Title: Race Night 2: Sonic Heroes
Post by: flying fox on September 16, 2012, 09:53:04 am
I have picked the top 5 games that has the most competitors on TSC, so hopefully we'll have more people racing. You have till Tuesday 5pm EDT (10pm for the Brits, 7am for Aussies) to vote for your favourite game. Shortly after that I will post some goals for the chosen game.

I know Unleashed is a very long game, we can easily set short goals for it.

Another thing I want to know since this was brought up on IRC: is everyone happy with race night being once a week with alternate 2D/3D races or would you like it twice a week? Oh and is there anyone who would be interested in racing Sonic hacks? Comments please!

I'll see what I can do about SRB2 races.

Right I just got told that SA2B is being re-released on PSN/XBL and steam. I have some people who would rather race it when it comes out. Would you guys prefer it if we held off SA2B till it's out so more people can race it? If so then once it's out we will race it, there will be no poll around the time it comes out.

Yes, that's fine for me since I'll be bonering about the release anyway and having my own mini-race with Groudon to get all the achievements. That is of course if he still wants to.

I would much rather wait until it's re-released, plus I'm sure more people would be interested in running it when the game gets re-released. (also my GC disk doesn't read half the time >_>)

Unleashed is terrible for a full-game run. Medals + leveling system completely ruins it.

SA2 would be good but it makes more sense to wait for the HD version to come out next month imo.

Umbreon that's why we usually race goals like "all day act 1's" or something.

Ok about the re-release, SA2B is staying in the polls. If it's get chosen we will race it. Once the re-release comes out, I will put it in the polls again and if it gets chosen, we'll make sure the previous goal isn't listed in the goals section. For example, if hero story was raced last time, for the re-release we will race dark story.

Voted for based Sonic Heroes, game is too good. I'd race any team, obv prefer Chaotix but the game is too good.

I'd also like to further the push for SA2B to be around the re-release date, as I want to be one getting it around then too.

I swear it wasn't like that when I looked at it, but then again I've been working really hard lately so I'm not surprised I slipped up there :P

I know I said this earlier, but a lot of people are saying they want to race it, when it's re-released. So yeah we're racing it on the 6th October.

Edit: Please only vote if you're actually participating since it won't be fair to the people who actually want to race.

Hate to be a noob, but do I need streaming capability to participate in these race nights? Not so much for this week, as I can't enter this week because my copy of Sonic Heroes is approximately 200 miles away, but I would like to do Sonic Adventure 2 in a fortnight. I have no capture card so I can't basically...well, I can do a sucky webcam on TV thing, but that will just look horrible.

For 2D games I should be fine either way as long as it's something I can run in an emulator, though with 2D I'm probably only interested in the Mega Drive games anyway, I'm far too sucky at the portable games to even consider trying.

Since we're doing race nights at SRL, I think I heard that it is best to stream incase someone calls BS on you, but it's really up to you. I did have a look at SRL and saw this:

Quote
Can I play on an emulator?

If the emulator is accurate and the community for that game accepts emulator as a valid choice, then yes, you can. If you play on emulator you are required to stream. This should be no problem because you can simply capture a screen region.

This isn't hard to set up if you use xsplit.

Well given that I won't be anywhere near in contention for winning the race for SA2B, I think it should be fine to not stream for that then.

Oh Im still kinda new here and Im not sure what is this but it sounds nice.

I was meant to post this a few days ago but completely forgot...

So, the S3K turnout wasn't the best, especially given the initial interest. Are we sure the time is the best? I know from talking to people specifically this time doesn't work for either Strong Bad or Shadow Jacky who both would otherwise race Heroes. I know it being an hour earlier would work for them for this week, and I'd be fine waking up at 6am (~_~) to get more people in this race.

Obviously don't want to just change the time without deliberation, but just making sure that we get maximum people in! Food for thought for the future???

The main reason for the time is to attempt to be fair to people in all regions. Americans are fine either way, but much later isn't too fair to UK people and much earlier isn't too fair to Australians.

Of course, that was just the thinking behind it. In actual practice, do we actually have any Australians other than you? If you're willing to get up earlier then I don't see why not :P

I'm actually not sure I can attend even if it's an hour earlier, more things decided to come up for me tomorrow, so don't change the time for my sake. Thanks though. Was looking forward to racing Heroes, I started learning routes the other day too. :/

The irc is where the chat is. Go to http://speedrunslive.com/race/?id=vtzoi (http://speedrunslive.com/race/?id=vtzoi) to watch the race. It seems to be starting late.
