This topic is a combination of a large amount of SA2 challenges. I cannot update this all, so I ask for help from any person who has power in this forum. Many of these challenges have separate topics, but it is hard to get enough interest. If we combine all challenges, then this topic will hopefully not become inactive. The records I am posting are copied from the original topic list, and they may not be fully updated.

Minimal A
Beat a mission as quickly as possible while pressing A as little as possible! Fewer A presses takes priority over a shorter time; e.g. completion of a mission with 0 A presses and a time of 1:30.00 beats completion of a level with 2 A presses and a time of 1:15.00. Your rank upon completion of the mission does not matter.

some you can copy over, like metal harbor M3 since it gives an A rank by default unless your ridiculously slow,and green hill since it's all about speed / 0presses and getting a C rank.

Anyway I got this today: Metal harbor(M2) 40.99 with 0 presses. Used the 30 second strategy here, under 40 is probably possible.

also, since this is a challenge topic after all I have a CE challenge for everyone: Get a perfect bonus on CE1. I can't pull it off but I know it's possible, and isn't out of the way or anything so it could help alot during a score attack for someone who can figure it out!

The original fast death topic only allowed hard mode in Wild Canyon.  Since this one lets hard mode be used in any stage, a few more can improve.

That isn't a very meaningful challenge, as the level layout is completely irrelevant.  You always end up doing the exact same thing, and it's not particularly challenging to reach perfection (which is 1.60 on the first life of a run, and 0.02 for all subsequent lives) once you know when the timer starts.

Green Hill is definitely the easiest 0.

On the subject of low scores, I have a new one.  Thanks to well-played enemy manipulation, and the hover jump, Hidden Base drops from 460 all the way to 40.

I got 440 rings on city escape(GC) in 2:32, it was easy once you do the beginning right

I know SM can beat this though, its easy when you get the beginning right.

How about a new category? "Start to 1-up" - Start the level, and get to a 1-up item box as fast as you can.  Pause the game, and count your time.  Only 1-ups from tangible item boxes or balloons can be used here; lives by other means (such as rings or, if you're really desperate, small animals) aren't usable, nor are life icons randomly dug up from the ground.  Because pause timing has some variance to it (and because this should be about the 1-up, not the pause) I suggest that all times here be rounded down to the nearest second.  Makes for better "Join the [X] club" possibilities too.  Every stage except Route 101, Route 280, and Green Hill (which have no 1-up boxes) will work--and yes, City Escape gets a big GC advantage.

lol WTF SM? patience and anger management to the max there. I think I tried that on a couple sonic levels without such luck =/

heres something for ya all to toy with..


beat city escape mission 3 as fast as possible, but you gotta have 999 rings before your allowed to touch the chao. I clocked in at 5:59.xx, just barely getting sub 6 =) I forgot exactly how I did it but I think its like, go through twice and get atleast 400-ish rings each time, then manage to get 999 somewhere around the building descent and go for the chao.

I tried this on some other levels like metal harbor but I got extremely bored at around 300 rings and quit, definitely not a good level level for it.

Metal harbor only takes 3 a button presses now (a jump dash and two "get off of a pulley"s). I don't think it can go lower than this.

Thusly, Metal Harbor mission 1 in 1:56.12 with 3 a button presses.

Actually, i got a couple new shortcuts in..  so it's now 1:41.92 with 3 a button presses.

mha2 in 45.35 with 2 a presses.
mha3 can be done in 1 but it requires a nice variation on an sba.

EDIT:

so I was wrong about ancient light, so it goes to 2 a presses on gc.
anyway:

mha1 2 a presses: 1:44.75
mha2 0 a press: 41.90
mha3 no presses: 57.44 (this is annoying)

Thought I'd do some, but I'm getting a little tired of these life things.

PH~ :02 [That iron bar is messed up or something, everytime I dove onto it, I would slide off...]

PC~ :10 [I use this level to collect lives in, so this was easy]

I also did City Escape with zero A presses and Metal Harbor with two A presses, but not good times.

Well it looks fun and the city escape and metal harbour ones have been things i have been trying out myself. I doubt anything good will happen.. But it will put fun back into it for me i guess :(

Well, it's been over a year since the last post. However, that doesn't mean this has been inactive; I know at least SM and I have periodically been doing some of these challenges and updating the first post since then. For example, if you look at Fast Death I have nearly all of them (and vidded half of them), which wasn't the case back in April of last year. I've also worked on Mission 2 low As and Fast Lifes.

Also I italicized the rules (while leaving the descriptions in normal text) to create a consistent format.

Hey, FKE, I was about to make a post here myself; we need more people doing these challenges! soniccoloursunleashed, don't get discouraged by FKE's post; yes, thread necromancy is a sin, etc. etc., but competition is still encouraged, even if unofficial.

EDIT: Also maybe PM a mod or prominent member before making a post in an inactive topic like this next time?

Actually since SDM hasn't been around for about three weeks now, it's looking possible that the Emerald Challenges won't be updated untill he comes back or whatever, you guys know as much as me >_>. However, maybe it won't be such a bad idea to start another challenge, the Emerald Challenges did generate quite a bit of interest.
