Title: TSC Convention
Post by: flyby on January 05, 2009, 08:14:55 pm
Mike claims he is coming to America next January, and will be pissed at all of us if we do not attempt a TSC Convention. And since you boys have all talked about this a number of times and failed to get it to happen, I want to know how many people are actually serious about wanting to do something like this.

So yes, TSC Convention will take monies. There have been a few discussions as to where to have it. I have offered our house, but we are also willing to travel if there is another person/place that would be better to have such an event.

Ok, so gathering information...

1 - who would like to come that might have $300-400 accrued by next January to afford a plane ticket to somewhere, or to help pay for gas if I can arrange car poolingish (overseas people, you can figure out how much money you need >_>)
2- who would be willing to drive themselves and other people to a TSC Convention
3 - who has a location where this could be hosted
4 - not really much hopes for this one, but does anyone have extra money lying around to sponsor people who don't have money~
5 - you want to come and could work it out with parents/schedule, but just don't have money

As in, the main advantages I see to hosting the convention here at our house is that we would have room (albeit it would be packed if lots of people came) for people to stay, thus people wouldnt have to pay for hotels. I could pick everyone up and drop everyone off at the airport, thus no cars would need to be rented, and if everyone just wanted to pitch in a bit for groceries, I could cook food for us all.

But...if people are better able to travel somewhere else, then me and Rolken can go wherever.

Also if you don't want to respond to the topic, you can PM me details or whatever. I just more want to get an idea of if there is enough genuine interest and motivation in a TSC Convention to go through the effort of trying to make it happen.

I'd come if I could. But I can't. There's probably very few people who actually can (these being the adults of TSC, and the ones with a reasonable amount of cash on their hands). So basically no one.

I definitely want to come over, but if you are holding at your house. I would have to go to Utah all the way from PA.

2. I don't know how much dough I willl have by next January.

3. How will I convince my mom or dad to take me to the airport.

4. If I have a good job by summer, then I can have enough money to get groceries at the stores in Utah. But seeing how all these negatives add up, I mayn't be able to come T_T. But I would like to meet all of ya! I only know SonicFan and Groudon (SonicFan told me about him).

So where else would we do this? Skylights seeing how you are a billionaire or sumthing, buy us a private hotel with about 100 rooms available for all who is coming, and a Casino that allows people under 21 to play, an indoor swimming pool w/ High boards to dive in for all you crazy divers, or just main diving boards that are only about a few inches high from the water., a jacuzzi for 16, exercise room, pool tables, a bowling alley,
Sonic Center Arcade Room with every single Sonic, Mario, and Megaman games made on them, and the rest for the Tails Center for the Hacked games, and flash. With plenty of cars for everyone to drive if some people want to have a gang drive (this I heard of just about several months ago). Room Service for everyone. Unlimited Calling and Texting areas.
Ultra-High Speed Computer Lounge
And anything more that I can't think of now

As if I'd ever voluntarily fly to the USA lol :(

If you make on in the United Kingdom in summer, I might try though. if I manage to defeat my fear of being on a plane and a long way from home.
Seeing as the 3-4 hour car ride to the Netherlands is already stressing me every year!

I can go wherever the convention might be held at; I just need to know the exact dates well in advance so I can take time off work/buy plane tickets (unless it would be held somewhere like Orlando in which case I could drive and also possibly abandon you all and go to Disneyland/Universal Studios/somewhere else instead yeaaa).

Also as far as people who can donate monies to other people, surely SJ has some seeing as how he lives in a gigantic mansion...

I'm up for organising a summer jaunt for the Eurotypes if people want - I've run similar meeting-internets-only-friends events for my cult (long story) before so I know the ropes.  Thoughts?

Title: Re: TSC Convention
Post by: flyby on January 28, 2009, 05:00:38 pm
Ok, Aitamen brought up in his topic about the convention, what will we be doing?

