?

New topic tomorrow!

Heyo TSC! I took a hint from S&A on another forum post earlier today,
I applauded hfactors daily threads about random topics, wish he'd still do them. what the site lacks is people like yall with passion,
and I decided sure, why the hell not? I did it last year in December for the end of the year, and it had a huge turnout. So I'll be doing 5 topics for Halloween, and if you, the people of TSC, want to see these continue after Halloween, I'd be glad to continue making these! I'm currently thinking of some ideas for topics, and if you've got an idea you think is worthy enough for a post PM it to me!

Hope to see some activity from you TSC, and I hope these will be as fun as they were 10 months ago!

I hate to burst your bubble, but you're about ten years late.
Who says we can't do another one? It doesn't have to be a one time thing you know.

Okay, so I just had a lightbulb go off in my head. We should host a Sonic game based Olympics. and no, I do not mean the Mario & Sonic Olympic game titles.

I just thought of this, and I'm basing it off the CODZ forum that does a summer Olympics every year based around challenges in the Call of Duty zombies series. So basically what I'm thinking is we pick some games and we set up challenges for each of them, one for each round of the Olympics.

It'll work like a tournament essentially. There'll be a bracket, and your position on said bracket will be determined during a preliminary round. So let's say there's 10 entries in the preliminary. In turn, the highest ranking player faces the lowest ranking player in the first round, the 2nd highest faces the second lowest, and so on. Then, the winners of the first round advance to the second, the winners of the second advance, and this keeps going until there is only one player left standing, in which they will become the winner. You can add a prize here for the winner, but I think the feeling of pride you'd get from winning the TSC Olympics would be enough, lol.

Something like this really does need a way to prove your stats though, so that'll be an issue. You'd have to verify in some way that you got your stat in whatever challenge you were doing. I'd appreciate some feedback on this or if anyone wants to expand on this that would be much appreciated.

This Topic kinda sparked my interest. This is just an idea, have you considered adding mods (mostly popular ones, like unleashed Project) as possible competition for sonic games. I'm only bringing this up mainly because i see a lot of speedruns of youtube, twitch, etc and that the mod community seems to really enjoy that people are competing on their mods. Again, this is just a thought
This actually reminds me of a ROM hack of Sonic 2. Basically it's a time attack mod where you can pick any level from level select and race it with a clock that has centiseconds instead of the traditional 9:59 timer. Download link & info here: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_2_Time_Attack
Could find out who's really the fastest...

Competition Central / Re: Randomness in Advance Ring Boxes?
« on: May 18, 2015, 12:33:26 pm »
Interesting experiences and a very interesting theory, I might start experimenting in a similar fashion with Sonic Rush, because if there's a way to rig the ring boxes to give you the highest value every time, then perfect will become so much easier to accomplish. (I RA this game & while the random ring boxes do keep it interesting, when there's a ton of them in a level (3+) they're frustrating to work with because there's so many possibilities.)

I'll use the level LS2 as an example here. In theory, the probability of getting a 50 on all 6 random ring boxes in this level (1 in 5 chance for each, since you can get either a 1, 5, 10, 30 or 50) is 1 in 15,625, meaning that there's 15,625 different ways to add up these 6 ring boxes, including any ways to repeat getting the same total a different way. (example; let's say your total on all 6 was 215, you can get this in a number of ways. 50-50-50-30-30-5 is one, 50-50-50-50-10-5 is another, etc...) But, if there is a way to rig these ring boxes to make them give you the value you want consistently, this would greatly improve your odds of getting a perfect run, since you can consistently get the value you want.

I don't RA the Sonic Advance series, but I encourage you to keep working on this theory, as this could lead to figuring out how to rig the ring boxes to give you what you want consistently.

76
I'd have to say the AL boss from Sonic Rush. I've played that boss a lot and I really like its design and its attacks, it can crush you, shoot you, blow you off the stage and dive at you like a bird sweeping in and catching its prey. Taking on a giant metal bird basically, it's a really neat concept.

