« on: August 10, 2009, 02:11:39 am »
There will now be a 12-hour extension for Week 1, because some people somehow did not hear about it starting, so want to give everyone time. Week 2 times can still be gotten starting the normal time. So end time is now 12:01pm tomorrow PDT. So, everyone tell DsS to play! Also, everyone else play!

flyby's League / Summer League
« on: July 28, 2009, 08:29:33 pm »
Ok, I know it's taken me a while to get this running, but it's been a busy month. BUT! Summer league will be starting on Monday August 3 at 12:01am Pacific time (this is the same time the last league ran if you were involved in that one and figured out the difference for your time zone). There will be 4 weeks of normal league. Separate divisions have been dispensed. You simply will want to submit to at least 4 different levels each week to maximize your score potential. (Scoring will work similar, just based on 4 overall, not by division). There are 4 levels each week that should be emulatable, so that everyone should be able to submit 4 times each week.
To be honest, I will probably not end up getting the results hidden each week, so you may want to wait to submit, but I would encourage everyone to submit their times all week, and everyone can try and compete all week long!
There will be representation from a lot of games here, and I have tried to get help from people who play the games for choosing most of the levels, so hopefully they should be good choices. Week 1 Levels are up, but once again, only times gotten within the week will be elligible.
If you are participating with a team that did not participate in Spring League, tell me, and I will get you an account that you can submit with for Summer league. Any other questions, feel free to ask! :D

flyby's League / Interest in Summer League
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:43:52 pm »
Hey, just trying to figure out who is still interested in a Summer league. I know a lot of those from Spring don't want to continue on, so just trying to figure out who is interested. Would probably end up starting near the beginning of July. So, any and all possible interestees, please post. And also if you were in the Spring league and are interested in being in the summer league too, want to know that. I'll use this topic to discuss changes to the format as well (which will be tweaks more than anything), but just want to guage interest for now.

flyby's League / Round 2
« on: May 25, 2009, 02:49:08 am »
Hey, since I have to do levels based on these results, Round 2 levels should be up an hour or so after this round ends, and that is pretty much how it will run for all of the rounds. It gives you one less hour a week.

flyby's League / FINALS
« on: May 17, 2009, 02:53:24 am »
Ohai. This is your friendly league runner.
Round 1 levels are up. Weeks will run as they did for the league. Submissions will be due by the usual time. Please only submit to your division <_<.
If one person/team wins 1 level each, the winner of the round will be determined by who was closest as the 2nd place player. (ie, losing by 25" will beat losing by 2 seconds).
Also, for teams, each member is expected to do one of the levels. If there is a week where one person submits both times, the teammate who did not submit will be disqualified from continuing in the finals.
Anyway, so 24 hours!
Also thanks to werster for his help in picking tournament levels. :D

flyby's League / Regular Season Coming to a Close
« on: April 27, 2009, 02:41:52 am »
We're just about to start Week 5, and after that will be the final week of League :O :O :O. Thanks everyone for sticking it out. It's been pretty fun!
I'm gonna give you all a basic idea of how the finals are going to work. The top 16 players/teams will make it into the finals TOURNAMENT, and will be seeded according to their rankings. Each round will probably last 4-5 days (I may make this longer if people need them to be longer because of inability to compete in the time frame), and it will consist of two players/teams going to head, according to seed (1 vs 16, 2 vs 15 etc etc, works exactly like a March Madness bracket). They will be competing in one level (This format is still subject to change). How the level will be determined is yet to be determined. I am still trying to figure out a way to make it as fair as possible.
I'm also starting to think about the summer league, so any suggestions for changes or tweaks in format for the next league would be appreciated. I know Rolken has suggested that there should be less levels, so there will be more competition (especially on the 3D side), my concern being that it will leave people with the inability to compete at times. I also need a compendium list of levels that need to be avoided. I cannot keep track of all the PMs that I have discussing these things with people. I know where RR's is for SSR, but any other game, I would love a list of levels to stay away from for the Summer league. As a note: a glitch-based time is not a reason to stay away from a particular level. If the glitch is luck-based to the point where no one has any idea how to get it, then yes, it could be considered. Basically, give a justification for the level to not be included as well. (-hunting- is a sufficient reason for hunting levels >_>).
Thanks everyone for your participation. :D It's been fun~

