Title: Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Rush
Post by: Cybrax on October 24, 2005, 07:33:58 pm
What do you think of these games?  I am not to happy about shadow the hedgehog, and I dont know that much about sonic rush.

Hahaha Rolken will have to do more work to set up the rankings for those games in a couple of weeks.

Don't forget Sonic Riders, which is coming out the start of 2006.

Anyway, I agree with you that Shadow the Hedgehog is gonna be not good.

Sonic Rush seems like an alright game.

Riders is kinda like a mix between Sonic R and Sonic Drift and Wipeout. That might be kinda fun. Pretty different.

I can't wait until Sonic The Hedgehog, coming out for XBOX 360 and PS3. I can't wait to see actual screens for it and not just a tech demo.

There are my two cents.

I'm actually intregued by Shadow the Hedgehog and I'm looking forward to it. The Camera is promised to be fixed so that's already a plus. Sure you have guns, but it's a new thing to the game to use reallife weaponry and I'm willing to try it out. Also, I've watched a demo of Shadow the Hedgehog at a Best Buy store and I didn't see any timers or score counters. I hope those aren't left out, if so then Rolk lucks out on that.

Sonic Riders, meh. More new characters already = suckage. I did like Drift though. :o

Sonic the Hedgehog looks, I saw some early trailers of it and it looks pretty damn good, but I don't wanna pay for a $400 system. D:

Sonic Rush looks like and Advance game. I don't care much for the Advance series, so I don't care much about Rush. The game should have been what was meant to be, like when the DS was still indevelopment where Sonic had a 3D world to explore... :(

I'm probably getting Shadow the Hedgehog.
I don't think the gun alone can ruin the game.
We'll have to see if the game gets wrecked by anything else.

Sonic Rush is for DS, so I can't get it. I agree with sonicam.
The 2-D games are good, but I prefer the Adventure series.
Those screenshots in NP looked cool.
Sonic and the rings looked as smooth as in Sonic Adventure.
(which must be embarrassing for whoever "enhanced" the graphics for SADX)

Sonic Riders might be good. I don't really know anything about it yet.
I wonder how fast it will be. I'm guessing that it will be way slower than
FZGX, but way faster than StH or SA. (At least I hope so. MKDD was as fast as SA!)

What's this about the new Sonic game being released for only 2 new systems?
First, Nintendo got the most Sonic stuff (SA, Mega Collection).
Then, SEGA started releasing Sonic games on every system. (SH, SMC+)
(I don't mind that, except it doesn't help when I try to explain why I like GC.)
Now, they're not giving Revolution anything???
That's a big mistake. Don't they know how many Nintendo players want it? (1, at least! :p )

Unless Sony is making some big changes*, there's no way I'm getting PS3.
I'm probably not getting XBox 360, either.

*such as setting up better warranties and making products that don't break so easily

I'm getting both because they are Sonic games >_>

I-'m really looking foward to Shadow the Hedgehog. I'm just hoping this game gets really challenging. BTW, the timers and score counter are on the top center of the screen. Speaking of gameplay, there's a bunch of new trailers at ign.com.
-Sonic Rush looks really promising. To be honest, now is the perfect time to buy a DS since a big wave of high quality games has either come out (Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, which was one of the most hotly anticipated handheld games of the year and was my reason to get a DS) or are being released real soon (Sonic Rush and both new Mario games).

I am so hot for Sonic Rush. If you want to be too, read this (http://www.gamerz-edge.com/ds/reviews/sonicrush.html) or watch this (http://rolken.soniccenter.org/sonic/sonic_rush_092205_wmvlow.wmv) (unfortunately low res, if anyone has a better copy send it up).

Sonic Rush retreads familiar territory, where zone hubs didn’t exist, Chao collecting was unheard of, and level design reigned supreme.
NO FUGGIN CHAO! IT'S A CELEBRATION!

That review's got me drooling, Rolk. I really need to get a DS for that now.

Oddly though, that one zone reminds me of Sandopolis...

I'm actually interested in Shadow too. Its site says you can still get bonus points if you finish quickly. You have to think there'll be a time attack mode though; what new Sonic game doesn't have one?

