Title: Sonic Olympics - NOT YET FINALISED
Post by: yse on October 29, 2005, 09:04:09 am
There's only two weeks until the events begin, so you'd better get your event fast!

Remember, we can have between five and ten entrants.

SONIC 2
Emerald Hill 2P: SM
Casino Night 2P: SM
Mystic Cave 2P:
Marathon: mike89

SONIC 3[/u]
GP mode: FoxLuc
Death Egg:

SONIC 1
Scrap Brain: Cybrax

GAME GEAR
Sonic 1 - Green Hill: Sprint
Sonic 2 - Underground: Sprint

MISCELLANEOUS
Project Shadow 2 Demo: Rolken

Post here and stake your claim for your chosen bracket (first come first served basis is just silly, it'll have to be done on merit). Hopefully we'll assemble the best possible team for this challenge.

Latest update: sonicam declares unavailability. Hurry up guys!

RPG nominated for one of the Sonic 2 levels, and Rolken gets Project Shadow 2 because he knows the levels. :o

As previously stated, I'd do Death Egg, but he'd have to change the day or something because I'll be at work at the time they're doing it D:

I'd also have to practice because I'm still green on DE2. Though I could probably devise a strat by looking at the map.

Though, as I said, it probably won't happen.

Isn't Death Egg in Sonic and Knuckles?

Also, I'd do Death Egg or Scrap Brain since mike wanted me to do it cuz this is taking place in New York and surprise, surprise, I live in New York where the server is. I just wanted to know, is Scrap Brain 1-3 and Death Egg 1-2 accounted for in the repective divisions, or is it just the first Act?

I'm pretty sure it's the entire zone soniham.

Actually, I'm 100% sure.
Quote
The player who accomplishes all acts of the zone with the fastest time will be the obvious winner.
Yeah.

As mentioned, I'd do DE myself had I the time. I should stop repeating myself. (Though that goes against the current IRC topic o:)

I tried NetPlay a while ago and it asploded my PC and my Internet connection went loopy for 15 minutes.

I might have to pull out of the Live TA Events D:

Unless Zizou makes some unsucky rules where all events are recorded, despite the fact I dont think he can read this X)

So is this all set then?

You guys should start those recordings soon. Especially mikey. Don't wanna save it for the last minute now...do you?

Granted, we'll probably win, but some of the communities are really preparing.

It's sort of like the turtle and the rabbit. That rabbit was like "zomg i'm so good I'll sleep" and then the turtle won :(

Don't wanna let our gaurd down, even if they look easy.

Ninty we are missing Death Egg, which I would take except for the fact that I'm inconsistent (not to mention the fact that I'm still green in act 2) and it conflicts with my schedule.

I mentioned to Mike that Dreadknux is having his own puter problems, but I don't know how that would affect his S2 marathon run. And, of course, all the talk is that TSF will have their arses scraped off the sidewalk.

Also, mike mentioned that he wasn't going to submit it till almost the deadline because he doesn't want people copying his vid D:

Are those the only games open for entrants?  I might consider Sonic Triple Trouble/Chaos.

Post by: Taco on November 05, 2005, 09:43:32 am
It's only the gensesis games, and the master system games made as a GBA hack for some reason :/

If you're any good at Death Egg, then you're more then welcome to join in on the fun!

But before you do, you'll have to submit to me an entrance fee of $50 :D

EDIT: Actually, I wouldn't mind helping out. I mean, I could just practice death egg over and over again. Not only would I have trouble connecting online, but I won't even be hear for a good majority of the tournament. I'll be in New York :o

Maybe I can see soniham or something though.

Do the olympics take place live, or are they submitted recordings?  And where can I get software for such an event?
Title: Sonic Olympics - NOT YET FINALISED
Post by: Taco on November 05, 2005, 07:21:20 pm
Well as said, the only opening left is Death Egg Zone (Acts 1 and 2). I believe it's a live time attack, meaning you play online, but someone is watching and evaluating your performance. It's only based on time I assume

what about Sonic 2 player. Did Zizou say it was just based on time? or the way that the game determines the winner? If it's option 2, then you guys might wanna practice up a bit more....you know...get used to where all the powerups and rings and stuff are.

