In Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic and Tails take the Emeralds from Fang who has rightfully found them.
I do not remember any talk of him using some illegal methods to get them, or any evil intentions (apart from simple greed) in either the manual or the game (which has no dialogue anyway). Ergo them taking his Emeralds is not justifiable and simple robbery.

2. I also thought his intent was to sell them to the black market, which would have been a BAD IDEA.
3. If stealing them from Fang is wrong, so would stealing them from Eggman be, and that's happened in quite a few games by now too.

1. Cite your source. The story only says "Robotnik had the Emeralds, made a mistake and BOOM and now they're all over the world and everyone wants them!!"
2. WELL WHAT DO YOU THINK DOES SONIC DO AFTER YOU WATCH THE CREDITS OF EVERY SONIC GAME (except for Sonic 2 after which he keeps the Emeralds as seen in Sonic 3's intro)

err... on topic... Even if Fang wants the Emeralds for a lesser evil (i.e. money), that still doesn't mean that the good guys are going to just let him do that simply because he stopped the greater evil (i.e. Eggman). Logic plz.

Anybody who'd want to buy the Chaos Emeralds probably wants to do something not good with them anyway.

THE MANUAL IIRC STATED THAT FANG LIKES MONEY, GEMS, AND BEAUTIFUL WOMEN
IF HE LIKES GEMS MAYBE HE PLANNED ON KEEPING THE EMERALDS AND PUTTING THEM ON A BOARD AS A TROPHY OR SOMETHING
OR HE WANTED TO WOO A GIRL WITH THEM - SONIC HAS GOTTEN IN THE WAY OF LOVE BY STEALING THEM!

A few reasons:
a) He was not the main character.
b) He's a weasel.
c) VIDEOGAME.

Sonic the Hedgehog is no dirty thief because he helps knuckles protect the Chaos Emeralds from Dr Eggman the real dirty thief of planet mobius.
