Title: Chaos.Control
Post by: Rolken on January 21, 2009, 02:37:38 pm
Chaos.Control submitted ring records for all S1 stats, including an untied 253 on SL1, 239 on SL2, and 163 on SB3. Given that SL1 only has 223 rings in the entire level, I think we're going to be requiring proof or a strat here. Strats can be sent to me personally without fear of them getting out to actual competitors.

edit: Apparently my SL1 sources were erroneous, but I still have to require some kind of evidence just because of the rate of bad submissions we've been getting lately :(

I think 163 on SB3 from a newcomer requires some sort of proofs, I think.

I would actually like to see this myself too.

Hi, guys. Most of these stats are old actually. They were made on my Sega MegaDrive. The only new ones are LZ1 107 Rings because I had the REV00 version back then and SBZ2 247 because I saw SkyLights's video with the cool crusher trick and I got interested in this game again ^_^ 163 Rings on SBZ3 is kind of new but it was done on my Sega as well. It took me days to get them and I actually did it only one time. I will record SLZ1 SLZ2 and SBZ3 then I have time and post it on YouTube.

Cool :)  To be going on with could you describe your ring strats - in particular SB3, since I obviously know the correct one and can validate it?

I wonder: can the Starlight glitch have anything to do with this video I've just found:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOW4ZUC3Q8Y (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOW4ZUC3Q8Y)

This particular place doesn't accomplish anything useful, but maybe others?

I tried using that glitch to get a better time but none of the levels have a useful one near enough to the main route.

didn't even think about using it to get more rings.

I've watched careterro's video yesterday where he gets 161 rings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LMhixEUzyA  My strat is the same but with a minor difference. To collect the 18 rings at 2:50 I'm using a burrobot by waiting for him to jump down in order to hit him and collect all the rings.

Yes that is the glitch I'm using. I've found it long ago by accident and shortly after I realized that it can be very useful for collecting all the rings. Damn I wanted to show it firs T_T. Oh well I'll make the videos that I've promised anyway.

Just as fuzzerd, I didn't even think about using it for more rings. For the creativity alone, AWSUM!
... a lot of pointless show-off is right...

Alrighty, that works. You've clearly found a new strat. There's some concern in chat that that vid could be a TAS due to some of the risky orbinaut thrashings that you wouldn't normally see in a ring run, but I think that's starting to tip the balance between having solid charts and not requiring burdensome standards of proof too far. It looks like you're playing on an emulator, so in future runs if you could use gens+ and attach a giz movie that would be appreciated.

It's always great to see new players come in with fresh strats on well-worn games.

I think I understand how he killed these orbinauts now so its possible it isn't a TAS.

I can replicate those kills 2/5 at the moment...

regardless, it proves that it's very doable...

AWESOME vid...  welcome to TSC! >_>

Woa!!! Awesome dude, you're one of these examples where one great stat is called into question and the player is not BSing. Congrats and be very welcome to TSC :)

Finally done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeURGt5ENpk&fmt=22 Thanks to all and sorry for the late reply but I have been busy (well not that busy but I got carried away with some score attacking).  btw I found a way to get 269 Rings on SLZ3 so that will be the next video.

As for killing the orbinauts I though it would be more entertaining. With a lot of practice and a decent strategy it's possible. I'm playing with Gens Movie because it's easy to record with it so I hope it's not a problem if the replay is .gmv

^ Well, .giz or .gir files from the emulator Gens+ are the preferred method of proof, since Gens+ allows recording but little in the way of TAS options. Then again, I haven't watched the video, so I'm just stating a possibility, not claiming TAS tricks.

Oh wow.
That leaves only two (I think) levels where we can't get all rings: LZ1 (107 out of 110) and SB3 (163 out of 168).

Getting all rings on these doesn't seem to be possible, but you can dream...

It was also mentioned in chat that recording an AVI in a non-gens emulator would be pretty much 100%, but I don't know what would be required for that.

I prefer Hypercam2 to Camtasia, less setup and easier to use IMO, just thought Id add that >_>