flyby's League / Welcome to the new League Subsite!
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:22:33 pm »
Things are still really wonky, and I am aware of most of the stuff, so if you would save your observations until I have announced that things are fully functional, hopefully most of your concerns should be taken care of! In the mean time, teams please get into contact with me to set up your account for you to be able to submit for the League subsite. Get together and decide on a password together, and then you can give that to me. Thanks~
And everyone thank Rolken and Gerbil for making this subsite possible! :D It will make you get your results very quickly in the weeks to come, so be sure and thank them!

flyby's League / flyby's league
« on: March 24, 2009, 02:44:35 am »
This league will be 6 weeks of normal competition followed by 2 weeks of finals, starting Monday, March 31, so long as everyone seems ready. Details for the finals are to follow.
Each week, there will be a selection of a number of 2D levels, and a number of 3D levels. You may participate in as many of these levels as you want. Scoring for individual levels will work as follows: first place will always get 10 points. The rest will be determined by the number of players, thus getting 2nd in a level where there are 10 players will be better for you than getting 2nd in a level with 3 players. (If you want more details on specifics, PM me on #soniccenter, and I can tell you individually. If there are lots of people who are curious, I might make another post about it).
For the overall scoring for the week, each person (or team) has a total of “2 levels” for each division (2 2D, 2 3D) that they can submit in. This just means that if you submit for 4 2D levels, each level will be worth ½ level. Thus if you get the following scores on the levels – 10, 8.5, 7.5, 5.5 (total 31.5), those will be worth 5, 4.25, 3.75, 2.75 (15.75 out of a possible 20), because each is worth ½. You can compete in as many levels as you want for each division, and it will be calculated accordingly.
In addition to the baseline scoring, there will be achievements that can earn extra points (beyond the max 40 per week) that can be earned each week. There will be some achievements that will be available the entire time, but there will also be new achievements that come out each week with the league levels for the week. (I am still looking for ideas for achievements, so if you have ideas, PM on TSC or #soniccenter. One thing I know there will an achievement for is competing in a game that you have not submitted a level for before in the league).
Submissions (just a stat) are to bemade to me by PM on TSC, or an email to writecrazy@gmail.com. Submissions via PM on irc will not be accepted. through the league subsite. The deadline for submitting each week is Sunday night midnight PDT. (GMT-7). I will make a list of levels for the week available Saturday night. This is only for the purpose of allowing teams time to communicate. The round officially starts Monday 12:01am PDT, so any times gotten on Sunday should not be submitted. (The purpose is to give teams time to discuss and divide the levels).
Teams get one submission per level, so you choose one or the other to submit a time for it. Each team member must submit to one level each week, but otherwise, you can divide it up however you want.
So continue signing up, and look forward to a post Saturday night with the levels to be started on Monday!

