Second, PM me what you think the answers are.

Competition Central / Its time for a contest!
« on: July 11, 2006, 10:54:35 am »
Cutting straight to the chase, we (that is, gs93 and I) want YOUR best Sonic DIY Zones and single levels, and this contest is going to dig out the 5 best (two act) zones and 4 best single levels that TSCers have to offer.

First, we'll need to go over the ground rules:

-You may submit up to three two-act Zones* and 2 Single Levels.
-Your entries must be confirmed in this topic BEFORE 9 PM (GMT) on Tuesday 1st August.
-Judging on entries will take place shortly after this time.
-By confirming your entry/entries in here, you are obligated to NOT EDIT THEM IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM once a link has been posted to the .diy file in this topic. Doing so breaches the rules of this competition and voids all of your entries.

*The Acts must share some form of similarity, you wont score points for just tossing two levels together under the same name.

A note on judges:

There will be 3 judges. Confirmed judges thus far are mike89 and Rolken, 3rd potential judge will be asked whenever mike gets round to it >_>. Judges MUST be impartial and are nto allowed to submit entries of their own.

Lastly, the main idea here is to generate a 'Standard Level Set", consisting of the 5 best zones and 4 best single levels, to possibly become a game to compete in at TUSC when TSC4 surfaces in the (hopefully) near future. By submitting your levels here, you are acknowledging the fact that if it is a 'winner' of this contest you fully express your permission for it to be used as a submittable division (Assuming this draws in the interest it _should_ and it is given the go-ahead on becoming a bracket on TUSC).

Id just like to say to you all, good luck, have fun and most of all BE CREATIVE. Challenge whats been done for, since when did fan-made Sonic levels have to be near identical to exsisting levels in the first place?

Rock on all,

~ARRPEEGEE

Competition Central / <<<***SA2:B CHALLENGES***>>>
« on: June 21, 2006, 06:35:57 pm »
Yes indeed its time to give SA2:B Challenges yet another whirl!

Rather than gather some players first, this time were diving straight in at the deep end with Challenge #1. But not before the basics are explained to any people who may play that are new to this.

SA2:B Challenges will have you performing various tasks within levels, often extremely unconventionable, and according to how well you do, you are assigned a letter rank and then awarded a number of points. There are two types of challenge: Fixed Rank and Competition. Fixed Rank has set boundaries for each Grade (Well duh) whilst Competition is an 'every-man-for-himself' type affair, where the best player gets the top rank.

Got all that? Good, here are the Points for each rank~

S: 5 Points
A: 4 Points
B: 3 Points
C: 2 Points
D: 1 Point
E: 0 Points
F: -1 Point*
G: -10 Points**

*Grade "F" will only be used for Competition challenges as the rank for the Player in last place if there are a lot of Players. If there isnt, it wont be used.
**Grade "G" is the resulting grade for lieing. You will not be notified immediatly if your stat for the particular challenge is a lie, you will simply find out when the challenge ends and thus look a fool. In conclusion, be smart, dont BS.

All challenges are to strict deadlines, no allowances will be made unless a genuince reason is given in advance. For example, Player A will be out of town for a week, and will miss a challenge. If they inform me in advance, they can have a little extra time after the deadline of the challenge to 'catch up' and do the challenge. No other exceptions will be made. You have been warned.

Now thats all out of the way, here we go~

Challenge #1: Iron Gate Mission 1 Time Attack.

Sounds simple enough, huh? Naturally there's a catch: You are not allowed to hover at any point during the level.

You may either start a brand new savefile to eliminate the possibilites of doubletapping A and accidentally hovering, or you may use your exsisting file. However consider that I cant see if you double-tap A, and although this voids your run, its up to you to be grown up enough to admit an error and simply restart I guess.

Also consider that while the Ranks for the top two grades are quite harsh, the other grades are pretty lenient in how difficult they are to achieve, this being the first challenge and all. Dont expect them to stay quite this easy in future X)

Ranks

S Rank: Finish in under 2 minutes 5 seconds
A Rank: Finish in under 2 minutes 10 seconds
B Rank: Finish in under 2 minutes 20 seconds
C Rank: Finish in under 2 minutes 30 seconds
D Rank: Finish in under 2 minutes 45 seconds
E Rank: Anything over 2 minutes 45 seconds.

Ok guys (and girls) lets see if we can make this the best, most challenging, most fun, and the most succesful edition of SA2:B Challenges yet. Hell, we've never quite matched how awesome Taco's original two were, and they were back in 2003 at GameFAQs of all places.

