Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I was also talking about the Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast. I think that version has some of the best midi-music ever!

@ Danieldude: I'd love to, but unfortunately, I have a very busy life. The time in which I was high on Sonic-competition was when I was mainly playing Sonic Rush, but since I have last submitted any stats, a long time has past and I don't think I'm ever gonna compete on this website ever again. Not because I don't want to, but because it would eat up my life.

General Sonic / Rating Sonic Platformer Games
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:12:53 am »
I have created a list of Sonic platformer games and have tried to rate them as well as I could. Games that I have rated with ??? are games that I either have not played at all or have not played enough to rate them properly. I have also written a short comment for the games that I have rated. I'd love to see your lists too!

001. Sonic the Hedgehog 16-Bit - 9.5 "I have endless love for this game."
002. Sonic the Hedgehog 8-Bit - 8.5 "Most levels here are pretty interesting."
003. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 8-Bit - 9 "Really good levels and a good challenge."
004. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 16-Bit - 6.5 "Has its moments but is overally quite boring with bad enemy/trap placement and not very good special stages."
005. SEGASonic the Hedgehog - 6.5 "Cool little diversion but not on a par with a true Sonic game."
006. Sonic the Hedgehog CD - 9.5 "I love the time travel mechanic and wish to see it some time again in a Sonic game. Also the special stages are the best and the level design, although a bit too easy, is some of the best in any platform game, with Wacky Workbench probably beeing my all-time favorite level."
007. Sonic Chaos - ???
008. Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball 16-Bit - 8 "Definitely the best pinball game ever."
009. Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball 8-Bit - ???
010. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles - 10 "This is the only Sonic game so far that is in my opinion perfect in pretty much every single way."
011. Sonic Triple Trouble - ???
012. Knuckles' Chaotix - 6.5 "Really fun in 2-player mode but other than that quite bland."
013. Tails Adventures - ???
014. Sonic Labyrinth - ???
015. Sonic 3D Blast - 7.5 "Awesome music with quite good levels but uninteresting special stages. Also does not feel quite like a true Sonic game."
016. Sonic Blast - 3.5 "This is the only Sonic game so far that I hate in every single way."

017. Sonic Adventure - 6.5 "Too few Sonic-style stages and way too easy but still pretty cool."
018. Sonic Pocket Adventure - ???
019. Sonic Adventure 2 - 8 "If only there were more Sonic-style stages."
020. Sonic Advance - 6 "Despite Egg Rocket Zone beeing quite cool, this is a pretty bland game with bad enemy/trap placement."
021. Sonic Advance 2 - 6 "Despite having superb boss-fights and a smooth flow, this is a pretty bland game."
022. Sonic Heroes - 6.5 "A very mixed bag but overally enjoyable."
023. Sonic Advance 3 - 6 "Despite Angel Chaos Zone being incredably awesome, this is a pretty bland game with bad enemy/trap placement."
024. Sonic Rush - 8.5 "Pure adrenaline-rush with awesome music."
025. Shadow the Hedgehog - 8.5 "The most underrated game of all time."
026. Sonic Rivals - ???
027. Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 - 5.5 "Has some good intensions and I like the story but has bad level design and is very poorly executed."
028. Sonic and the Secret Rings - 8.5 "Probably the most challenging Sonic game ever with fresh game mechanics and admirably deep costumization options. If only it wasn't rushed so much! Oh, and it had been way better if the game was on PC with mouse-controls instead of the clunky Wii-controls."
029. Sonic Rush Adventure - 8.5 "Pure adrenaline-rush with awesome music."
030. Sonic Rivals 2 - ???
031. Sonic Unleashed SD - ??? (Guess: 3.5 - 6) "Seems to be extremely bland."
032. Sonic and the Black Knight - ??? (Guess: 3.5 - 6) "If only they had sticked to the Secret-Rings-formula and improved upon it."

033. Sonic Unleashed HD Adventure Packed - 8 "Next time no werehog please and a bit more veriaty in level design but with the same amount of challenge present in this game and its DLC-levels."
034. Sonic Colors DS - 7 "Not as interesting as the Sonic Rush games and not very good music."
035. Sonic Colors Wii - ??? (Guess: 5.5 - 8) "Seems to be a bit bland and rushed with recycled level elements."
036. Sonic Generations HD - 7.5 "Great game but way too easy with no real score system and a somewhat disappointing list of elected levels."
037. Sonic Generations 3DS - ??? (Guess: 3.5 - 6) "Seems to be extremely bland."