I have no idea, and I do not plan on planning that aspect of things. I mean, I will work with someone else (I am assuming probably mike and/or doug and/or someone else? iono whoever wants to) on getting things planned for this event, but I don't really care what we do. I am here to take care of logistics like making sure we have the televisions and systems needed to play whatever we are doing, and getting people there, and making sure they are fed and have places to sleep.

Also, SonicAD mentioned being able to borrow his grandma's RV and roadtripping it to the marathon. Anyone else have access to and RV from another location. Because that would be pro.

Also I am still waiting for mikke to get into this topic and say something. So mike, say something. >_> I am working on stirring the troops, but I need help!

Also allow me to state, you can all save money by not buying lots of games! *flyby shot*

So I'm gonna make a list of confirmed people coming to this:

Me
Rolken
mike (i assume?)
douglas
magnum sounds pretty sure

Also mike give us a better idea of the time you will be here, so we can have a narrower view of when this might be able to happen. That is all for now. Keep signing up to come!

I've got spare money, but not enough to get over to Utah. If I could get my parents to pay for the plane trip, I could pitch in for the groceries. If I do go, hope you're cooking's good, I'm an excellent eater.

If I don't show up, then yeah. I'm assuming it will be some time convenient for everyone (no school time whatever summer etc.)

However, I would love to go. It'd show my dedication to TSC, I guess.

Edit: Sondow I am a minor and there is a very good chance I may go. >:(

I would like to ask whether or not anyone has any allergies or phobias for us to be aware of... I'd hate for someone to have a petrifying fear of dogs only to have someone else bring their cuddle-wuddlekins along...

that being said, though I have asthma, I don't have anything that would be affected by outside things, though I would be unable to participate in anything that required physical activities of any kind...

Maryland would be better since it's closer to me, but I don't care either way.  I'll save up by then.
Title: Re: TSC Convention
Post by: flyby on January 29, 2009, 04:16:58 am
Ok, I have more thoughts. Basically, in Maryland, I could fit probably 10 max, and that would be pushing it (included me and Rolken). And it seems that we may have more people than that interested in coming, so I am thinking that that may not be the best idea.

As for timing, I am thinking sometime after Christmas in December 2009/beginning of January 2010. People who are in school and have school to get back to (and who are potentially coming), let me know the last day of your break (I'll account for travel time in figuring out dates for the convention), so we could see how far into January we might be able to do this.

I should edit this back into the top post, and maybe I will later, but here it is for now. Here is a list of people who are confirmed to come:

mike89 (though I am still waiting for a response to this topic >:O! - should remove this since he repied...I'll leave it )
Rolken
flyby
douglas
Zeph
F-man
SJ

And people who potentially can come:

SonicAD
Upth
magnum
DsS
Spinny
Kitsune
Iceman
genus

People who less than potentially, but would like to come:

Alondite
Aitamen
Donna

Actually, I think I will make a seperate topic to discuss what activities should be done at the convention. This is more to organize logistical stuff, and figure out how to make it available for coming to. I think that's all for now, though. I am leaning towards Utah as a final location. I just don't think the location in Maryland would be as suitable for hosting such a large gathering :(.

Also still open for other possible locations for hosting. I'm just going forward with these locations as I know they are available and can be used. So that's all for now. Further posts to come. Keep updating me with plans!

If it's in january, I 100% can't unless I flunk out of my program at college (sorry guys, no). I might be able to do late december, but I have no idea what my money will look like then.
Title: Re: TSC Convention
Post by: Eis Makai on January 29, 2009, 11:23:49 am
I'd really love to go! I could indeed do so! But unless I have enouf greens and metal I'll have my mom or dad drive me to an airport, fly to Utah, maybe we then could participate in American Idol (LOL! I'd love to see anyone on TSC going to American Idol and trying to sing. That's a good idea! Hey guys! Why don't we make a new topic called Post your Singing Talent! And I don't mean Rock Band,  mean singing solo with no instrumental help (you can clap, snap fingers, tap feet). And post it up on the forums and we see how good you can sing (Maybe one of us would pull a Simon Cowell or Randy Jackson or Paula Abdul, or Kara) is that a good idea or what? there in Utah when they go again (which won't be until the week before the super bowl unless they go earlier.) this might be fun.

