Rules Revisions / Sonic the Fighters: Settings to be used
« on: February 17, 2007, 08:40:24 am »
I'm assuming it is Normal with a 2 match count with a normal energy maximum, right? I just need you guys to affirm this because it isn't in the rules or anything. Or can we select whatever we want? Iunno, it wasn't mentioned last time I checked.

It is quite fortunate that Rolken has not been paying attention to S2006 as of now, for a new download has just been released for S2006 that could have an impact on the way we compete. If you haven't heard the news, there is now a mode called Very Hard, which is downloadable at the price of 200 Microsoft Points per character. You're probably thinking, "Sega? Hard? Yeah right." or "Cheap bastards." Sure, both may be true to a certain extent, but the question here is not about the actual difficulty of the stages, but rather about what impact Very Hard should have on TSC rankings. I have only been able to play Sonic's missions so far, but I assume these differences also are similarly present in the Very Hard missions for Shadow and Silver.

Let's look at what seperates this from Normal and Hard:

-Stages now have a total maximum time bonus of 100000. Now consider the amount of enemies we have in these stages, and we have a MASSIVE score attack difference between Very Hard and the other modes.

-Some stages are actually played in a different fashion. This affects Time Attack as well as Score Attack capabilities. Let's use Wave Ocean as an example; part 1 begins at the end and ends at the beginning, although if you use Sky Gem (aka Gun Drive), you can simply hit the gate to get out of the stage. (Yeah, silly Sega, I know.) Another fine example is Sonic's Tropical Jungle, where after the usual stuff of part one, we are not sent to the regular part 2; instead, we are sent to a version of the Tropical Ruin which is accessible to the Sonic/Elise combo; this drastic change from the original Tropical Jungle would really change the way we play this stage. Oh, and there are other new changes too;  Flame Core is completed in reverse stage order, Dusty Desert is played without Elise, and a whole other assortment of random changes in stages.

-Some passages that were once accessible by glitch are now blocked. As of now, the only place where I experienced this was Sonic's Kingdom Valley part 2, but there might be more that I don't know of.

Now, I need to ask you guys a few questions so we can solve this problem:

1. Should Very Hard be added to the current ranking plan? (I'm sure most of you will say yes, but if you have an objection, go ahead and say it)
2. How will these be ranked?
3. If we are going to rank these, should they be in freestyle because they cost MS points and would be unfair to those who can't get them, or should they simply be added to the competition flat out because they're really a major part of the competition of S2006? Which one of these quotes do you agree with?

Quote from: F-Man
<F-Man> the game costs money, and then micropayments add to it
<F-Man> people shouldn't have to pay even more than regular price to have fair competition

Quote from: Rolken
(Rolken mentioned previously that Very Hard stats have their own rankings in the game)
<Rolken> ...I see no lack of fairness in them being counted
<Rolken> you have to spend $360+ just to compete anyway
<Rolken> $8 or whatever isn't going to kill anyone

Well? What's your view on this?

Gaming and Grazing / I Am Fucking Pissed
« on: November 16, 2006, 09:41:17 pm »
If you've been in the chat, you know why. If not, read on.

Basically, I'm DESPERATE for Sonic 2006. Of course, it'd be the only reason that I'd get a whole fucking new system, a wireless adapter, and 5000 other things just so I could play it. Sega is too lazy to actually port it to the Wii due to their obsession with graphics, and I'm just out of control because, despite the fact that I was just about to do this, my father redecided on letting my plans go ahead because of the fact that it'd be the only reason for a 360. I'm so angry because I have to wait another billion years just to wait for a game that might not even be good from what we know about it. There are no good games coming out until then, and Sonic 2006 is denied from me. And, not only that, as you can probably guess, my boredom level is at an all-time high.

Somebody help me or something. Give me something to do, help me in some way, Iunno. I'm just pissed off to hell, and I am totally lost as to what I need to do. That's all.

Board Games / itt we murder rpg
« on: November 11, 2006, 10:43:10 pm »
RPG has murdered TSC members for the years to come. Who couldn't help but get stuck on wallspikes only to have their spleen shoved down their anus a second later? We have all been murdered by RPG at least once, except for the "new" members and never-speak-at-alls like Eredani (who is SLOWLY, I repeat, SLOWLY recovering). But it's about time we had our revenge on this being. How to do that, though? It is widely accepted that he can get hurt, but it's also accepted that he can instantaneously revive himself over and over again. We're not going to exactly kill him, though... but read on and you'll like what we're going to do.