Good luck and have fun, the deadline is EXACTLY ONE WEEK AFTER THIS HAS BEEN POSTED. Going by Time of Post.

~ARRPEEGEE

Gaming and Grazing / RPG's Tech Hoax Spotting Competition Topic!
« on: April 17, 2006, 08:20:26 pm »
Yup, thats right, my hoaxing antics have wound their way into this little number.

Remember Taco's DX Pics Competition? Yeah, this is basically a rip-off of that. Moving on....

Basically, I'll be posting up to 4 pictures a 'Round', of screenshots from various Sonic games, with various things wrong with them, and its YOUR job to TELL ME WHAT THEY ARE :O.

You'll be awarded points for each one you find, up to 10 for hard ones, and 1 for easy ones. Also ridiculously hard ones will be potentially worth more.

That said, on with the hoaxes :o

ROUND ONE

Hoax #1

There are 6 things wrong with this (The fact its knux in S1 does NOT count).

There are 4 glaringly obvious techies, each of them worth a point each.
There are 2 not-impossible-but-hardish-to-spot techies, one of them is worth 4 points, the other is worth 6.

Hoax #2

Only 2 things wrong here. (Thats a background for 'Poison Hill Zone' and does nout count.)

One of them is pretty obvious and worth 3 points.
The other is not obvious in any way, shape or form and worth 20 points.

Hoax #3

LAST HOAX OF THE UPDATE *shot*

Seriously now, 3 techies to find. (Again, the fact Knux shouldnt be able to get to that part of Chemical Plant is not part of this techie hoax (Also I got in here using Level Select, not by beating Emerald Hill.))

3 Things to spot.

One is semi-obvious and worth 3 points.
Another is not-so-semi-obvious and worth 4 points.
One is slightly hard to spot and worth 5 points.

PM me your 'answers', rather than posting them in here, Chuck has seen all 3, mike and Spinny have seen the 'BETA' of Hoax #1 and I know which techies they spotted so they dont have an advantage?

Got all that? Happy Hunting! :o

EDIT: Oh yeah, deadline for this is four days from now, so the 22nd :o

I decided to do one of these too, but I daresay mine will be more active than mike's or Spinny's on the basis that I probably do more TAing than them <_<

Anyway, on with the show!

April 6th 2006

Levels played

Angel Island 1-Sonic
Angel Island 2-Sonic
Hydrocity 1-Sonic
Labyrinth 1
Labyrinth 2
Metal City 3 Lap (All Riders time are 'Races')
Metal City 1 Lap
Splash Canyon 3 Lap
Splash Canyon 1 Lap
Egg Factory 3 Lap
Egg Factory 1 Lap
Green Cave 3 Lap
Green Cave 2 Lap
Sand Ruins 3 Lap
Sand Ruins 1 Lap
SEGA CARNIVAL 3 Lap
SEGA CARNIVAL 1 Lap

Angel Island 1-Sonic: 0:54 0:52
Was bored and wanted something to play, S3 sounded fun so I did this. Was happy with the 54 till I found it was one second off a 3-way-tie, so I did it again and got 52. Naturally, Eredani beat me within a few minutes but thats come to be expected these days.

Satisfaction O'meter: 8/10

Angel Island2-Sonic: 1:31
Again, see reasoning above for why I actually bothered with this one. I managed to cut 7 whole seconds an move up to 4th though, so while I wanted sub 1:30, this'll do for now

Satisfaction O'meter: 8.5/10

Hydrocity 1-Sonic: 1:03
Holy shiznit this level is suprisingly fun. Took a lot of attempts to jump out that tunnel at the start right, and even more to get a good run right to the end going. Was aiming for around 1:05 so this surpassed my expectations, and my run at the Boss was ownage, I wish I'd recorded the Boss now D:

Satisfaction O'meter: 9.5/10

Labyrinth 1: 0:59
This was just a random improvement and plus I wanted sub 1:00. I was pleased with this till I saw the amount of people with 0:58, but I was just too lazy to go beat this.

Satisfaction O'meter: 4/10

Labyrinth 2: 1:24
Again, just a random improvement, but Im quite chuffed with this one since its no longer Green'd and making my S1 chart look bad, still a few Green's to go though.

Satisfaction O'meter: 7.5/10

All of the above Riders stats
These were just any and all improvements in my WGP run to unlock SEGA CARNIVAL. And the SEGA CARNIVAL run was my first go, so it sucks, obviously.