So I can conclude now that I may be able to come, but I'll confirm later in the year.

Ok...for everyone who has some semi-chance of coming to this convention (whether previously stated or not), I would like the following information:

1 - how soon after Christmas you would be available for the convention
2 - how late into January you would be available for the convention
3 - what gaming systems you may be able to bring with you +games
4 - do you have a laptop you would be bringing with you
5 - do you have any dietary restrictions

I may add more to this list, but that is all for now

1. Hell if I know. Depends on family shenanigans, which are never confirmed until less than a week before they happen.

2. Hell if I know. Depends on my job situation.

3. The Genesis and GameCube are my only easy-access ones, as the PS2's shared. May or may not be able to bring.

4. I have a craptop that I won't bring because it's utter shit.

5. I'm on a see-food diet.

5. I'm on a see-food diet.

i.e., you see food, you eat it?

ditto for me, if that's the case...

If I'm able to come, I'll be bringing PS2S, GC, XBLOCK, GEN, SNES, N64, and perhaps my PC >_>

no, not kidding... but I'd need some place to set up my PC if we're going to lan party...

I would kill for some sweet Hexen-based shenanigans...

As far as everything else, I won't know a thing until my job gets finalized...

1 - how soon after Christmas you would be available for the convention

January 3rd (I always spend Hogmanay - that's New Year's Eve for you non-Scots - in Scotland).

2 - how late into January you would be available for the convention

Whenever.

3 - what gaming systems you may be able to bring with you +games

Uh, my DS?  Can't really bring the PS3 on a transatlantic flight :)

4 - do you have a laptop you would be bringing with you

Probably.

5 - do you have any dietary restrictions

I have a fibre intolerance, which should be fine but means stupid things like I have to eat white bread instead of brown.  Also eating fish is morally wrong >_>

1-2. Probably depends on the timing of MAGfest next year (since I want to go to that too), but I don't think time will be much of a concern.

3. Same as douglas - DS only.

4. Yes - I actually bought an adapter to fit my power cord into a US powerpoint about six months ago in preparation for going over there -this year-... which of course never happened.

5. I don't eat food that tastes crap.
Title: Re: TSC Convention
Post by: F-Man on January 30, 2009, 04:54:08 am
1&2 - Who knows if I decide to go back to college by then. We'll have to see.
3 - PS3: Resident Evil Director's Cut, Klonoa 1 and 2, Sonic Riders ZG (eeermh not sure), STH, Ratchet & Clank 1 and F:ToD, Mega Man Anniversary. Dreamcast: all the Sonics, some illegal Resident Evil copies, Ecco DotF
4 - Sure, I can also bring HDMI and S-Video+RCA audio cables along. Also I have GameTap.
5 - No but I don't like a shitload of food. I guess I'll try eating anything that's available just this once in my lifetime but don't feel offended if I don't hide my grimaces too well. >_>

1 and 2: I really do not know
3: My DS
4: No I don't have a laptop
5: None really, I don't like certain foods (sauerkraut, mashed potato without good gravy or pepper, i am slowly disliking hotdogs for some reason)

1/2: I'll know more about this in a few months.
3: My Wii and DS, along with games for those systems.
4: Yeah, sure, I'll probably bring my lappy.
5: I have good taste, so food's an issue here. I don't eat any meat other than chicken, and I don't like dairy. Mind, I can always eat things elsewhere without feeling excluded in the normal.

I am quite a good cook and can probably work to a variety of tastes, if we're not eating take-out, and if whoever's hosting has a kitchen I could use...

hell, I could probably bring along my own spice-rack and the like...

Hmm... I wonder if I could create a dish for each group coming?