10s: 1 - 9.5s: 2 - 9s: 1 - 8.5s: 5 - 8s: 3 - 7.5s: 2 - 7s: 1 - 6.5s: 5 - 6s: 3 - 5.5s: 1 - 3.5s: 1 - ???s: 12

Brilliants (10): 1 - Awesomes (8.5 - 9.5): 8 - Goods (7 - 8): 6 - OKs (5.5 - 6.5): 9
Poors (4 - 5): 0 - Bads (2.5 - 3.5): 1 - Awfuls (1 - 2): 0 - Abysmals (0.5): 0 - ???s: 12

Sonic the Hedgehog 4
Episode I - 5.5 "The fact that this is called Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is insulting but at least in this episode you can see some tiny efforts in level design, especially in Lost Labyrinth Zone. Also, the music is insulting to the Sonic franchise."
Epidose II - 5 "This game is almost void of any love and care. It's arguably better than Sonic Blast and does have some moments but that doesn't say much at all and is worlds below expectations for a game that is named Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The music is just as bad as in the first episode."
   Episode III - TBA
   Episode IV - TBA

General Sonic / Re: Sonic Team Creative Directors
« on: March 15, 2008, 01:53:39 pm »
I explaned many of these before. It is not about which company developed them, but about the creative directors, who are all part of Sonic Team.

- Sonic 2 & 3 were developed by Sega Technical Institute AND Sonic Team.
- Sonic CD was directed by Naoto Ohshima, who was an imortant member of Sonic Team.
- Knuckles Chaotix isn't even on my list.
- Sonic Team USA is also Sonic Team. It's in the name and the share the same logo. Also Takashi Iizuka was already before the creation of Sonic Team USA an important member of Sonic Team.
- About Sonic 3D, Sonic R, the Sonic Advance and Rush series, and the Sonic Rivals series, look a few post further up, uder "interesting notes".

It's not about his sentences. I just hate his voice. I imagine his voice being especially annoying in SMG, because everytime you jump or attack, he makes this stupid "Woah" sound (with the voice of a complete idiot).

Con you actually change the Sound Volume in SMG? Because, I might only give the game a try if I can turn off Mario's voice.

Guys, if you play the Master System version, the first boss will be really easy.

Overally, I think the difficulty of Sonic 2 8-bit is OK, since you can collect infinite lives!

General Sonic / Re: How many sonic games do you own?
« on: March 07, 2008, 12:46:30 pm »
Sonic Mega Collection Plus (PC)
Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut (PC) - I have unlocked all the GameGear games as well.
Sonic the Hedgehog CD (PC) - But it doesn't work anymore, so, I play the MegaCD version with an emulator.
Sonic & Knuckles Collection (PC) - Useless on modern PCs.
Sonic 3D Blast (PC)
Sonic R (PC)
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (NGC)
2 in 1: Sonic Advance & Sonic Battle (NGBA)
Sonic Advance 2 (NGBA)
Sonic Heroes (PC)
Sonic Advance 3 (NGBA)
Sonic Rush (NDS)
Shadow the Hedgehog (NGC)
Sonic Riders (NGC)
Sonic Riders (PC)
Sonic and the Secret Rings (NWii)
Sonic Rush Adventure (NGC)
Sonic Riders 2 Zero Gravity (NWii)

If I don't coun't Sonic Rider for PC and Sonic & Knuckles Collection, since I have practically all of its games on Mega Collection as well, then that makes for 16 games.

UPDATE!

I have updated the list with some new information. Interesting notes:

- Although Sonic 3D Blast was developed by Traveler's Tales, it was designed by Takao Miyoshi who is responsible for the Phantasy Star Online/Universe series.

- Although Sonic R was developed by Traveler's Tales, it was designed by Takashi Iizuka, who every one should know who he is.

- Although The Sonic Rivals games were developed by Backbone Studios, they were both designed by Takashi Iizuka.

- Although most HandHeld Sonic games have been developed by Dimps, most of them have been designed by Akinori Nishiyama, who works at Sonic Team, not at Dimps. He has also been involved with other Sonic Team games, like the Sonic Adventure series and others.

14
It's true that the 360 and PS3 have much greater libraries and that the Wii's library is mostly full of stupid games (at least for hardcore gamers), but the Wii has Secret Rings And NiGHTS and that is reason enough to buy a Wii!

