Title: How is the "top" player determined?
Post by: sonicam on March 06, 2006, 09:08:38 pm
I was wondering how the "top" player on a chart with multiple ties is determined. When I look at charts like Egg Quarters Mission 1 Rings, Green Hill 1 Times/Rings, Final Zone, etc... and other charts that have multiple ties. I was wondering how the top player of the chart is determined. I've thought it was the first player to achieve the record, but that's not the case. Then I thought it was piled up by who last submitted that record, but that's not the case. Then I thought it was by member numbers, but I don't think that's the case. Can someone shed some light on this? It's been bugging me for a while.

Y'know, it had me confused for a while too... and then the answer came to me.

Does it really matter?

It's completely arbitrary.

If you really want to make a deal of it, it's technically done by the one who submitted it first. After all, they're the first ones to get that record and all the others just matched theirs.

^^But they dont necessarilly stay in the order submitted, with the 1st person to get the stat at the top :P

It wouldn't be fair if it was ranked by who got it first. Especially for rings and stuff. It's not because you got it first that you're the best, and think about those who aren't even registered yet and all.

I was actually tempted at one point to explicitly make it random on each page load.

Um, actually, that would be pretty fair... If that person was the first person to be able to obtain every ring in the stage, I don't see why that person shouldn't be recognized for that, so that person should be at the top. If a person has been registered yet, well, that really can't be helped. There are probably a lot of people out there that haven't joined TSC yet that might have pwnage records for the games here. Not being here yet really isn't an excuse.