3 - my Ds (which is mostly broken heh) Xbox 360 (maybe) and Sonic unleashed

With a bus it would take maybe 5-7 nights to get there non-stop. But Buses do stop (on account of gas, food, r and r) so 10 nights it would take on bus. about 8 hours on plane. You can't reach there by boat so don't try being a Chris Columbus to get there. 4 hours with a jet car or less hours.

1 - how soon after Christmas you would be available for the convention
I can leave no earlier than 12/26, but screw anyone who thinks they can hold me up on my birthday

2 - how late into January you would be available for the convention
I MUST be home by January 3. See why I'm fairly sure I can't come?

3 - what gaming systems you may be able to bring with you +games
Well, I have two gamecubes, but only enough cords for one and only two controllers. I have a GCN-GBA connector somewhere around here and a GBA to match. I also have a DS Lite. For games, I own a crapton of Sonic games for the GCN, I think everything except Riders. Also Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon Box. Box FTW. For my GBA all I have of note are some pokemon titles, and for my Lite I have Pokemon Pearl, Sonic Chronicles, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness, and Brain Age.

4 - do you have a laptop you would be bringing with you
By then? I might just.

5 - do you have any dietary restrictions
I'm mildly lactose intolerant. I can have any dairy in a small enough quantity, but my total consumption can't have more lactose than half a glass of milk--and the more I approach that, the less comfortable everyone around me is. Since cheese has very little lactose, I can have a decent amount of pizza without a problem (but I HATE cheese), but I can't have milk-based deserts for most part, can't drink milk except for a tiny bit, can't have really milky mashed potatoes, can't have yogurt or frozen yogurt. Due to the way ice cream is made I seem to be okay with a decent amount as long as it's not cheap ice cream. Also, whey protein for the win.

I generally don't like anything though, and don't really eat vegetables (except for carrots!<3). Also I won't eat seafood. I have some kind of primal gut instinct capital NOOO reaction whenever I do. I also refuse to eat anything made from the digestive system or brains of an animal (tongue, ripe, head cheese, etc).

I understand that my dietary restrictions are effing crazy, and would like to point out that I have no qualms with subsisting on fast food for this convention on the tiny off chance I can afford to go. Please do not plan around me unless for some reason you really want my opinion on a dish or something.

I don't have money or transport, unless I magically land a job (and soon, it seems, I'll really need to)... but if I'm able to go, I'm totally willing!

Also, since I'm in Denver, if anyone happens to be driving through with a 64, I hereby challenge any and all passerbys to a duel to the GAME SET in SSB, if I'm unable to go >_>

So THAT'S why cheese doesn't bother me, but icecream melts my tongue...  I'd no idea!

Lactose intolerance has nothing to do with taste or anything; it's purely digestive. If something causes other symptoms it's not lactose intolerance, and may be an allergy. Also, if you react to things that have traces of milk in them regardless of their sugaryness (say, having similar reactions to cheese and milk), it's probably an allergy.

Further, most sweet milk products (yogurt, frozen yogurt, soft serve, but it seems not so much regular ice cream) are sweetened with milk solids, which are almost all lactose instead of other sugars. So they cause me more problems than milk itself does. I've actually become violently ill from drinking a quantity of yogurt that, had it been milk, would have done little more than make me gassy.

Also, I second this job business. I has no moneyz.

No, not the taste at all... if I eat ice cream or drink milk or something like that, it actually damages my tongue.  It's like I'm eating acid, honestly...  it also messes with my guts, of course, but because my stomach has been in pain for the past three months or so (lack of food), it's significantly less noticeable, except for perhaps bad gas from time to time (after milk products)

stupid economic decline...

I'm totally making a Robotnik easter-ish egg at some point.

Also, thanks to everyone who offered support about the general lack of food...  You guys are amazing.

I'm ok, and I'm surviving, so please don't worry too much.  Hopper's job finally paid off everything he owed, and in a couple weeks, it'll be back to normal... he got laid off and we had ot sac food money to pay bills, so we all just ate less...