Gaming and Grazing / League Ideas
« on: March 07, 2009, 06:31:43 pm »
Ok, so with RPG's league nearing to an end, I have been considering starting another league, with a few changes.
I have a few different ideas, and want to know who might be interested in participating, and other various things. So first off, if you are interested in participating, respond to this post or PM me in #tsc or something, and also I want to know what games people have access to (especially 3d games).
I am also considering doing teams, so 2 players could team up and split the levels between the two of them (I was thinking prolly a 2d player and a 3d player, but you could split it up however you wanted, though prolly do half and half of the levels as much as possible--rulings on that to come later). So I want to know if teams are something that people would be interested in. The other possibility being having different divisions, and you could be part of the 3D division or the 2D division (or both if you wanted, I suppose), and then have some sort of finals where they would compete against each other, but I am really leaning toward the team idea, unless people really don't like it.
I am thinking that less levels would be good, perhaps 2 a week (4 if we have teams), and having a greater coverage of games. So pretty much anything that can be emulated on a computer would be free game for 2D (and things on Mega Collection/Gems if everyone has them), and then 3D, I will have to see if we have enough games that everyone has, or we might have to divide it up and split it a different way.
Anyway, if people have any ideas for league that should not be spoiled, please PM me. I will prolly do a lot of conferring with werster for 2D, Parax for 3D, but anyone else who would be interested in being a consult, just tell me, and I will confer with you also.
That is good for now. So, just tell me if you're interested in participating, what 3D games you have access to, and what you think about how it should be setup (if you have an opinion). ~ :D

So I'm technically not supposed to go onto chat/IM programs while I'm working, so I am making this thread so you can all entertain me in the forums. Humor me at least today, as it's my birthday!

Gaming and Grazing / Activities for TSC Convention
« on: January 29, 2009, 04:21:38 am »
Ok, so here is a topic for ideas of what should be done at the Convention. Actual details and final decisions will not be made by me, but in order to figure out logistics and what sorts of things would be needed, I want this planning to start. So...ready go.

Wikkity! / First (for most) and last call for Postcard requests~
« on: January 15, 2009, 09:20:40 pm »
Hey,
I asked in chat...like once, I think, so I know there are like two people who wanted postcards, but if there are any requests, make them known! I will buy and send postcards tomorrow hopefully, so...there you go~. I will ship them off to anywhere in the world so anyone can request a postcard!

Gaming and Grazing / TSC Convention
« on: January 05, 2009, 08:14:55 pm »
Mike claims he is coming to America next January, and will be pissed at all of us if we do not attempt a TSC Convention. And since you boys have all talked about this a number of times and failed to get it to happen, I want to know how many people are actually serious about wanting to do something like this.
So yes, TSC Convention will take monies. There have been a few discussions as to where to have it. I have offered our house, but we are also willing to travel if there is another person/place that would be better to have such an event.
Ok, so gathering information...
1 - who would like to come that might have $300-400 accrued by next January to afford a plane ticket to somewhere, or to help pay for gas if I can arrange car poolingish (overseas people, you can figure out how much money you need >_>)
2- who would be willing to drive themselves and other people to a TSC Convention
3 - who has a location where this could be hosted
4 - not really much hopes for this one, but does anyone have extra money lying around to sponsor people who don't have money~
5 - you want to come and could work it out with parents/schedule, but just don't have money
As in, the main advantages I see to hosting the convention here at our house is that we would have room (albeit it would be packed if lots of people came) for people to stay, thus people wouldnt have to pay for hotels. I could pick everyone up and drop everyone off at the airport, thus no cars would need to be rented, and if everyone just wanted to pitch in a bit for groceries, I could cook food for us all.
But...if people are better able to travel somewhere else, then me and Rolken can go wherever.
Also if you don't want to respond to the topic, you can PM me details or whatever. I just more want to get an idea of if there is enough genuine interest and motivation in a TSC Convention to go through the effort of trying to make it happen.

Wikkity! / Back by Popular Demand...Rolken/flyby meet someone from TSC - Tonight: Stefan
« on: November 10, 2008, 12:19:51 am »Us making our Stefan picture faces.
Srs business.
ITT Rolken sucks at taking pictures. But, I thought it was a funny picture anyway :(
So, it was fun meeting Stefan. I liked the green chile - granted I am not yet addicted, and as I do not live in New Mexico, this may be a good thing >_>. I love meeting people from TSC. I was so excited just waiting in a random parking lot of a mall in Albuquerque that we were getting to meet Stefan.
Memorable moments - Stefan loving to touch his jacket over and over again. Rolken asking me before we met "What is Stefan's real name?" Coercing Stefan into drinking our lemonade. Watching Stefan lip sync to Cher.
Eh...can't remember them all, been too long :P

