Leaderboard Disputes / Not To Be Nebby, But...

I noticed a user called " " getting 1:31 on Doomsday Zone. Can anyone verify that this can be obtained?

Beef / My Records Don't Show
« on: January 23, 2006, 09:02:18 pm »
I submitted some records for Sonic Chaos Rings Division (as well as a new EE1 Tails score) and none of these show up on the standings page for the categories, but do show up on my profile with a black bar reading "No Rank".

Is there an answer to this?

This time, it's the 275 Ring record for Knuckles on Carnival Night 2, a zone that is supposed to have only -130 rings in it. Here is my argument:

Before I get into this, I was using the Level Select option with no Emeralds. Therefore, I can't get big rings and if you did get big rings with all Emeralds, you can't refrain from using the Super/Hyper mode since you need the Glide.

Here is my argument:

1. I started the zone with no shield.

2. I went into the vacuum tubes and ended up on the spiral tube.

3. I bailed out of the tube right next to the three ring monitors and got those and the adjacent rings (Ring Count: 35).

4. I use the Spin Dash to get back onto the ledge and from there go back onto the spiral tube.

5. I bail out and land on a platform parallel to the ring platform and obtain 4 rings (Ring Count: 39).

6. I enter the secret passage in the area and hit both ring monitors and the water shield (Ring Count: 59).

7. I exit the other end and hit the ring monitor there (Ring Count: 69).

8. I reenter the passage and jump back onto the platform mentioned in step 5.

9. I get one ring under a vertical vacuum tube and end up on Sonic's course (Ring Count: 70).

10. I proceed through Sonic's course without any cutscenes (all scenes are out) and rack up a Magnetic Shield. All enemies are present. (Ring Count afterward: 275).

11. Because all cutscenes were dropped, this leaves a gap at the end. Since the game believes I'm Sonic and/or Tails, the Egg Capsule at the end was taken out.
Boss, on the other hand, is left on, oddly enough wearing the helmet that is unique to all Knuckles's bosses.

12. In order to reach the top of the tube to get to the boss, you must climb back up the tube you used to get down to Knuckles's end and then make a hard jump from the ledge and glide onto the top tube and start climbing up (you activate Super/Hyper Knuckles when you try to use the Glide with all Emeralds, breaking the Sonic Center rule about Super/Hyper modes not allowed).

13. I reach top of tube and engage Dr. Robotnik in the boss fight.

14. Because of Knuckles's small jump, he can only get one hit in each time Dr. Robotnik descends.

15. Boss is defeated and Knuckles opens Egg Capsule and uses the cannon to reach Ice Cap.

I have explained everything about how I did the record and this is as clear as I can get it. There wasn't even water in the half-glitched Carnival Night Zone 2. I also didn't have all the Chaos or Super Emeralds, therefore, I couldn't use the Super/Hyper modes.

No rules were broken in this entire run. You can try it too and it will prove that this can be done.

Leaderboard Disputes / Machine Mystery

From what I remember, Gene Gadget 3 of Sonic 3D Blast had a group of people who got 1:15. So I ask this:

How does one get two seconds under that to put it at 1:13.
While we are on the subject, how about 1:06 on Volcano Valley 2?
Or Gene Gadget 2 with 1:23? I had to struggle just to hit 1:36, so this one?

Might as well ask the record-holder who got these:

To explain this otherworldly and outlandish Egg Rocket record...with Sonic, no less... I will say the following:

- During the zone, two ? ring boxes yielded 40.

- In the first rocket, I missed the spring in midair toward the end and was able to grab the hanging pole under it to get back up and take the top path (I went with the bottom path first).

- In the second rocket, I held right as hard as I can bouncing off the spring the usually ends up making you hit an off-screen Mirror. As a result, I barely missed him.

- I held a magnetic shield from Rocket 1 through 1, all through 2, and lost it to thorns near the end of 3 (the third room from the exit of the stage).

- The hit on the thorns was the only time I got hit.

I can do a trace map if I can find an Egg Rocket map. Anybody know where I can get one?

Plus, since the incident involving XX Zone, I have made triple checks on each record and made a vow to follow the rules as they are mentioned (the entire run was on normal).

Competition Central / Sound Test Order (Sonic 3)
« on: December 03, 2005, 03:15:01 pm »
I was sitting there, listening to the sound test of Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) in sequence. The songs play in order chronologically (the order the zones appear in the game, starting with Angel Island 1), something I knew.

But why is it that the zone Flying Battery got misplaced back as zone 5 (rather than the ingame order's designation as zone 8)? Could be a glitch, but I think this may mean (40% sure) that Flying Battery may have been a former Sonic 3 zone that got switched to Sonic and Knuckles. Here is the total order the sound test puts the zones:

Angel Island 1 + 2
Hydrocity 1 + 2
Marble Garden 1 + 2
Carnival Night 1 + 2
Flying Battery 1 + 2
Ice Cap 1 + 2
Launch Base 1 + 2
Mushroom Hill 1 + 2
Sandopolis 1 + 2
Lava Reef 1 + 2 ("2" also being Hidden Palace)
Sky Sanctuary
Death Egg 1 + 2
Mini-Boss
Robotnik
Doomsday

Any explanation for FB's misplacement?

What is the glitch in Sky Sanctuary that gives you the small times? I managed to hunt down Sprint's video, but it doesn't work on my computer?

I have submitted two games ringwise (Sonic Advance and Sonic The Hedgehog 3). I currently have the records:

Sonic Advance:

Secret Base 1 with Tails (Rings): 156

Casino Paradise 1 with Tails (Rings): 92

Casino Paradise 2 with Tails (Rings): 1

Ice Mountain 1 with Tails (Rings): 76

Angel Island 1 with Tails (Rings): 97

Egg Rocket 1 with Tails (Rings): 19

Cosmic Angel 2 with Tails (Rings): 72

Total Rings (Tails): 800

This is quite amazing to me for my first time on the Sonic Advance record boards.

Hiya Folks / New Here
« on: November 22, 2005, 03:22:56 pm »
Hello. I am a rather longtime gamer of Sonic games, playing them for at least 10 years now and still going. I have most of, if not all, the major Sonic The Hedgehog titles for the Sega Genesis and most for the Game Boy Advance and GameCube. I always looked for competition in the games at times and scores and that's when I found this site. I do hope we can get to know one another and have a good time here. When I'm not playing through a good Sega game, I'm watching anime and talking on other internet forums. My favorite Sonic The Hedgehog zone (in general) is the Lava Reef from Sonic & Knuckles.
