You need:
-at least 1 enemy
-a checkpoint that's near an extra life icon
-a place to die
Steps:
1. hit checkpoint
2. hit enemy for points
3. hit extra life
4. die
5. repeat steps 2-4 indefinitely and scalp the game for all it's worth.
In Sonic 3, it's even easier:
1. Get to Launch Base Zone
2. Stand over the first alarm
3. Charge up a spindash
4. Just hold Down for 10 minutes, and never release the spindash until you die by Time Over.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until you max out the counter at 9999990.

But you dont get it. Were each putting in $20 for whoever wins, so if I knew all possible ways of just purely raping them I would be in the money. :)
Well Sonic 3 is the obvious one. Problem is, if you don't play last, you're sort of screwed because everyone will just copy your strat.
I'll give you a couple of good point-scalping locations:
Sonic 1: Marble 2 - you can easily pick up about 30000 points from the green bricks near the end of the level, and there's a life in a secret room (check our maps).
Sonic 2: Even better than using levels on this is to continually go into special stages, get to the last section of the level and don't get enough rings to complete it. The closer you get to the target, the better.
S&K: Even better. You can pick up all the rings in the special stage and still die - that'll give you a 50k Perfect bonus every time.

I probably wouldn't get it via PayPal, I've never used it.