Satisfaction O'meter: N/A

Thats all for now folks, stay tuned for more! :O

Well, I figure now is a better time than ever to pull another magic trick out of me 'box-O'-Tricks': I'm 'retiring', per say.

Yes, I've said this before. for Adv2 and SA2:B and look how I stuck to those, but this time I am fully serious, I will be TAing little more than 10 minutes on a level a week, probably less. I just dont have the same 'drive' I used to, whether thats due to losing all my Championships between December and now, and watching my amount of Records plummet, I really dont know, but the 'drive' itselfs been missing since around about October now, and I noticed it more when I started (trying to) AT Rush.

On top of that, I have little time to TA anyway anymore, what with shitloads of College work, actually bothering to practice guitar, and spending the majority of my free time with Charlie (gf), I just dont have the motivation to try and squeeze it in anymore.

And lastly there's the fact that TAing is pissing me off more and more lately, mostly because I know that I CAN beat level
  • in 6 seconds faster than my PR, but I keep making stupid mistakes that prevent me from doing so, and so forth.

However, this is not goodbye! I'll still be around the forum and the IRC channel when my Internet bothers to work, I just wont be competing much anymore. Although to throw a spanner in the works of that, I preordered Sonic Riders. SO I daresay once I beat it, I'll end up submitting my times for that anyway *shrug*

Its been great competing with you all, and participating in some truly fierce rivalries, but alas, all good things must come to an end, and so, I'm afraid, does RPG's Adventures at TSC.....for the most part.

And because I am feeling generous, I am going to be posting my strats in here, rather than whoard them all to myself, so other people can get good times and hopefully beat my times :) Although I wouldnt mind a few of them living on as milestones >_>

Well, I'll be revealing my Cosmic Wall Score strat, my FinalHazard strat, my twinle Circuit strats and some tips and tricks for City Escape whenever I get round to it.

I'd just like to thank you guys (and gals :o) for a great 2 years of competition, and Rolk, you've done an awesome job with the site, it bloody rocks, keep up the damn good work and happy TAing!

Peace out and dont do drugs!

Leaderboard Disputes / Greham Adelphis...
« on: December 08, 2005, 05:19:50 pm »
I have a few things to point out:

Greham Adelphis SAdva2 Egg Hammer Tank II Cream 0:06:97 1 / 30 12-08-05

Exactly how did you do this when Adv2's 2 Greatest Players by far have this virtually maxed at 8:3x?

Greham Adelphis SAdva2 Egg Bomber Tank Cream 0:09:91 1 / 27 12-08-05
Greham Adelphis SAdva2 Egg Totem Cream 0:08:51 1 / 26 12-08-05

Could you also please explain how you got these two?

Greham Adelphis SAdva2 Egg Saucer Cream 0:10:08 1 / 26 12-08-05

And with this, given the old record of 13:52 is quite possibly fake, kindly shed some light on what you did?

Thanks and have a nice day.

They'll be up once my Internet is ungay, Lord knows when that'll be, and maybe then I'll re-record Mystic Cave 2-Knuckles

Also, ftw, the vids are:

Aqua Planet 1-Sonic-0:23
Aqua Planet 2-Sonic-0:18
Sleeping Egg 1-Sonic-0L15

Because it is not recognising "lol TAB key": 'Miss a line'=New Paragraph

Chapter 1-In The Beginning

Many eons ago, a group of the wisest wizards and warlocks in the land of Warble were suffering from chronic boredom, and so brought it upon themselves to begin a religious sect, The Church of Boris, named by their leader, the aptly named Boris Warlockson. They set up the Church in the Year 0 AB (After Boris, The year 0 AB is also known as "JAB or RAB", Just After Boris and Right After Boris respectively). Despite the fact that boredom can do terrible things to a warlocks mind, the other reason for setting up the church was that they wanted nationwide recognition for their excessive magical talents, and also because they figured they'd look good in flowing purple gowns and jester hats. Years progressed uneventfully, the Wizards and Warlocks obtained the fame they so badly wanted, and they earned themselves many followers, who adjusted very quickly to the Churches way of life: It was identical to their lifestyle before Boris, just now they believed they had found contentment. A few millennia passed and they began dabbling in the occult, as after 3500 years of sustained existence on silty mineral water and unbuttered cress sandwiches, there body's were definatly beginning to show the signs of stress, even though they were slowing the aging process with some strange brand of magic, they had realized that they now all looked at least over 35 and were not chuffed with this in general. They sought to bring immortal life to themselves, and also to keep their bodies as dashing as possible, sadly, they failed. They brought an unspeakable evil into the World, an evil which would manifest itself and feed on the very World's lifeforce in order to recuperate. They summoned the God of the Slimes, otherwise known as Giga Slime.