It's all relatively simple. RPG can experience pain, but he can revive himself over and over again. Using these two ideas, we can kill him over and over and over again to cause him ETERNAL PAIN. He may fight back brutally... but we can harness the power of action monologues, too. Have fun, kids!

Let me start to show an example...

* PsyBorg finds RPG and tells him what he's about to experience. RPG tries to nail PsyBorg to the wall, but, for once, actually misses! PsyBorg fights back and kicks RPG against a floor of glue that was set up in advance. RPG escapes by dropping his nailgun, but PsyBorg nails him to the wall with his own weapon. PsyBorg brutally beats up RPG with a chainsaw and waits for support to come in.

Don't be shy, kids. WE CAN DO IT!!!!!111

Gaming and Grazing / An interesting, unexpected event at Best Buy
« on: June 26, 2006, 01:46:53 pm »
I normally don't talk about RL much here, but something kinda cool happened today, so I thought I'd mention it and hear what you think of it.

My dad was browsing around Best Buy to see if there was anything cool or new. He wanted to take me along in case there was anything he wanted so I could see it. I hadn't been in Best Buy much, but I knew where the games section was, at least, so I headed over to there.

When I got there, I noticed two DS Lite stands; one contained a New Super Mario Bros. demo, and the other was, strangely enough, a DS Lite with no cartridges entered in. For fun, I fooled around with the settings so that, in case they used the same DS again, it wouldn't boot up the game from the start, and it would take me to the DS Main Menu. I looked around me to see if anyone was watching, but then I realized a sign saying it was to be used for the DS Download demos that I usually could download in my local Gamestop. I now knew it wasn't just for nothing, but of course I knew it was a stupid move by Best Buy because now people could hAx up the DS a little.

But in the middle of all of this, I got an idea, for I also had my DS packed with MMBN6 Falzar and Sonic Rush with me just in case my dad took a trip to some other place. I realized that I had never tested the Download function of Sonic Rush (because most of my friends don't have Rush, and the ones who do wouldn't be willing to "test out" anything), which could supposedly download a demo of the game to another DS. I thought about it, and attempted a download to the Best Buy DS Lite stand.

Obviously, it worked.

I was testing out everything the demo could supposedly do from what I knew. I played the demo until the end, and also did the Multiplayer function simply for the purpose of exploration. It was fun, but I wanted to check out what games they had for sale in Best Buy. Just for the fun of it, though, I left the Single Player Sonic Rush demo there for people to try out. However, that produced an unexpected result while I was looking around the DS section.

A kid, probably about age 5-7, came over to play the game. I could tell he was playing the demo I put there because of the music and SE I heard. He was there a good amoutn of time, and, after watching him for a minute or two, I must say, for a first-trying regular kid of that age, he wasn't half-bad at Rush. He got used to the basic controls pretty quick and had lots of fun. But soon, his mother came over to him. She asked if he found something he liked. The boy said, "YES!", and the mother responded with something like "are you absolutely sure?". The kid said "yes, please please please mommy", and  "okay, but this will come out of your allowance". Soon, they got a Sonic Rush box at the DS section and went over to the counter to buy it.

So basically, if you were too bored to read all of that, I bore witness to the fact that I was indirectly responsible for the purchase of one copy of Sonic Rush. I left the demo there for others to try just for the hell of it, and I wanted to see what would happen next, but I had to leave Best Buy for our shopping trip.

So? Comments? Flames? Lollerwats? Cools? Whatever. I just wanted to share that interesting experience.

Competition Central / Sonic R question
« on: June 10, 2006, 11:32:48 am »
Does the rule about "you must use Time Attack when possible" apply to Single/3 Lap? I noticed in the SR videos that Time Attack mode isn't used and GP mode is used instead.

Competition Central / Question about Sonic Advance 3 Boss Attacking
« on: May 13, 2006, 09:56:25 am »
I recently submitted an Ocean Base Boss record, but I suddenly realized that the rules say you have to use Time Attack modes when possible. Unfortunately, Boss Attack mode is probably one of the hardest things to get in the game, and I would like to know if the bosses are any different in Boss Attack mode than they are if regularly accessed from Single Player mode. kthx.

General Sonic / teh sonikku wildfyur infoz!!!!11
« on: May 12, 2006, 05:27:07 pm »
No story updates for Sonic Wildfire, but plenty of gameplay info.

Guess what? Sonic game only uses...

