Title: Accents
Post by: flyby on July 11, 2005, 11:56:15 pm
As I was in the chat, and thinking about all the peoples from all the different countries, and thinking about the people from the UK and Australia, we probably all have accents to each other, but on the internet, like when I read stuff, everyone has an American accent in my head. I just found this interesting.

But then there are rare occasions where people use words in a totally different way, and so the accent is more obvious. Like when the UKers were saying "bins", which I eventually figured out meant trash can.

I don't really read accents from text... but if I were to do an impression of Mike or Andy, it would probably sound like Irwin (they'll hate me for that). And any US user would get my standard, very poor, US accent. =/

Eh, making accents appear online is kind of a pointless activity. However, I can do a very bad, mangled British or Aussie accent at times. The Brit one usually comes after listening to the Beatles, oddly.

To Spinballwizard: Oh, my point wasn't that we should make accents appear online, but just that it's odd that I read all of these people with the same kind of accent I have, but that is way off. It's just funny to me.

I don't imagine any accent while reading. There's no voice in my head talking while I read.

I live here in Georgia with Cybrax and Rayku...nobody seems to have a southern accent. Maybe they do, but I don't notice. Oh well. Rayku makes fun of voice from time to time...I don't know why though...

Yeah, I hear myself when I read.

Andy: I know y'all don't sound like him... but still, he's easy to impersonate. Bonza!
