Even though that's a blurry image, I can tell that that's some nice spritework in those videos magnum. I'ma see if I can nab some of those sprites and take a look at the style more closely. Though, it'll be hard considering it's a PS2 game...

Odin Sphere's graphics aren't done pixel-by-pixel, they're painted. And the animation is done in a jointed fashion (with static graphics connected to each other and moving separately around hinges) rather than frame-by-frame, so I really wouldn't class them as sprites.

Hinges?  You mean like how some of Eggyolk's contraptions work?  They'd still be classified as sprites, even though they're much more complex and work slightly differently

/me goes to look up on sprites a bit

Okay, so technically they are sprites (defining sprites simply as 2D graphics in games). However, in terms of the discussion at hand in this topic, which specifically deals with the generation and not animation of images, and specifically the creation of such images in a pixel-by-pixel fashion, they're not really relevant.

Though it would be pretty awesome to see something that detailed done in pixel art AND animated.

Well nowadays it seems you can just create artwork and use that itself as a sprite with no loss or no significant loss in quality.

That's the future of 2D graphics isn't it? Ideally you would create 2D graphics the same way as making a cartoon.

Pixel-by-pixel probably isn't practical anymore when resolution is so high.

Well except for handheld/mobile games and rom hacks.

Anyway what I don't like about the pyramid is that it's so 2-dimensional. Shouldn't the top of the pyramid appear smaller? I guess what I'm saying is, I don't see what purpose that sprite could have. (maybe it can be applied via an inventive use of cutscenes in a Sonic hack?) Well other than showing it off and your skills. And sheer patience. In which case yea, very nice man.

I can imagine a few ways he could do that. But in any case, I think he should make new character sprites next!

Yeah, IIRC, the graphics in Odin Sphere and eventually Street Fighter 4 are hi-res. I could just imagine what a Sonic or Mega Man game would look like in hi-res.