77
Why not add some newer games, like the two Sonic Boom games & some more of the mobile games? I'll use SJF (Sonic Jump Fever) as my example here.

I realize that probably not many of the big players on the site would want to play this, but there are potentially new members out there that will want or already have been. There's definitely plenty of chart possibilities, for both SA & RA charts. (SA is the whole point of the game anyway) There's 4 different zones the game cycles through, a new one each day, so there would be SA & RA charts for each of the characters for all 4 zones, since some zones are better than others for each category. If that's too many charts it can be condensed to SA & RA charts for all the different characters. (P.S. See my other thread "Pioneering RA in the mobile game SJF" to get an idea on how this is possible, since you're probably thinking "RA in an endless jumper? What?" Hint: endless jumper my ass, it's far from endless)

I don't know when the last time we had a game added was, but I think adding some new games could help drive competition from some new players.

guys! chill!... lol, in the end its just video games, stream, Skype, the stupid twitter. its all pretty meaningless. I mean its important to have strong competition, but not to go so aggressively at each others throats.

If you really hate someone on this site, do what I do, beat their records. ^^

no one here should really hate each other personally, not many people here know each other personally. irl most everyone here is pretty cool, if you get to know them. I.E. I thought/was convinced I would HATE Parax IRL, but I didn't, he was kool with me, didn't get to talk to him much but, there was a feeling of respect between us. (at least for me)

keep in mind we all share the same passion - Sonic

Information Kiosk / Re: Realistic Suggestion On Moving Forward
« on: May 12, 2015, 11:11:33 am »
realistically, most speed runners have some sort of recording gear in 2015, (dazzle/phone/elgato etc) so it's really a non issue.
Most serious speed runners, who would likely be the only people that would compete on such a chart where video proof is required. I'm not a serious speed runner, well I'm not even a speed runner, I'm an all-around player, and like I said I can't record everything I do right now, I don't have equipment to record my iPod or my DSi. I'm open to suggestions for recording these platforms and playing effectively.

I realize it's optional to compete on these charts, I'm saying if this becomes a thing I want to, but as of right now, that's not looking possible for most of the Sonic games I actually own.

Information Kiosk / Re: Realistic Suggestion On Moving Forward
« on: May 12, 2015, 07:54:24 am »
I'm sorry, but I believe requiring video proof is not the way to go. It limits the competition you can have on the site and will honestly make less and less people want to compete than there currently are.
Well proven charts for games would limit me to S06, Sonic 1 & 2 2013 & Rush, assuming these proven charts would come in for all current games. S06 I could do videos for easy, but Sonic 1 & 2 2013 & Rush there's no way in hell I could do video proofs, have you ever tried recording a DSi with an iPod camera & actually play the game at the same time? I've tried, and it's hard as fuck, and as for Sonic 1 & 2 2013, I'd have to get a jailbreak & a screen recorder, besides the jailbreak would make my iPod less stable and probably make the apps crash while I'm trying to record them. Granted I don't know for sure if that'll happen but I jailbroke my last iPod and it made some games unplayable.

I'm with Focus on this, requiring video proof is not the way to go here, because not everyone is gonna want to record everything just to compete on new charts. I'm not gonna put my iPod at risk or bother trying to record myself playing Sonic Rush on DSi just for more site wide points, it's not worth the time, the effort or the risk. However if you've got a better way to record DSi I'm all ears, I'd love to make videos showing my RA routes.

I realize it's been said that picture proof is easy to fake, but would the player submitting it honestly have any reason to fake their picture? This is a controversial statement, I know. Depending on your view, one might say there isn't any reason, whereas the next guy could name 10 reasons right off the bat. I think the question is, does the person submitting the picture honestly know how to fake it, cuz I don't. I've never touched photoshop in my lifetime. It does bring up the question "how do we know for sure so & so player didn't use photoshop?" Unless we're throwing this out the window soon, if we haven't done so already, the honor system. If it's found later the picture is fake, then that's that, and appropriate action would be taken.

