Any version of the game is allowed. The goals for this are:
1) Beat the game as Sonic: 5
2) Beat the game as Shadow: 2
3) Beat the game as Silver: 1

On the note of version, will PS3 be getting any kind of head start? if installed on the 360 it saves about 9 minutes 30 seconds over PS3 on sonic's story. However, I don't know how much time the other 2 stories lose being on PS3.

Unfortunatly we don't wait/Save time for other users. People raced generations on PS3 (Crap load times) and on PC (amazing load times) and 360 (average) and we still raced.

I vote sonic however i'm just conscious that it might take far too long to complete the whole game, the TSC record total for sonic story is 84'20"897 by Paraxade. How long would a single segment run take?... I dont want to be spending much more than 2hours on the race..

Unless it takes you about 8 minutes to do every level it won't take more than two hours. Most Sonic levels (sadly that's most likely gonna be chosen :( ) are 4 minutes long if you are inexperienced at the game. Bosses take about 3 minutes too.
If we buy the sky gem, can we do the glitch in Egg Wyvern?

No, it takes 84 minutes to complete Sonic's TSC Chart. In story, only certain missions are chosen, and "Hard"/"Very Hard" is ignored as they aren't even touched in the story. If you don't know how story mode works in '06, or if you've never even finished it/played it, racing it is a highly unadviseable option that you do as you are going to spend more than 2 hours just trying to figure out what to do. (Loading screen time not included)

I'm sure you didn't take 4 minutes to finish stages on your first playthrough for each level. It would've been 6-12 minutes each. I know it took me 30 minutes jsut to get through DD-Si for my first time, and now 11 minutes subsequently because of that one fucking ball.

ive completed the game but that was about a year ago, if anyone knows of a good single segment run that i can watch that would be great :) and levels took me about 6-12 minutes to do, but that was before i became a recklass speed runner :p, i dont know how i'll do tbh, i always messed up when sonic said "we'll have to speed up!" and then u died if you crashed into a wall D:

It optimally takes a bit over an hour, can take an hour or two longer if you aren't familiar with the game.

Can you replay the whole stories in Story mode? I don't think you can? So beating Shadow or Silver's will take Sonics time to unlock + the story
