Title: Anyone up for a Time Attack Duel?
Post by: yse on June 19, 2007, 09:59:36 am
One of the things that RPG requested of me after I retired was that I compete in a duel with him. We have tried this on Sonic 1 (typically our most evenly-matched game) many times before but he invariably fucks up at Marble XD.

To give this one a sense of finality, we've decided to make this one on Sonic 1, 2, 3&K in succession. Then Douglas and Thorn wanted in so I decided to just open the door to anyone who wants to compete. Rules are simple: Complete S1-K with Sonic, first to post all three input files in this topic wins!

The toughest part of this is going to be finding a suitable time for everyone to play. What with the Carcassonne tournament running as well and conflicting schedules and timezones... Suggestions here plz. Also post here if you want to compete AGAINST THE VERY BEST :O.

Need I remind you of the run you game over'd in Green Hill 2? :P

I would compete, but I'll be 10 minutes ahead of everyone by sonic 3, then 25 minutes behind before sonic and knuckles :-P. Seriously I don't know any of the routes hardly at all for s3k :-(.

And really, you should just declare the winner based on the total time for all 3 games (real time). It seems kind of dumb that, for example, I have a good enough computer to run 3 instances of gens, so I can immediately start recording after I finish one game, then my internet connection is really good so I can upload and post very fast.

To verify, you're right Stanski.  However, if we define start and end points properly we can have the race LIVE, which means chatroom excitingness :D

Sounds like a plan. Anyways, if it takes long enough to get this organized, I may be able to learn the s3k routes at least decent enough so that if I garner enough of a lead at the beginning, I may actually have a chance.

I would do it, but...

1) Sonic 1 isn't my best game. I could compete in Sonic 2 until Wing Fortress. For some reason S3 evades me. S&K I'm a little better. (I used to have the Mushroom Hill 2 Knuckles record, you know. Before sonicam took it away from me>=(. And then mike and eredani from him.)

2) I don't even have a day off WORK until... a week from Saturday, when I'm spending the day at my cousin's because it's her graduation party. And then I work again. That and my online times are occasionally sporadic considering my schedule.

Well the key consideration for me is that douglas is gone for the whole of July, so I was hoping to do this before then, but that basically leaves tomorrow or next Saturday at a stretch. Not a great scenario.

So either we start looking at August dates, or we just ignore douglas and do this anyway >_>

Well i'm out of this for sure. I took 10 deaths and 2 hours to complete s3k. God I'm bad.

Eh? I'm assuming you mean you need to unzip some .rar files.

I'd recommend this instead: http://www.izarc.org/

It recognizes about every zip format in existence, and it's free.

If you guys want to go ahead without me that's cool - I'll be difficult even before I go, what with having to graduate and getting stuffs together for the trip.  I'd imagine if it's successful there'll be another one :)

I'll pass.  Let me know when it's RA time.
Oh, and Judgement?  Try 7-Zip.  That's what I use for all my Frets on Fire stuff, because the archives store them all as .rar's.