Giga Slime had the power of all of the elements of the World in which they lived inside of him (These were Fire, Ice, Lightning, Earth, Water, Air, Venom and Darkness, the remaining 3 elements were not discovered until a long time after the fight (Holy, Dragon and Magna) by accident where various people throughout Warble's History had disintegrated graveyards and called forth huge, whopping great Dragons by mistake) he was the very spirit of their worlds existence, but non-spirit, alive, and slimy. They fought with him, there in the main hall of the Cathedral. He slaughtered them mercilessly. Their numbers dwindled by the minute. They dropped like flies, from 56, to 19, to 10. Finally, their were just two of them remaining. Boris and his personal love interest, Opera Magicite. Despite the fact Giga Slime has been considerably weakened, Boris could tell, it was beginning to get smaller as flecks of its slime either dissolved into the ground or evaporated into the air, its attack was still relentless. Boris saw the tentacle before Opera did, which wasn't too difficult considering she was straightening her hair at the time.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Cried out Boris.
"What the Boris do you want?" was the reply called back from Opera, getting distracted from her flowing blonde locks.
"Look out you dim-witted Blonde!" Boris cursed back at her.
Just then there was a sound from Giga Slime that sounded like a cross between a gurgle and "Schlumpy!".

The tentacle struck her hard across the torso, Opera shrieked and then did not utter another sound as she was flung across the room. She crashed into one of the ornate marble and gold pillars which had “Long Live The Good King Boris” inscribed on it in childish writing, even though Boris was not actually a King per se, he just liked the Title.
“For that, I am going to smite you, you infernal jelly-like behemoth of the rather large variety”, Boris calmly said to the gigantic beast before him.
It turned to face him, its strangely vacant eyes appeared to look straight through him, as though he were nothing before the Great Giga Slime. In all fairness, he was hardly a match for it, but Boris realized he had one trick left up his sleeve: He decided he would try and implode the slime with his magical talents.

Boris raised his hands and whirled around in an outlandishly camp fashion, before several rays of silver light shot from his finger tips and shot straight at the Giga Slime at a blinding speed. Not surprisingly, the Slime didn’t even blink. The arrows of light penetrated its wobbling skin and caused it to ripple pointlessly for a short while, before it promptly erupted and showered the surrounding area in a thick, goopy substance.

Boris braced himself and tightly shut his eyes. He heard the goop spattering violently all around him and felt some collide forcefully with his lower abdomen. At first he felt nothing. Then he opened his eyes and felt a tingling sensation where the slime was now molded to his skin, having ripped his luxurious purple gown.
“Awww Boris, where in Warble can I get a new one of the-ARGH!” he screamed, as the tingling had now been replaced with an immense burning pain.
“Well Boris”, he thought to himself, “It appears I shall be pushing up the daises relatively soon.

Boris knew his time was short, and reluctant to depart from the mortal world without leaving a last impression, he staggered around in random directions until he happened upon a large, slime-free slab in the midst of the cathedral’s ruins, and engraved a message onto it with his magical talents. He engraved a prophecy speaking of Giga Slime and its potential return to the mortal world, yet at the time he was engraving it, he had no idea that his prophecy could be true.

The prophecy was found mere minutes after his death, nearby villagers had heard the commotion and the sounds of the battle (From Warble, no less, where they were going about their daily routines) and had rushed to the Cathedral to see what the trouble was. What they saw upon reaching their destination chilled them to their very bones. The entire site was completely destroyed and lay in ruins, all of the wizards and warlocks lying dead in various painful looking positions, painful had they been alive, that is, and what left of the surrounding area coated in a form of, thick, sticky, highly toxic sludge. In fact, many villagers began to feel nauseas from merely going near the ruins. Those that could stomach the feelings ventured inside, treading carefully so as not to step on any bodies or in any slime. As they crept inside, they happened upon the large marble slab which had the prophecy engraved upon its cold, shiny surface, and were horrified by what they read.
â€œWhen the time comes that the Slime crawl across the Earth, feasting upon the living as sacrifices to their God, the Giga Slime, in order to return him to the mortal realm and begin his reign of terror over our World, Four Almighty Heroes shalt emerge, dubbed ‘The Shining Farce’. The Shining Farce shalt thwart Giga Slime and banish him from all planes of existence, be they ethereal or material. They shalt restore the power to the Elemental Beacons to prevent Giga Slime from ever returning and”.

