Under Dx and a few other sonic games, I think it might be a good idea to have records for rings collected. It wouldn't work for sab2, but in Dx the random ring containers make it so there are no maximum ammounts of rings you can collect in a level. It would work, I tested it out in emerald cost, and the variation was huge (367 rings-530 rings!)and in the gamegear games, the levels are so big u can't really collect all the rings. I know that you're working on game gear times, but after that, maybe a section for rings collected :)

You could also have a section for rings on S2 bonus levels.
Yes, but it would have to be sonic alone or tails alone, Because tails could collect more rings if a second player played as him, or as he usually does, cost you several rings by hitting the spikes/bombs.

That's already a restriction for normal levels anyway.

Am I the only one who doesn't think this is a very good idea? Meh, do as you wish...

While I think that Sonic games should stick to the speed-runs, if you want to include a rings section, it'll add a whole new dimension to the records section. I think, though, that you'll find some people will do it to get new records, and others will not be bothered. I, for one, can't be bothered to waste my time playing for rings in any levels other than Emerald Hill 1 & 2.
Side note: Don't forget that in Sonic 3&K, you could get 999 rings on any level, assuming you get to 4 lampposts or more.

Or if you get ONE lamppost with 20 rings and end up really lucky.

Not wrong there, but it's much safer to use the electric ball thingies to get to the top and collect your 200-300 rings. I always exited straight out of those silly casino-night-style bonus levels.