Wikkity! / ITT TSC learns to Cook!
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:38:19 pm »
I was making something today, and it is fairly easy, and uber tasty. SJ had mentioned wanting to learn to cook, and so did soniham. So...I may occasionally post things I have made in here, with pictures and recipes, and any tips desired.
So for our first recipe-- Petite Pasta Salad
serves 4 to 6
One 7 oz. package tiny pasta stars or alphabet shapes
1 cup frozen corn
8 oz. sugar snap or snow peas, cut into bite-size pieces
One cucumber, peeled or not as desire, cut into bite-size pieces
One tomato, seeded and diced
½ a red or orange bell pepper, diced
One 2.25 oz. can sliced black olives, rinsed and drained
½ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 to 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar, to taste (the smaller amount of vinegar may appeal more to children with sensitive palates)
1 teaspoon white balsamic vinegar
Salt and white pepper, to taste
Bring a medium saucepan of water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook until just barely tender, about 2 to 3 minutes. During the last minute, add the frozen corn and chopped sugar snap or snow peas.
Drain the pasta, corn, and peas and rinse well with cold running water. Drain.
In a large mixing bowl, toss the pasta, corn, and peas with the rest of the vegetables and fresh herbs.
In a small bowl whisk together the olive oil, vinegars, salt, and white pepper. Pour over the pasta salad and toss together until well combined. Taste and adjust seasonings according to taste.
Okay!!
So like, there are things that are changeable in recipes, and things that aren't. This recipe is pretty forgiving. Like you will want pasta, some sort of oil, and some kind of vinegar, and then some assortment of veggies. So for this recipe, I use it more as a guideline. (With baking, it is much more important to be exact with stuff).
I like to use Orzo pasta instead of Stars or Alphabets. I've used both red wine vinegar and basalmic vinegar making this. I never put olives in, because I don't like them. Today I tried putting the basil and cilantro in, though I am not sure I don't like it better without.
Oh, also - any questions about how to cook pasta? I assume that would be the only thing really not known about making this. As like, cutting veggies and mixing should be fairly obvious, I think?
Also if anyone has any requests for things for me to teach to make, I will try making them or whatever. Though all meat things, and some other things will have to wait a month or two until I am gone from Texas. If anyone tries making it, tell me!

« on: September 27, 2008, 10:03:11 pm »
On another forum I used to go to, there was this guy who was sending out random packages to people who wanted them. I don't have the funds to do a lot immediately, but I was thinking about doing some, so if you are interested in receiving one, reply or send me a PM!

Wikkity! / Politics Blog
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:59:29 am »
I don't care if you are British, Australian, or some other crazy America-hater, I want your input too!
I started a blog a while ago. Anyway, if you're at all not interested in politics because it is scummy and stupid, then I am looking for your help. Or if you like politics, I want your views also. Really, I just want to know what people think, and more ideas of things to discuss. So without further ado, you can follow me to my politics blog.
And Rolken will ban you if you don't go. Jk :(

Competition Central / ITT: flyby rocks everyone's socks
« on: November 06, 2005, 04:36:33 pm »
Everyone should go and admire in wonder my first submission. Should you care to check it out - it is Palmtree Panic 1. 25:45. YAY! And everyone can be even more amazed at this small fact - that I have beat our dear beloved SM. Wonder and amazement may now commence.

As I was in the chat, and thinking about all the peoples from all the different countries, and thinking about the people from the UK and Australia, we probably all have accents to each other, but on the internet, like when I read stuff, everyone has an American accent in my head. I just found this interesting.
But then there are rare occasions where people use words in a totally different way, and so the accent is more obvious. Like when the UKers were saying "bins", which I eventually figured out meant trash can.