Boris did not have time to complete his farcical prophecy (which is somewhat irrelevant, as even while he was carving it he had no idea what he was raving about.) which horrified the villagers more. Partly because the slime had burned into his innards and he had bled to death, as denoted by the sarcastically large and somewhat circular blood pool surrounding his cold, motionless body, and partly because the prophecy was unfinished: They didn’t know what other nightmares were in store, or when these horrors would come about. Luckily for the first generation of ‘Prophecites’, it was not during their lifetime. Nor their children’s. Or their grandchildren’s for that matter. In fact, many hundreds of years passed without incident

As for the second half of the prophecy, many a brave and foolish explorer ventured forth from Warble seeking to find it, although no-one really knew if such a thing existed or was really a myth. However, all of the adventurer’s never returned…..or did so in pieces or in a box wooden box. Sadly for Warble, it is forced to be a very highly self-sufficient Country, for it was not established in the most fruitful of locations: On a somewhat small Island, surrounded by towering, imposing mountains, upon which gigantic waves constantly crashed down, slowly eating away at the immense rocky wall protecting Warble, one day going to swallow the town in its sweeping blue-grey liquid matter. To make matters worse, the Island is host to voracious packs of goblins and orcs. These putrid beasts roam the Island at night and live in small holes in the ground which they carefully cover over whenever they leave or enter their lairs. Any person unfortunate enough to fall into the 8 foot hole is promptly eaten. With all these tremendously cruel features, Warble is very isolated and cut off from most of the rest of the World…

And this is where our tale begins, precisely 1337 years after the incident at St Boris’s Cathedral (Boris was quickly made a Saint in order to honour his demise), in the year 4889 AB, in the town or Warble, in a smallish house of average financial value, on the upper floor is where we meet the Hero of our tale, Skye, who is currently sleeping, completely unaware of the events that will conspire in the next day, a tale is about to unfold, a tale of swords and sillyness, monsters and mishaps, his very own legend is about to become a reality.

A dull thud resonated through the darkness.
“Thank Boris for that, that prologue was long enough, I mean, was all that really necessary?” came a voice seemingly from nowhere
There was silence for a few moments.
“Hey! Wait! Is this Boris damn Mic STILL on!?”.
At just that moment, Skye awoke with a start.

TSC Adventure Alpha Demo Version 0.1f!

www.soniccenter.org/ARRPEEGEE/Project1.zip

Should auto download when you go on that :o

Its only 28.57 MB's though this time, so its not too painful, well, compared to the last one.

Only a few changes from the previous version, namely the poison/game over/cave exit glitches, you can now explore SS's solo part of GS and a very very rough "The Domain".

After extracting it, I highly recommend that you just double click "RPG_RT", it has a funky picture so its easy to spot :o

I'd also recommend that you dont look into the other folders, you might inadvertently spoil various things for yourself, but I guess I cant stop you D:

Hope you like it, suggestions for improvement are welcome, PM/whatever me or mike with any questions/whatever :o

Controls

Z=Action Button (For accessing Stuff and whatnot :o)
X=Cancel
Esc= Use to access the menu when not in battle
Arrow Keys= Pretty straight forward.

If at anytime the game appears to be 'stuck', just press the action button, that should continue it :o

Peace out.

Well, the title says it all I guess, and just for the record, "official" is nowhere to be seen.

To start things off I have a few:

SA:DX (I know what your thinking)

Emerald Coast-Tails-'Final' Check-0:26
Twinkle Park-Knuckles-2:24:90
Speed Highway-Tails-Sonic's Capsule-1:26:80

AR was not used to do any of those times, its perfectly possible to get said characters into said levels.

Panzer Dragoon Orta

Episode 3 Boss- 0:14:xx

I had my fastest Boss times all written down but I've misplaced the sheet of paper I wrote them on. In any case, I'll redo these on Holiday, as my Dad's taking his Xbox, and it'll probably rain at least once in the week :P

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire

First Hall of Fame- 15:54:12 (Terrible, frankly)
Cycling Road- 09:15

Meh, I've yet to do Burning Ranger's Bosses, but they are on my agenda, as are a few other things, Golden Sun being one, and the rest shall be secret until I get round to doing them :o

Feel free too add contributions whenever you feel like it, I daresay Mike will post his 'G/S/C defeated everything' time when he reads this.

I'm also going to use this topic to announce that as of tomorrow I will be on holiday for a week, so until then my friends, Happy TAing! (Although I will be in the Chat for a few more hours going by the time of this post :P)
