Title: Sonic Battle ROM
Post by: sonicam on December 13, 2005, 10:10:12 pm
I've been looking for a Sonic Battle ROM since I've broken my Sonic Battle cart a few months back, around the time that TSC got reinstated so I've been unable to restore my post downtime records. I wanted to get a Sonic Battle ROM to play the game again and to try to reclaim my scores that were lost. If anyone has a SB ROM, please let me know and if you could send it to me, I'd be much obliged, or if you know where to get one that's functional, the same. I've checked many sites and nothing. I've even checked SonicStuff and the ROMs seem to be defective as the WinRAR files become corrupt when trying to download them. So, anyone know of where to get an SB ROM? Thanx.

I was actually just playing that today for the first time in about a year. In about six minutes after this post time it'll be here (http://rolken.soniccenter.org/files/Sonic%20Battle%20(U).gba).

Agh, this is too damn hard to play on a keyboard. >=(

Trust me, fighting games in general (unless you have a good joystick) don't work on key boards (just imagine trying to play a theoretical PC version of Street Fighter without a joy stick), which is why I don't use ROMS for games. With keyboards, the least clumsy genre is 2d RPGs. I don't even want to think about how hard it would be to play MMZ on a keyboard.

Yeah. If VBA supports a PC controller I may buy one, but looking though the menus I'd think that's a no. Rolk, what EMU do you use and do you use a PC controller?

I've played MMZ on a keyboard, no problem at all. Actually there are great vids made using VBA for Speed runs. :o

I use VBA. I have a game controller (though I didn't use it on Battle specifically, as I tend to not mind keyboards); mine's a Logitech Rumblepad, and has a very nice configuration system where you can set up different keys to correspond to different buttonpresses for each program (and auto-switches based on the active window) even if that program doesn't support pads explicitly.

I got the biggest kick out of browsing in Firefox with the thing...

Actually Sonicam, since you owned it I don't think it's illegal. I had a sonic battle cart that I let my freind borrow and I haven't seen him since so I downloaded a gba emulator and a sonic battle rom. That's all I downloaded for my gba emulator.

I use boycott advance since virtual boy advance ran slow on my computer and The default controls work good for me. Here they are: up is up arrow key, down is down arrow key, left is left arrow key, right is right arrow key, b is x key, a is z key, L is a key, r is s key, start is enter key, and select is backspace. Maybe switching the keyboard controls to that will help you.

If I remember it right, it's legal to make ROMs, but downloading or uploading ROMs is illegal.
The 24-hour and the "if you already own it" ideas are wrong.

Nintendo's site has some information on this.

Whether it's bad or not probably depends on if you're making the company lose money.

No, I heard that making emulators are legal, but the use of ROMs after the 24 hour period is illegal, but meh. I don't really know the ruling, nor do I care, my game's broke and can't particularly buy another one at the time, so ROM was my next bet.

I saw one for $5 used at GameStop and was dumb enough not to pick it up.

But yeah, the 24 hour thing is bogus.

The real question when it comes to the legality of ROMs is whether or not I care.

Oh snap.

The 24-hour thing is just a disclaimer people can put on their site to make their ROM sections 'legal'. Everyone does it because everyone else does it, rather than reading up on the law and making a proper disclaimer. Whether or not it was ever based on any law, I dunno. But I guess most people see it, don't bother to think about it, and just think "oh must be legal then."

Roms are your best bet, but yet, i've been doing emulation for a few years now..... I've made quite of a collection. If it's roms you want go to www.romreactor.net They have most  the roms you want execpt a few.... Or if you want roms up to the N64 go to www.edgeemulation.com Those are your best bets for roms if don't have what your looking for then just search for it.