Nah, scratch me doing Death Egg 1 and 2. The boss in Act 1 is too fucking annoying. I can't stand him and I think if I defeated the ass-hole, I would have gotten 3:10-3:30. The stage itself isn't too bad, just that stupid ass boss.

Also, Ninty, perhaps. :o Are you going to NY state or are you going in the city?

I assumed it was the latter, but on reading the SO rundown again, it appears to be the former, which makes the whole thing even more lame than it was before, because now we're introducing totally unnecessary lag just so competitors can be TAing at the same time.

in 7/10 events, your main opponent is lack of keyframes. Freakin ridiculous.

edit: never mind, I am the dumb! I was reading the netplay TA rules.
Title: Sonic Olympics - NOT YET FINALISED

Considering switching SM over from Emerald Hill to Mystic Cave, as having him on MC would free up EH, which I'm sure more people would prefer to play than MC.

And we still need someone to TA Death Egg... I'm just going to give it to the next person who offers, as all the top DE players are out of contention for various reasons.
Title: Sonic Olympics - NOT YET FINALISED
Post by: CosmicFalcon on November 06, 2005, 05:25:07 am
Can't you give SM all the Sonic 2 netplay events, if he wants them? As the minimum is 5 players, but also with some of us only taking one event, I don't see why someone can't take three.
Title: Sonic Olympics - NOT YET FINALISED
Post by: yse on November 06, 2005, 05:51:09 am
I figured with five being the minimum amount of players that two was an implied limit for one player. I'll have to check on that, though.

By which I mean, I'll get Rolk or Sprint to chase it up.

Hehe, anyway, well, sure, see if you can get a copy of your schedule then I might be able to see who the hell you are too. :D

Also mikey, if you can, please give me hints on how to defeat that god forsaken boss in Act 1. I've TAed the stage but the boss is just too much for ol soniham. D: and I haven't even started TAing Act 2.

After the egg thingies drop, double jump (you best still have the lightning shield D:) and bounce on top of the ... eye... thingy. While also dodging spikes. Whee!

Then when it's in laser mode just keep hitting it, recollecting rings when you need to.

Also please do Death Egg, because I was foolish enough to offer to do it if no one else would. And I can do with enough humiliation from one event!

Also do we know that we're limited to two events per person?

[10:34:42] Rolken: frankly I think mike's being a little overzealous in assigning people around without asking them ^^;
[10:34:54] Sprint: indeed
[10:35:01] ARRPEEGEE: heh
[10:35:25] Sprint: i've got almost perfect runs on both GG games

;x

It seems fairer to let people speedrun what they want rather than assign them stuff to keep within a 2 event limit. :/

Yay! FoxLuc, we got this in the bag now.

I think SM made like strats and shit for the sonic 2, 2P levels so talk to him, but i think fox will be better on scrap brain or GP

I think we'll do OK. I'm not bothered about winning, but taking part. But having said that, I have Fastfeet who's Sonic 2 Versus king, and you have me doing the Marathon. So... I'd say our chances are quite alright. =)

I guess you can temporarily put me down for Death Egg. The first Act is actually fun, but the boss makes it so much worse and I still haven't done Act 2, so if I can't get near the record in Act 2, the take me off.

You chose where it goes. :o Depending on your operating system and Internet Browser, there is a different window that should appear to initiate download. Click the link and it should open a download window and you should accept the download and chose where it goes. For easy access post-download, save it to the Desktop and when it's finished downloading, go to the Desktop and double click it. It's a RAR file so you'll also need WinRAR, find that at www.download.com and search WinRAR. Download the Free Trail Version and then you'll be able to extract the file SM provided you. After you download the file SM gave you, right click it and chose extract files and it should be automatically sent to the Desktop and voila, there are your files. :o