15
You guys didn't already get one for Secret Rings?! o.O

Thanks guys!

You're both right of course. I should explain better what I find anoying. It is true that the camera does a good job as long as you follow the path you are supposed to follow. But, for example, it is almost impossible to back-track in SA2. When you are not moving, the camera can be moved around freely, but as soon as you sart moving, the camera will reset to showing forward again, even if you are going to the opposite direction. That can be incredibely anoying. I never expected the camera to always know what I am going to do next, but the camera of SA2 provides a real problem here. They have fixed this problem in SH and ShtH: If you decide to not follow the given path and want to look around a bit while your moving, or want to back-track, the camera will move freely for a while instead of reseting as soon as you press a direction button. In addition, In Sonic Heroes you can set the camera to free if the automatic camera is getting in your way at a given point. Sure, the free camera in SH is not in every situation that great, but it's better than nothing.

However, I am not down-grading SA2 for the camera that much. I just wanted to acknowledge that the camera in SA2 is my least favorite. My main critisism is what I have writen afterwards. As you can see by my rating, I haven't down-graded the game by much anyway. It's just that it is hard to understand for me why so many people think that SA2 is the best Sonic game ever. This doesn't mean I haven't a lot of fun playing it.

Generally, I am actually exactly a person who has always hated it when people put Sonic games down so much because of the camera and controls. Sure, the camera and controls are not flawless, but overally they do the job. These people always argue that why Sonic can't manage to have a decent camera when there are so many other 3D games out there with much better cameras, but these people don't seem to understand that Sonic games are something totally different and there is nothing like them. Designing the perfect camera for a 3D Sonic game is much more challenging then for other 3D games. So far, there HAVE been a few moments in pretty much all 3D Sonic games were I didn't find the camera very convinient, but most of the time, I have been satisfied. Same with the controls. Those people who hate 3D Sonic games because of the camera and controls really need to learn to play Sonic games!

General Sonic / Re: Rate Sonic Games
« on: February 18, 2008, 02:03:55 pm »
Thanks, P.P.A. and magnum12!

Magnum, I agree with you that SA2 is highly over-rated. The camera can be the most anoying in any 3D Sonic game, unless you just follow the path you are supposed to follow. The shooting stages are not so fun and I agree that Gama's stages where somewhat better, though not by much. The most anoying thing is the Chao-raising, which I can't describe with words how much I hate it! Design-wise, it's less horrible than in Sonic Adventure, but the fact that you have to spend much more time with the Chaos in SA2 than in SA1 in order to collect all embles, makes it even much worse! Biggest torture ever! However, although this is a matter of opinion, I think the hunting stages in SA2 are very good and creative. Much better than the ones from SA1. I wished there were Sonic-Style stages with the design of the hunting stages! I think the Kart Racing was also OK. The best part of SA2 is of course the Sonic-Style stages. I think most of them are the best in any 3D Sonic game. For this reason I still believe it deserves a high score, even though it is really a shame that only slightly more than 1/3 of the game consists of these stages. There are some really awesome soundtracks in the game as well. All in all, it is true that this game is way too over-worshiped and is very far from the best Sonic game ever created.

On the other hand, I think Sonic Adventure is also way too over-rated. The Sonic & Amy stages are fun, but, in my opinion, most of the time, by far not as exciting as most other stages found in other 3D Sonic games. The gameplay of the other characters is for the most part really not that interesting and especially Big's fishing stages are some of the very worst things ever happened to the Sonic universe. Furthermore, the game is way too easy and the Story Mode hardly provides any challange. It only gets challenging if you go for competition, but most players don't do that anyway. Also, the game is not much less glitchy than Sonic 06 is. The only reason that noone really cared back then, is because it was Sonic's first real 3D game and everybody was so excited and all. In my opinion, it has also the least interesting music between all 3D Sonic game. Overall, you can still get a lot of fun out of the game, if you at least try to do some SpeedRuns, but I think all 3D Sonic games afterwards have improved over Sonic Adventure in pretty much any way.