This is just my take on all of this. Again if you have suggestions for recording my Sonic Rush stats I'm all ears. I'm not too crazy about recording Sonic 1 & 2 2013, but Rush yes, I'd love to make videos for that, I just need a way to record my DSi that doesn't make it impossible to play.

Beef / Re: ITT Anti-emulator propaganda
« on: May 07, 2015, 06:45:22 am »
So let me get this straight, what you're basically saying is, if you play on an emulator, you can't compete, and if you want to, go out & buy the consoles & games yourself. Uh, sorry but hey, news flash buddy, not all of us have the time or the money to go out & track down all these different games & consoles just to compete on this site. I don't think any of us want to either, I mean is it honestly worth it to invest hundreds of dollars on consoles & games and not get a return on your investment? All you get in return is the ability to compete.

Sorry buddy, but if that's what TSC comes to on this, then I'm leaving, cuz there's no way in hell I'm gonna drag my ass out the door to track down cartridges of the original Genesis Sonic games & a SEGA Genesis. It's not worth the time or the money to get all that just to compete on something that won't matter in the long run. I'm pretty sure I don't stand alone when I say this.

News and Updates / Re: Administrator Title Change
« on: May 06, 2015, 07:39:08 am »
TSC doesn't need a specialized community to be worth existing. It is just a fun place to track stats because of interesting motivators like the color system, sitewide/game points, and an unrivaled depth of historical times to continually climb the ranks. Speedrun.com is just a personality-less list of times, and if you want to speed up the death of IL competition switching over is one surefire way to do it.
I agree with this 100%, the only reason I even come back is to see what's new in the competitive Sonic gaming community as far as records go, and every now & then set a few of my own. (mostly Sonic Rush RA, working on getting TSCs leadership in rings for that game.) I don't come back to spend time with friends on the forum, (lol I have none, so yeah) I come back to see what new records have been set & find out about new leaders & champions.

Also, congrats on getting your 0-pt leadership on SSR back again Ring Rush, that's no easy task.

One other thing I'll say, I don't like to think ILs are dead cuz there are still people that do ILs, that's all I do, because I don't have the capability of doing a full game speed run, and I like to think about what's possible in a single level, not how quickly I can beat an entire game. I also like the color ranking system with the leaderboards, it really gives off that heir of accomplishment. It makes TSC stand out among other competition sites that just have leaderboards & stats.

This is just a thought, but why don't we make a new chart for each game for full-game speed runs, since from what I understand, that's where Sonic speed running is headed. Is that asking too much?

I don't think I've been around long enough to have much of a say in this, but I would like to voice my opinion on one thing in particular, and this was earlier in this topic; shit-posting from one particular admin, you know who you are.

In my view, and this is just one example, it can leave the wrong impression on a newcomer to the site. They could take a look at this topic & think to themselves "that's who they choose as their admins?" Honestly, that's what came to my mind. It doesn't seem like behavior befitting a TSC admin. I guess the point of this is, your posts can have a greater impact on our viewers than you might think, so think before you post.

That's all I really have to say. I don't know the other active admins on here at all to be honest.

Wikkity! / Re: Anyone know a good DS emulator?
« on: April 16, 2015, 02:29:18 pm »
On second thought, seeing how it seems DS emulators aren't 100% accurate I might just invest in another DSi, or maybe a DS lite, idk. Breaking R buttons doing RA was part of the fun (XD) shows how much R is needed for maximizing rings in stages & shows the length I'll go to to do my stats on the original game. Plus it just feels more natural to play it on DS, feels smoother compared to the last time I tried to run it on my PC.

I'm looking to play Sonic Rush again, but right now I don't feel like investing in a 3rd DSi, I already broke 2 doing RA with Blaze, and I don't feel like breaking more R buttons doing RA with Sonic. So does anyone know a good DS emulator? I'd appreciate it.