Reading some of the things (and replying to them) actually made me cry happy tears...  AIM/MSN/YIM, my e-mail, chatPM and TSCPM... everywhere I looked, people were making sure I was ok...

Gamers are awesome.

Ok. So, with Mike's recent departure, I have been reconsidering the timing of the convention. The main reason for having it in the winter was so he could come. He said he would still probably come, since it was not the purpose for his trip, but I question the idea of planning the convention around someone who does not care that much, when if it were timed differently, we could potentially get many more people able to come.

So I am considering instead of January 2010, sometime in the summer of 2010? I am still up for January if people would prefer that, but am thinking that summer may be a better time all around. Just looking for thoughts on this, and really if anyone is against the change. I was thinking we could maybe even do it around Sonic's birthday :O.

There are lots of advantages to having the convention in the summer, but if there are reasons that people think January would be preferable, I would like to hear those too, so we can have all views before making a final decision.

Well since the convention has been moved to next summer, it looks very likely I can go to it. I didn't post in here before because I wasn't sure about coming due to money issues and then Rolken left for a while so I wasn't sure this convention was still happening or not. However, since it is then yeah I'll come.

I will have plenty of time to save money and I don't think time would be an issue. Also since I'm only 5 foot tall I don't think you'll have a problem with space XD.

The only problem I have is when I get to America, I wouldn't know what to do then because this will be the first time I set foot abroad on my own. So yeah little bit nervous about that especially with my AS, I can get confused easily :S but yeah I'd love to go :D

Ok, so the timing is getting pretty fixed for next summer, looking to be probably right around the end of June, beginning/middle of July. Want to know what people's timelines are like, and probably avoid the 4th, because even though I wouldn't really mind having it over the 4th, I am sure it would make it harder for at least one person to go, so either want to do it before or after that. Also with it being in the summer, I am not really concerned about space at all. People can camp out in our backyard, etc if we have tons of people.

So yeah, give me any conflicts, to see if we can find any dates with no conflicts, and what dates would work for people, and remind me again if you are definitely coming, a probably, or a maybe with your dates. Thanks! :D

Oh that's awesome news. That's like... right when my holidays are :D

I think uni holidays are late June to late July - I'll come back later with exact dates. I get not wanting to have anything on the 4th of July, but rest assured I know a few people who I'd love to spend a 4th of July with. X)

So er, if it's in July, pencil me in. June would be tricky because I wouldn't be able to commit until my exam timetable for that semester came out... which is far from ideal.

Convention is still on, though it looks like Rolken will not be in attendance. We are getting closer to times, so let's nail down some dates. So I'm looking more for availability, if you're free any time I will do it, that would be nice to know, otherwise, I would like to be able to narrow it down a bit. Also Spinny I assume that means that the first week of August is a -bad- time? Though if it's your only vacation time for the summer, it may not be entirely relevant.

I should be available anytime during the summer except the July 4th weekend. For now I have another week of vacation somewhere, but union BS might get in the way of that. If the morons vote to open our contract now instead of in August when it's supposed to, the rumor is that we might lose a week of vacation. So yeah.

And yeah, I'm not going from Provo to Indy in the same week, especially when my intent was to drive to Indy. >_>

Yeah I won't be there at that time, but I've got plans with a few mates to head overseas at the end of the year. That'll be anywhere between mid-November and early February. Right now it's a toss up between Japan and California, if it ends up being the latter I'll hit ya up across in Utah Fleebee, and whoever else is around the place too. That's assuming you're around, if not, if you could just leave a bowl of soup and some letters to post out the front of your house that would be great. Lol.

I've pretty much given up on the idea of the convention, since it sounds like we'd have a whole 2 people showing up. If that is an inaccurate perception, please disabuse me of it (tell me you are definitely coming <_<).

I'm still willing to host a convention, whenever people would want one. I just probably won't be the one pushing for it, but so long as I have a location that would accommodate it, I'd be willing to host people and do the food.
