Title: Toulouse (Carcassonne) Tournament
Post by: Rolken on June 16, 2007, 06:21:25 pm
Time for FUN and GAMES! Toulouse is a game of tile laying, in which you take turns drawing tiles with different combinations of cities, roads and pastures on the sides and play them in the field to get points and WIN. The game's over when all the tiles are laid.

~Base Info~

The Game (http://games.asobrain.com/play2/toulouse/playnorank.php) (registration required, it only wants a user/pass)
The Rules (http://games.asobrain.com/faq/rules.php?gameID=2)

~Tourney Structure~

We're doing round robin: everybody plays each other according to the matchup list, and is ranked first by wins, then second places, and finally top score in a tourney game. The championship match will be a 3 person match among the leaders in which the victor must win twice.

~Particulars~

Scheduling matches is up to you. There's no particular match order, so play with whoever you can find. Once we get down to the last few unplayed matches, I'll set a date to finish the rest (probably a week in the future). and then the championship will be arranged. Ties will be scored appropriately as either 1-1-3 or 1-2-2. We're playing with all expansions on, unless everyone in a match can agree on playing with less.

If two competitors are having trouble getting in touch with the third, contact me and he'll probably get third by default. If you schedule a specific time and somebody fails to show up without notice, just play without him after a reasonable amount of leeway time (at least 10-15 minutes) if you don't feel gracious enough to reschedule. If TWO people fail to show up, then they can do a match for second place at some later time.

If somebody's having connection issues, do not play tiles and force a bot to take his turns until he's had a reasonable length of time to try to get his issues worked out. If he continues to have severe problems, it's at your discretion as to whether to allow him the option of a rematch or just let the bot's playing stand (and if he thinks he's got the game in the bag even as a bot, he can opt not to take a rematch).

I think we're all sensible enough folks so hopefully most of this won't be an issue, but it's best to not permit drama the option of arising. Let me know if you think of something I haven't and happy toulousing!

edit: matchup post folded in.

I'll join.

Probably best time for me to play is at night between 10:30pm and midnight, mountain time. I like the idea of round robin. I could also play during the day before 3:30.

I'm in. My schedule is going to be crazy variable on account of now having a casual job but we'll see how things go.

Count me in.

I have exams until the 28th June so my willingness to play might be erratic.

Until then, count me in at like... 7-10pm BST most nights. Daytimes are possible, but I tend to get more revision in those times. Plus that is when exams will happen. Basically, I have no strict timetable, so I can adapt a little.

From 28th June to 20th July I am free all the time. That is, I will be frequently going out and stuff but not to a timetable. UK afternoons are good (between morning lie in and evening out in town <_<).

20th to 30th July I am in France so can't play.

From then I am free til September. XD

This all could vary if I get a job, which I hope to.

Round robin plz.

kthxbye

Right, I'm in.
Also this is, like, the eight time in the past 2 days that I've opened up the TSC page to post this precise.

Okay, so long as the last player isn't Violet.

Consider:

Quote from: Rolken
Code: [Select]
RPG    mike89   [9]

And I will not tolerate losing to RPG X)

Okay time to start organising match times then.

PPA/Waxwings: ...This isn't going to be fun. Perhaps really late my time, which is a reasonable German hour and an early American hour might suffice, but... yeah.
Rolk/Upthorn: whenever X)
flyby/CF: CF isn't in that often these days but I'm sure we'll get something to work. Late for me works for CF but not so much for flyby. I might have a busy night >_>
RPG/Sondow: RPG will fuck up his sleep pattern to get this match going so I have nothing to worry about. Early evening for Sondow is probably best.

itt start negotiating with other people to find good times or something.

Dat's all I'm saying

Game 1: mike89 vs flyby vs CF

Having to play matches at 2am is no fun. For srs.

Basically as usual I tried to take control of the main pasture, however CF put paid to that with his BIG MANS. I countered by matching him and flyby put her BIG MANS down too. (In retrospect I should've beaten CF outright rather than matching him.) Despite my playing of the pig I could not secure the land for myself and was soundly thrashed by resources.

flyby - 161
CF - 134
mike89 - 111

GG both of you.

RPG - 225
mike89 - 166
Sondow - 128

Another one of those crappy games where I failed to secure the main pasture just when I really needed to. It was worth 48 so it wasn't quite decisive but a bit better luck with resources would've changed that too.

Note also that this result is NOT OFFICIAL as Sondow had to leave for the last 30 or so tiles and I'm waiting on a rule clarification to that effect.

If it was connection hax, you and RPG have the option of offering him a rematch. If it was "ok bye" hax, then... er... I say his bad. But there we go.

ok bye hax I do believe
Title: Re: Toulouse (Carcassonne) Tournament
Post by: yse on June 29, 2007, 01:10:03 am
mike89 - 148
Rolken - 119
Upthorn - 110

I survive in the tournament!

To be fair I got a couple of lucky piece draws. A tile with three separate cities to hold off Upthorn, and a city/road tile equivalent to the starting tile to finish a large city of mine being the notable ones. I played some of the pastures badly, and others really well. Rolken seemed rusty and we already knew Upthorn sucked.

Time to update the table!

lies. I was FORCED off. Would you people like me to be unable to come on TSC for roughly a month because of my parents disconnecting my comp?

There's the reason for my "ok bye". I had to go watch a movie with my parents or my comp would go bye-bye.

mike89 - 148
Achlys - 134
PPA - 108

This being by far my worst game and still winning says a bit for my opposition. >_> To be fair PPA had a headache by the looks of it.

I held a massive pasture and a massive res lead the whole game so I felt pretty much unassailable. However with about ten tiles to go, and me holding a 3-2 lead over PPA, Achlys makes a move on it! It now stands at 3-2-2 and slightly vulnerable. Achlys makes a last-ditch play for it with six tiles to go.

Now he needs to draw a tile with two pastures that share a corner. And his tile is...

...monastery-road. FUCK!

Luckily I was still close enough to run over the top of him with my huge res lead.

Yeah, I had to leave for a couple of turns. My back hurt, my head did as well and I felt miserable in general. Could be my cold, or that I just sat in front of the computer for too long. :(