*EL GASPO*

one button for jumping and the Wii movement-sensors!

It seems rather "lol one button and movement input" in a Kirby Air Ride for now, as we don't know TOO much. It supposedly uses the Wii movement sensors for three things: one, dodging/moving left and right, two, attacking enemies (jump and then use a quick forward motion), and three, boosting, which is a two step process: one, collect a good amount of fire orbs, two, make a quick backward motion to get an insane boost.

There is NO free roam ability, unfortunately; Sonic is on a set path and always moves forward on it when possible. I haven't played the game myself (though I have heard about it), so I'm still not sure it'll be great, but it will prolly be fun nevertheless.

Do you think this would make a good control scheme and style of play for Sonic fans? I'm feeling a little "if, then" and "but then again", if you know what I mean, but I want to know what you guys think of this.

(P.S.: As a side note, I am now going to (responsibly) post in this forum, since Rolken moved my previous news topic to this forum anyway and I'm going to remember to post in the right forum this time. If you guys don't want me doing this, then just tell me.)

Competition Central / Dark bosses in Sonic Heroes

Help plz. I can't understand how the times are so fast, so give me a hint or two.

15
Well, Sega sounds like it's gonna have something promising, but I'm unsure how it'll work out.

The gameplay supposedly involves the return of the Adventure Field, along with stages which are reported to still be as Sonic-y as usual, though it's been reported that the camera is closer to the ground giving you a sense of speed, and that there will be many noticable paths instead of just one straightforward path. Nice from what we hear, eh?

Along with that, we have a brand new storyline. A rich princess of a royal family, Princess Elise, has found a Chaos Emerald and holds a "deep secret" from what we know. Eggman learns of her, how she has it, and captures her while also stealing her Chaos Emerald. Sonic soon knows of this and once again heroically attacks Eggman's forces. Along with that, we see a cream-colored Sonic-like character, who is supposedly Sonic's rival, look down and say "I've finally found it... the Iblis Trigger." Whatever the hell that means, of course it means that it'll have a good plotline twist as the story goes on. (As a side note, that character will also be supposedly playable along with Sonic.)

Sounds fanboyishly/fangirlishly unofficial, right? I thought so. But that's not true. Sega really is doing this.

As the topic title says, I'm impatient and I want to see how good my (and everyone else's) records are in Riders.

Until Rolken puts up the Sonic Riders scoreboard on the site, you can post your times here. You can use any gear and any character to get your time. And (sadly, because the game DOES indeed record your 3 Lap times), you CAN post 3 Lap times.

Competition Central / ShtH ring competition?
« on: February 10, 2006, 07:05:40 am »
I'm bored, and nothing seems to be happening in Shadow the Hedgehog. Nothing really seems to happen there nowadays, and it isn't as active. However, I suggest we put up a Rings section. We have not been given one yet, and I think it's about time that we got one if several other 3D games have one. Whaddya say?

Competition Central / Cheap ShtH Trick...
« on: January 28, 2006, 09:54:13 am »
Okay, there are indeed some various cheap tricks that were brought to my attention a while ago (thru GFs and RL). After seeing and actually trying out some myself, I simply don't think that these "tricks" should be allowed. One has already been blocked (the suicide glitch), but that's simply not enough, IMO.

You may or may not know this, but the Dark missions for Westopolis, Glyphic Canyon, The Doom, GUN Fortress, Lethal Highway, and Death Ruins have the potential for an almost infinite Dark score simply by continually reviving and killing a GUN Soldier.

As of now, we should do something about this trick in some way or another; I'd like to hear your suggestions.

Due to several reasons, I cannot go to the chat anymore, or be on here as often. This is because of several family-related reasons and other crap. This doesn't mean I won't be on, it simply means that I'll only be on the forums once every day and I won't be able to get scores ASAP.

Just a personal notice to my competitors. Don't think this means that you can win easily, though. :P

Competition Central / Central City: Dark: What's w/ the super fast times
« on: January 07, 2006, 09:45:04 am »
I have played Central City, and I know my way around the map well. I know for a fact that, unless there is something that would allow me to pierce the shielding around the bombs, it is impossible to get a time under two minutes and ten seconds. Four others seem to be doing it, even going BELOW one minute and thirty seconds. I won't say you're cheating yet, but I don't see how this is possible.

Is there ANY way to pierce the shielding around the bombs? If not, then it feels quite obvious that you guys are cheating, because even with the Shadow Gun and a full-speed runthrough, I can't even come close to this time.