About Shadow the Hedgehog, I totally have to agree with you! I just wished all those people who hate this game just because Shadow uses guns in it and says "Damn" would open their eyes and realise how much effort was put into this game! Gunplay has already existed in Sonic games since Sonic Adventure. The difference here is that, in contrary to the Sonic Adventure games, the gunplay in Shadow the Hedgehog is really fun, and as you said, really adds a layer of strategy. The vehicles are also sometimes an interesting option, though not always; but if you don't like them, you usualy don't have to use them anyway. Collecting the keys and seeing what they unlock is also pretty interesting. I also think that this game has some of the most varied and best stages in any 3D Sonic game and the fact alone that there are 23 stages, all just for Shadow, and that there are no other useless playable characters, only makes this game even much better. No Big the F*cking Cat or any torturous Chao-raising. The music also kicks ass! If only the bosses weren't so crappy and were actually really fun, and if A-ranking had been more challenging, I had given this game a 10/10.

UPDATE:

This time, I have included only games that I think deserve something like a 10/10. Sorry, but I think it is kinda wierd that this topic is about your very favorite games, yet your lists are sooooooooooo long! I wanted to know what games you think are the very best in history, not all the games that you like.

This time, please only list games that you think are super duper freaking awesome!

Here is my new list, in alphabetic order:
Diablo II Lord of Destruction
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 2
Monkey Island LeChuck's Revenge
Oddworld Abe's Exoddus
Oddworld Abe's Oddysee
Phantasy Star Universe Ambition of the Illuminus
Portal
Prince of Persia 2 The Shadow and the Flame
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Sonic the Hedgehog (MD)
Sonic the Hedgehog CD
The Curse of Monkey Island
The Lost Vikings
The Neverhood
Tomb Raider III Adventures of Lara Croft

Here are some games that I either haven't played or haven't played long enough, but I think they could be something like a 10/10:
BioShock
Oddworld Munch's Oddysee
Odin Sphere
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst
Rayman 2 The Great Escape
Tails Adventures
The Lost Vikings II

OK, There is also one game that I haven't played for 10 hours or finished with all Chaos Emeralds, but I have played through all its levels and know it well enough to hate it. This one game, in my opinion the only Sonic game really worth to hate, is Sonic Blast (not to be confused with Sonic 3D Blast). I'd give it a 3/10 at most!

Bye the way, all my ratings are subjective anyway. That's what matters anyway. It's not so important what you think would be a fair rating, but how much you truely believe you enjoyed playing the game. If you believe you enjoyed playing Sonic R more than just 7/10, then it deserves more.

Rate Sonic games.

Please, only unclude games that you have completely finished (with all extras, unlockables and stuff) or games that you have played for at least 10 hours!!!

Here are my ratings:

20. Sonic Battle                       7.0/10
Status: I haven't completed Chalange Mode yet, but I have finished the story two times, once with my cousin, once alone, and have tried various challanges already. I believe I have played this game more than 10 hours already, but I'm not sure.

19. Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball (MD)   7.0/10
Status: Completely finished without using the save function of the emulator.

18. Sonic R                            7.0/10
Status: Unlocked Super Sonic

17. Sonic Riders                       7.1/10
Status: Far from total completion, but I believe I have played it around 50 hours.

16. Sonic 3D Blast                     7.1/10
Status: Completed with all Chaos Emeralds without using the save function of the emulator.

15. Sonic Advance                      7.3/10
Status: Extra Ending finished.

14. Sonic Advance 3                    7.5/10
Status: Extra Ending finished.

13. Sonic the Hedgehog (MS/GG)         7.7/10
Status: Completed with all Chaos Emeralds without using the save function of the emulator.

12. Sonic Advance 2                    8.0/10
Status: Collected all Chaos Emeralds with Amy Rose.

11. Sonic Adventure                    8.3/10
Status: 130 Emblems + All Extra Missions finished. I even played this game for a bit longer for a little bit of competition. Playtime around 130 hours.

10. Sonic Heroes                       8.5/10
Status: Super Hard Mode beaten + some extra playing for competition. I believe I have played this game more than 200 hours, maybe even more than 300 hours. This is possibly the game I have played mos in my life, except for maybe Diablo 2 (+ Expansion Set Lord of Destruction), but I'm not sure about that.

09. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (MS/GG)       8.9/10
Status: Crystal Egg Zone completed without using the save function of the emulator.

08. Sonic Adventure 2                  8.9/10
Status: More than 100 Emblems, but still far from completion. I think I've played this game around 100 hours. The fact that I still haven't played the 3D Green Hill Zone is killing me!

07. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles    9.5/10
Status: Finished with all three characters with all Super Emeralds without using the save function of the emulator.