I don't want this. I NEED this to live :P

Speaking of points, you’re graded on your performance at the end of each level. Your letter grade (C, B, A, or S) depends on four scoring categories: Time Bonus, Trick Bonus, Ring Bonus, and Speed Bonus.
I'm wondering how difficult the S ranks will actually be. If that review is strictly correct, there're no longer any D/E ranks; I hope it isn't just grade inflation (old E = new C, old C = new A/B?)

I'm also curious as to what this 'Speed Bonus' is, since it lists both that and Time Bonus. Maybe your average velocity? (eg. taking a longer route would penalize your time bonus, but not speed bonus) That could lead to some really interesting competition in that category, since the shortest route wouldn't necessarily be the fastest route.

Only for Score Attacking or S Ranking :P

Us TAers would just take the short route and care less about the Score :P

*Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead!!!*
For those who haven't read this information on other sites (in my case, the thread on gamefaqs that revealed part of the text from the manual), an explanation for Shadow glowing blue or red has been revealed. The glow is triggered by completely filling up either the light side gauge or the dark side gauge. This glow signals a transformation in Hero/Dark Shadow, and grants unique powers. When in this state, the gauge drains until there is nothing left.
-Hero: Invincibility
-Dark: Unlimited ammo.
-Note: Chaos Control and Chaos Blast don't require the gauge to be full. Chaos Blast costs about 1/2 a gauge. Chaos Control doesn't have a direct cost, but it drains the light side gauge. However, you can cancel this move at any time. During boss battles, this move instead slows down time.
-Commentary: Just like KOTOR and even Fable, I find the light side powers in this game to be more useful overall than the dark side powers.

Bzzt. Go read the manual again. Invincibility and unlimited ammo are traits of both Hero and Dark Shadow, it is the specials and anything they decided not to list that differs/may differ between versions of Shadow.

Rolken's going to need a lot of help setting up the new competitions within the next week. I'll try to help out with StH. *Spoliers Ahead, mostly designed to help out and to get people excited about competing in this game*
-The way the stage paths are formed, there are 4 stages on the top and bottom rows, 6 on the upper/lower middle rows, and 7 on the middle row, giving a total of 27 stages. The final level of each row, the other 3 stages on the top/bottom rows, and the 1st stage of the upper/lower middle rows will only have a hero and a dark mission. The rest will also have a neutral path. This gives a total of about 68 things to time attack in, give or take a few if my calculations are off. This doesn't include the boss battles, although it has been confirmed that some bosses will be fought more than once. However, the terrain and tactics change depending on what stage you fight the boss in question at. IMO, the tables should be organized from left to right, then from top to bottom, then by the alignment of the mission in that respective stage.
-I just preordered this game today. For an additional $5 fee, my copy (gamecube version) comes with a StH ski cap.

Are you sure this game will be TAable? From the trailers I've seen I haven't seen a Timer counter nor a Score counter. D: But you seem to keeping up to date with the game so I guess it's confirmed.

Wtf? There is a timer and a score counter. Actually, scratch that. There is a timer and three score counters.

Plus the end of level screen gives you everything you'd expect at the end of a Sonic level: Time, Score, Time Bonus, Total and Rank.

Agreed. Also, for those wanting a more graphical representation of what he's talking about, go to the official (http://www.sega.com/gamesite/shadow/base.html) Shadow site and hit Stages.

I don't think I've ever preordered anything. Is the $5 on top of the $50 you pay for the game? If so, I don't think I ever will.

This discussion brings back old memories. I was the first person to bring information of StH to this site *remembers original trailer*. I also remember being one of the only people who looked at this game with an open mind during the first two weeks of the initial discussion (the shock of seeing Shadow with a pistol was still strong in the Sonic community during this time). With that aside, expect me to compete in StH with the same intensity and determination that I did with SH.
-Final note: If we find any glitches that raise any of the super move gauges up quickly (mostly Chaos Control), we need to move such tricks to Freestyle asap.

No. Blame idiot fans who use silly acronyms for silly acronyms. If you use 'StH' for Shadow the Hedgehog, or, infinitely worse, use SAdv for *anything*, I will mock you.