06. Shadow the Hedgehog                9.5/10
Status: All keys collected and Expert Mode beaten. I'm not sure how long I've played this game. Since A-Ranking is much easier here and there are not so many useless extra missions, It is possible that I have actually played this less than 100 hours.

05. Sonic the Hedgehog CD             10.0/10
Status: Completed with all Time Stones.

04. Sonic the Hedgehog (MD)           10.0/10
Status: Completed with all Chaos Emeralds without using the save function of the emulator.

03. Sonic and the Secret Rings        10.0/10
Status: Level 99 with all Gold Medals and all Fire Souls and all the content of the Special Book unlocked, except for the 10 medals you earn by playing the Party Games and the Medal you earn by defeating Erazor Djinn below level 25. Total Playtime more than 100 hours. Right now, I am working on some competition.

02. Sonic Rush                        11.0/10
Status: All S-Ranks collected and also put quite a lot of effort in competition in all categories.

01. Sonic Rush Adventure              11.3/10
Status: Story Mode and all 100 missions completed, but I don't have all S-Ranks yet. I am trying to max all scores and as soon as I will be done with that, I'll continue competing in other categories, just like with Sonic Rush. Long live the Sonic Rush series!!! I'm sure I have played this game already for far more than 10 hours.

I would like to play the 3D version of the GHZ in Sonic Adventure 2 and I was wondering if it is possible to find a save game for it anywhere, and if yes, if there is any possibility to get the save data on my memory card for my gamecube.

Ah, thanks!

I have nothing against transdimentional story, as long as it is well thought through. It could even turn out to e awesmoe. But I really, really, really wished it was not turn based. I am really not fond of turn-based stuff. Oh well, I still hope it will turn out fun. QTEs are useless, but not really in the way either.

All those things that you describe as nonesence make absolute sence. Sonic Heroes and Shadow are not normal Sonic games. They are spin-offs and have the right to have features you usually don't see in a normal Sonic game. It's similar with Advance 3. The partner character gives you some additional skills which are usually useful for exploration. But if you don't like them, don't use them. You may have to select a partner character, but if you find your partner anoying and don't want to make any use of the special abilities she/she has, just let her/him fall behind. There is nothing absolutely nonesensical in any of those games.

As long as every of you narrow minded pesimists continue to say that Sonic games suck, of course, those who think different don't want to be around you anymore. That's exacly one reason why many users of Sonic forums (not only here) just leave those forums and why not many new people join them. You make them sick.

Even if you guys love it so much to bash down Sonic 06 because it had glitches, long loading times and bla, and even if you count Sonic Riders as a bad game for whatever reason, and even if you hate Shadow the Hedgehog for its gunplay and bla, and even if you hate Sonic Heroes for various reasons, and even if the Sonic Advance games wheren't your type, and even if you ignore the existance of Sonic Battle and Sonic Pinball Party, because they are good, but not normal Sonic games, the awesomeness of the two Sonic Rush games is undeniable. Also, Sonic and the Secret Rings is a game that not everybody can understand, but has very high quality, is very original, and once you really get into it, waaaaay awesome. But some people just seem to love to ignore these, because they love to hate Sonic these days. You, for example, instead of naming Sonic Rush Adventure, name Sonic Rivals 2, a game which is not even made by Sonic Team, is a racing game instead of a normal 2D Sonic game, is a PSP game, and hence noone really cared about it in the first place, when the first one came out last year. You deliberately pick up the unsuccessful games and totally forget about the successful ones and talk as if in the last few years all Sonic games have been extremely bad. Not to mention that all the recent games that have been put down so much have a lot of beautiful things about them, but not many people are able to realize that.

If you guys (just to make it clear, I haven't been directly speaking about Yse all the time, but all the people who have nothing better to do than say how much Sonic sucks) where really Sonic fans, you hadn't been using every opportunity to bruit to the world how much Sonic and Sonic Team and Sega suck these days, ignoring all their good games. If Sonic is dead to you, please just leave Sonic alone and don't frustrate other people so much who still love playing Sonic games. You are not doing any good to anyone.

I haven't played the original Nights, so I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about. But, it is impossible that you now can get infinite score! Why? Remember, the game has still a rank system. If you can get infinite score, than you also can always get the highest rank, which makes no sence, so, this just can't be the case. After all, if you can get infinite score, why should you have a score system at all? You can be sure that they don't add anything to the game that makes absolutely no sence. Play the games before you judge about them!
